great review but i would rather buy a imac for the price of this a few hundred more and you got all the benefits plus the screen yes it is nice and yes i want one NOW but alot of money for a screen
I think that the monitor is absolutely beautiful and it makes great companion with macbook/ pro but the problem is that its a bit over priced. I know that the reason that its expensive is because of the LED which is a relatively new technology and it going to be a while until it comes down. But regardless you can buy a 24 inch screen for about 60-70 percent less.
You admit that it uses new and expensive technology, but you still call it "overpriced"? And the old saying is very true when it comes to displays: you get what you pay for. You can get screens for very little money, but those cheap screen are built like cheap screens and they have crappy panels (and no LED-backlight).
I looks awesome dont get me wrong, but even with LED I dont think its quite worth the 899. The only reason i would buy it would be for the style. But if I had 899 dollars to spare I would buy it. But it would hunt me forever knowing I could have done so much more with that money. That almost another macbook!
This is just a guess, but the display probably only costs 300 or 400 dollars to make each one, maybe even less. However, it's a very worthwhile purchase for users of the new MacBook family. Very handy.
Can this be used with the Macbook Pro Penryn model that came out last april? it was the model just before the glass screens were added, it has multi touch gestures.
You can use this with the previous generation macbook. I have a 2.4 gig 13.3 and it has all those ports. I do believe there were 2 versions of the macbook before the glass screen ones.
You cannot use this with the previous generation MacBook because it has a Mini-DVI video output while the new monitor uses the MiniDisplayPort that's only found on the newest Macs.
i have a question: For the Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display,it always says that i will go perfectly with your new mac book pro, air...... but will it also work for the old mac book the 13inch one?
no..it doesn't work with the older macbooks because of the new mini display connection but I pretty sure that in the future apple is going to be selling an adapter for the older generation macbooks and macbook pro's
In the U.S. the price comes out to be about 899.00. Which I think is way too much. Why spend that much on a display when you can put about 300.00 dollars more to it and have an iMac for your home use.
If you own a expensive mac, then you better have a better video

what shitty editing! And you ever consider a LIGHTBULB or two?? I could sell you some WHITE-BALANCE also... cheap.
And they probably STILL call themselves "Pros" all day long...

notisrhcp 2 years ago
@notisrhcp but is less compared to keep buying a new imac, you just save some bucks for some years buying that gorgeous screen :D

Are you constantly only peering out of one eye when you are using that screen? I mean, your left eye looks like it's covered permanently by the hair.

download an app called insomnia or caffeen it makes our computer not go into sleep mode when you close the lid.
efil4obel 2 years ago
put it in desktop mode, you shouldn't need an extra app to download from what I understand.
pcrox200 2 years ago
in preferences you can set the mice and keyboard to wake the macbook (pro) up when it's sleeping, you will not need any other software.

what is the USB cable used for? Does it carry the audio for the LED Cinema Display?

usb is a hub built on the screen and it carries audio, mic, and isight t the monitor

oooooo ok. Thanks I always thought that the video and audio was carried through the mini display port but thanks for correcting me!

Hate the new hardware designs, but that wont put me off OSX, still love it even if it was running from a tacky biege plastic tower.
