  • i have hair that is nothing like yours but you have so much advice...love you girl!

  • Wow! I love your tutorials! I can't wait to try this out!

  • I love your vids! You're right patience and a good brush is needed, I did the page boy hairstyle on me and a friend and when I started brushing out the curls I panicked cause it got so big!! But the trick is just keep brushing and be patient :)

  • nice vids, but please remove the annoying guitar-sounds

  • Thank you!

  • what song is going in the background?? :) it's cool so are you!!

  • Wow i love it!! I'm going to try it out. Thank you! And the curls look wonderful on you :)

  • sweet

  • it looks really pretty, and I just love your style. but do you know if you can do this with long hair?

  • you remind me of anne hathaway in the film becoming jane, pretty x

  • I got a question,

can you do this hairdo with curly hair?

(I already have curly hair, but it's diffucult to do these curls)

    help? :)

  • Its not typically called a double cut, I'm a stylist and its commonly if not always referred to as an undercut

  • This is the best tutorial I've seen for pincurls. I actually have some in my hair right now ;3

  • This is really pretty ! Hey, can you tell me were you shop at? Because that shirt is really cute? It would mean alot to me, Thanx (:

  • This is AWESOME!! what do I do if I have super long hair? (like right below my bust)

  • My uncle just happend to send me a photo of my grandmother when she was 18 - with your hair in this video, you look exactly like her :) Sooo need to try this out. Is there a way to get the curl like that without doing the pin curls overnight?

  • Were you like ignoring your kid ?

  • those curls look really pretty i cant wait to take my bobby pins out in the morning!

  • @kennedykatastrophy

Oh my god, me too, their in right now. So amped !

  • fantastic!!!! I am so happy you made these videos, I'm an actress and love doing my hair myself, I also have a fetish for late 1800 to early 1900 era hair, do you have some more ideas how t make some more hairstyles from that time Again thank you for the great tutorial they really help.

  • fantastic!!!! I am so happy you made these videos, I'm an actress and love doing my hair myself, I also have a fetish for late 1800 to early 1900 era hair, do you have some more ideas how t make some more hairstyles from that time Again thank you for the great tutorial they really help.

  • How did you learn these techniques? Who taught you? How inspiring!

  • @FourEyedLadyOriginal Awe, thank you so much! I've learned what I know from vintage hair guides, online tutorials and simple experimenting... but I really do have so much more still to learn, so your comment is so encouraging :))

  • @StrawberryKoiVintage Hi there I just wanted to thank you for your awesome tutorials. i have curly hair that is nice the first day i wash it, but sleeping on it is another story. i wake up with a mexi-fro (I am latin) and the ends of my hair FRIZZ like crazy. So i used your tutorial and pin-curled my hair at night with a little wax and put a bandanna to keep the hair in place while i slept. In the morning PERFECT FRIZZ-LESS CURLS!!

    THANK YOU!! <3 XOXO =-)

  • This video was awesome! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I do have a question though. Does the curl brush have to be heated? Or can it just be a regular one?

  • @peeptoedpump I don't use a heated one, so I think it's fine :)

  • I absolutely adore the shirt you're wearing in this video.

  • thank you so much, what a nice video!, you're really pretty

would you recommend to do this every night?

  • I have naturally curly hair. I get these messy "banana-like" curls as my hair dries if I wear it down. It pretty much always does what it wants. I've never heard of this "double-cut" you mentioned. I grew up with my dad, so I'm really a tomboy (trying to grow out of that!). I've never known much about how to take care of my hair, and never found a cut that works. Can you tell me more about this style?

BTW, I love your channel. It's very helpful and adorable. :)

  • This is so helpful, thanks so much!

  • thank you!

  • @strawberrykoivintage excuse me, but would it cause any damage to the hair to sleep in pin curls nightly? (i'm PHOBIC about damage to my hair. don't even know why LOL!) p.s. i loveloveLOVE all your videos!!!!! PLEASE don't ever take them down or stop posting!!! they're ALWAYS a huge help!!!

  • @Babyfromnewjersey Awe, thank you love! I'll get some new vidz up ASAP, I am just having a little technical problems in the mean time :)

I don't believe sleeping in them every night will cause any significant damage... because it's a very gentle process. And I personally have never notice damage from it... But, you'll notice beginning signs of damage before there's any real damage, in which case you would give it a break :)

  • I tried pincurls for the first time last night, but when I woke up I wasnt sure how to brush it out. Thank you for this video! It was very helpful :D

  • I didn't have a round brush, but I found it works out just fine if you brush it the same way (and with the same patience) as the flat brush. Thank you for helping me learn how to style pin-curled hair! I had no idea what to do before, so when I asked for help with it, I never liked it because whoever helped often made it just poof, and I like it to still look kind of curly and not just poofy. I appreciate the help and I love your videos. Keep it up. :)

  • I just have to say i love your videos!! They're so helpful. I've wanted to do vintage hairstyles for years, but i never knew how to! Thank you so much for the videos!! :]

  • @amilosovich Awe, thank you so much! I'm so happy that you have been enjoying them :))

  • I think you could have brushed them out a bit better on the bottom and sculptured them. . its a bit tricky with shorter hair.

  • @frescodecacao I think I got them the way I wanted them... maybe more "sculpted" is just your preference :)

  • u look very beautiful and natural, not like other bitches in youtube

    nice hairstyle!

  • AWESOME !!

  • you're really pretty.

    i love your videos.

  • @TicTacMakeup Awe, thank you! I am Japanese and German by ethnicity, American by Nationality :)

If you use the scarf, blow drying it will probably make your head really hot but not effect the curls :(

  • thanks for the vids! theyre fab!

i have a question though, do you (or anyone) know how to really straight hair to keep curls? my hair is REALLY straight and even if i set my pin curls damp and with a tiny, tiny amount of gell the curls and volume drops out after about 2 hours...

    XX

  • @liraelsmogget I actually have naturally very straight hair, with no wave or curl at all! There are a number of things that could be contributing to your problem. 1) Too much product. Product has as much ability to ruin your do as it does hold it! Try it with out product to see if that's the issue (if you haven't already). 2) Humidity. Humidity destroys anyone's curls, no matter how well they were set.. if that's the case, you can really do much to change the weather :(

  • @liraelsmogget

If that doesn't help, and it really is your hair texture causing the issue, you might have to compensate and choose hairstyles in which it's ok if the curls are more relaxed... it sticks a little, but you can still create gorgeous vintage-inspired hair styles without tight curls :)

  • @liraelsmogget just a suggestion cuz i have really straight hair to. I always curl my hair when it's barely wet at all because the wetness can actually pull your hair down. When it's still wet i use Tresemme Curl Hydration Lotion Cream and then i let my hair air dry for a while so that it's just slightly damp. Then i run a tiny amount of pomade through the hair before setting each curl. Doing this i can keep my curls for two days usually. Hope that helps!

  • Thanks so much for this video! I really appreciate all your helpful tips! :)

  • She is a skilled presenter, seems like a natural, unaffected ability

  • @smashzen Thank you for your sweet comments :))

  • I set my pin curls when they are damp and I sleep on them but when I take the pins out in the morning, usually one side of my head (the side I slept on) the curls are a lot tighter compared to the other side, and more notably the back. Is there anyway to make my curls all even? Don't worry if you don't know, its just a bit annoying when I want to style my hair.

  • @199219931996 hmmm.... it might be the cut of your hair? If you are setting you hair evenly around your head, then it must be something out of your control. The cut of your hair can do this, if it's much longer in back then it will hang longer just the same when it is curled. When I did this video, I had a very even cut all over just so I could curl it... it's not as pretty when it's straight, but it makes for perfect curls :)

  • how long does it take you to curl your whole head?

  • @cloudapple It depends on how large I make the pin curls, but on average about 20 minutes :)

  • Do you have to leave the curls in overnight? Or just long enough to dry? I'm sure you probably already answered that.. but I don't think I heard you say it. Oh and do they need to air dry? Or could you speed the process up by blow drying it a little bit?

  • @nellyroxhard You don't *have* to put them overnight, but it does make the curls stronger and more even - but the important aspect is to just wait for them to dry (even if it's in only 20 mins time, if they are dry they will curl!) As for a blow dryer, it helps but it's difficult to get the heat down into the base of the curl... I would only do it under dire circumstances :) Thank you love!

  • This tutorial is so helpful. In a month or so I'm donating my uber-long hair (down to the small of my back) to Locks of Love and the first thing I'm doing with my shorter hair is pin-curls! Thanks for creating some great videos.

  • sooooo freaking cute! and just what i was looking for!

  • Great! Thank you for watching :))

  • lol @ the fisrt video, i tried 1 pincurl, because i only had 2 bobbypins, but it waz pretty easy! me, myself, i love raw curls, where you just comb your fingers through, instead of using a brush. But it looks alot more hollywood-ish when you brush it. this is so awesome!!!!!

  • I'm IN LOVE with this look!

  • This hairstyle looks so beautiful on you... I have to try this out. My hair is just so dead straight, it's so hard for me to curl!

  • Love it!

  • This looks so nice on you! I was going to ask you about my hair, it is very frizzy and curly, but someone already asked you, so I read your comment.x

  • Ugh, thanks so much for the tip on making the peekaboo bang. My hair keeps falling flat and I didn't know how to set it.

  • so if i have horribly frizzy curly hair.. is this impossible for me to do? would straightening it first, then pincurling work out?

  • I would probably straighten my hair first, if I were you... just slightly, enough to take out the extreme curls. After you style the hair, make sure to use some anti-frizz serum to smooth everything down and take out any further frizziness :)

  • @withaspanner what you can do is blowdry your hair straight using a roundbrush (yes, itll look like a monster!) with some sort of serum in it, then get your hair damp again. on me, at least, my hair wont spring back into curls if i do it this way. good luck!

  • A weird suggestion, but so as we can see the back of your head could you do a demo with a mirror behind you? Angling it so we can see the reflection but not necessarily the camera?

  • Haha "what are you still doing here?" so cute!

  • Hi im a guy i use the matrix hair spray smells great

  • hey! Thanks for all your videos :-] But...how do you do to fix the curls when you brush it!! it doesn't work with my hair! it's curly but when I brush my hair it falls :-( anyway, all your style(hair &clothes) is so pretty :-) everybogy here like it when I brush my hair in the 50's style! (something really unusual in France...)

  • Omg i really like the first and second part :P

well right now im actually having my hair all done and going to sleep to see whats the result tomorrow morning (i have really and i mean REALLY long hair - its almost at the level of my back) , but well i was wondering if it's really neccesary the first brush you used? i dont have it =( and i really dont think i can go out like this (omg next time im gonna see what i need before i start something XD), thank you some much i really love your video~

  • Oh, good luck! I bet you'll look gorgeous :) As for the brush, any brush will do really :))

  • Hey StrawberryKoiVintage I P.M you with more info and some pictures of my hair :) thank you for your response so far - awesome videos you have great tips and all. Take care. x x

  • how long does it usualy take you to do pin curls? (as someone who has done it many times :)

  • I wont lie, it usually takes me a half an hour! I've heard of many people doing it under 10 minutes, so I guess I am slow, haha :P

  • Hello me again - maybe I need layers in my hair or something, I have similar hair texture to you however its very long..... :/ Something must work for me to make them last longer....

    e. x

  • (answer part 1) How long are your curls lasting? And how are you setting your hair exactly? There is a variety of reasons that could be causing the problem:

    1. Maybe you are setting your hair too dry? This is OK, but wont make the hold as strong - damp is best.

    2. Maybe you are setting your hair in too large of curls? This would keep the curls from being as "tight" and also weaken the curls.

    3. Better product. You want something with a thick, sticky texture instead of this and wet.

  • (answer part 2) Layers can help... but they can also make setting a SERIOUS challenge. I've set my hair with layered and un-layered hairstyles, and I definitely prefer setting without layers (although it can have nice results)

I hope that helps, I know very long hair is quite heavy... so I am sure that is a contributing factor. Let me know, I hope my tips came of some use :)

  • AMAZING - any advice on how to make this curl last longer please - products etc?

I love this way of curling and it looks great on you :)

    e. x

  • i love your blouse. where did you find it?

  • It's an Anthropology blouse, it's out of stock now but you can find them sometimes on eBay :)

  • That looks so so cute brushed out! ^_^

  • Thanks! :D

  • I don't just make these things up, I study legitimate (vintage) diagrams and instructions which teach beginners how to do these specific hairstyles. Whether they are considered "wrong" by your "school", I do not know, but that doesn't mean they will be considered wrong by other standards. Besides that, your comment in really uncalled for.

  • Your comment is rude, and un-educated. Cosmo/beauty school just trains you to pass your psi exams, not for the real world. You'll find that there are many ways to do one type of style. Her way is not wrong in anyway, it works, and thats what it is supposed to do. Also, strawberry I love all your videos, I love vintage hairstyles, that is all I practiced in beauty school. Your very good at mastering the styles. I recommend doing a skip wave though, where your bangs fall. You might like it more.

  • I never noticed this comment before, but I wanted to give you a deep thank you from the bottom of my heart :)

  • @misslldoll Whos comment was rude and uneducated

  • Lol.. "What are you still doin here?"

  • I love your shirt :] Your videos are awesome

  • oh what a cute bouncy look :) thank you

  • Aww! Are you on lookbook? I think I watch you! Your vintage style is amazingly cute. Anyway, this is the exact hair style I've been wanting to try! But I have no idea if it will suit me. Well, we'll see. Thanks for being so informative :)

  • nice, looks great

  • Love that it's quite natural and gives a great look. Gonna try it out tomorrow since I'm kinda busy tonight. But thanks alot

  • youre videos are the best! thanks so much!!!! its excactly what ive been looking for! how do you learn all this it seems to come so easy and naturally to you!

  • Awe, thank you! I actually just do a lot of (internet) research and practice in front of a mirror and on my husband's head, haha :)

  • Wow, that's so pretty! I can't wait to try this!

  • Good luck!! :D

  • I feel like whenever I try to brush out my curls, they go straight again!

But maybe I'll try and get a round little brush like the one you've got. :] Thanks for posting!

  • NO, I AM JAPANESE AND GERMAN

    :)

  • Wow, I can't believe that people ask you about your heritage. That is so rude, but I must say that you handle it well.

  • Awe, thank you :) Sometimes I must admit it gets to me a little :)

  • REALLY? YOU ARE GORGEUS!

  • Awe, thank you... I've gotten weird comments on youtube lately, so you really made my night :)

  • It's a pretty mix.

  • HA. I loved the "what are you still doing here" LOL soo cute. :D Ima try this.. My hair is reall thick and I have ALOT ALOT of hair.. :(

  • Heehee, thanks! And good luck!! I have very thick hair too, so I just have to be careful not to set my hair too wet or in too large of curls :)

  • Beautiful hair! Gorgeous curls! May I suggest trying a pick on your do, rather than a brush? Gently pick & fluff your curls. Picks are either metal-prong type or plastic prongs; each type creates different curls. Your thick hair will have tons of volume. Have fun!

  • Thank you, though I did suggest "finger" brushing as well, which is along the same lines :)

  • Oh dear... You are just too cute! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I'm going to go buy some bobby-pins tomorrow and try this!

  • ahhhhhhh your so pretty:D

i love all of your videos hehe

  • Awe, thank you so much =^_^= That really does mean so much to me, and boosts my confidence!

    Thank you everyone! :)

  • very cool..u rock! thank u :)

  • Thanks so much! I tried this and it worked :)

  • do you know if old fashion brushes with real brissels are good for brushing out curls? instead of a "modern" brush

  • Hm, that is a very interesting question... I have never used an old fashioned brush, but as long as the bristles aren't soft and spaced at a decent distance... it would be perfect ^_^

  • I love your blue dress! Where did you get it?

  • The one at the beginning graphic? At modcloth(.com) :)

  • Thanks!

  • even though you dont have the regular style and hair i really really like it, its vintage! haha <3 5 star

  • Thank you! :)

  • what store do you recommend to get (cloth)vintage/pin up girl look

  • Online stores (ebay, etsy, "stop staring") would be your best bet.... otherwise, H&M and Forever21 :)

  • You look soo pleasant to the eyes!

Please, tells us if you wear any makeup or you are just naturally pretty like that?

  • lol, well I almost always wear a little eyeliner and mascara :) Other than those two things, I really have a hard time wearing makeup... it seems I always smudge it and look silly! lol

  • i love it!!!

hahaha i like the ending :P

  • Thanks for the tips.

  • Thanks for this video, I needed help with brushing out curls! Sounds like your baby is trying to steal the limelight.. Cute!

  • Thank you for this video I also needed help with brushing out the curls :)

  • Thank you as well!! :)

  • Brushing! That's the step I needed! I always end up with ugly hair when I take my pins out and end up throwing it in a ponytail in frustration. (My mom always told me to never brush out curls.)

    Success will be had!

  • That's wonderful! I really hope this video helps you out. Your mother is right to some degree, brushing out curls does have the ability to destroy them... that's why I do it slowly and gently with a brush that has wide bristles/teeth ^_^ Good luck, dear!

  • Gorgeous Dahling!!

  • Thank you, love :)

  • Thanks! I was having an aweful time w/my pincurls...(now, what are they again??) hehe ^-^

Either way, you're beautiful Aya!! Keep up the great work!

  • HAHA, thanks Joe! I need to start making videos more entertaining for the guys, don't I? ;)

  • HAHA! No worries, Aya...you're entertaining to me just being on! :)

  • hehe, but I know I speak for all men Aya...we would not object to you doing anything specificly to entertain us men! *grins* ^_^ ;-)

  • So I did pincurls for the first time today (because I LOVE hairstyles you can get with them) and I left them in for the majority of the day.

Unfortunately, I didn't take into consideration that I have enourmously thick and curly hair so... haha yea mine is pretty poofy. Oh well, I'll try again some other time.

BTW, you have amazing videos I really love them. I love vintage stuff soooo much so these are all incredibly helpful. Keep up the good work. :)

  • Thank you so much, dear!

Too bad it didn't work out :( It;s sad, I'd take your hair anytime! I have a weakness for big curly hair. The bigger, the better... haha! Try again, I'm sure practice will help ^_^

  • Haha thats what most people say, that they would take my hair anytime. I do like it, it can just be a hassle sometimes. I'm sure I will do this a bunch more times over the summer and I am definitely going to try out all of your other hair tutorials. :)

  • XD the end was epic.

and in 5:21 ... was that a baby?

  • teehee, thanks :3

Ah yes, it was my son :) (who is almost 2)

  • Tehehe the very last part of the video was amusing! What're you still doing here? Haha

I like the haircut, it's very flattering on you. :) What does it look like straight?

  • Thank you ^_^

It looks rather like a long bob... it's pretty even all the way around, and it has some layering at the ends :)

  • Very pretty! thanks

  • yay!! :)

    I love your vidoes. :)

  • Thank you so so so much. I've pin curled my hair many times now, but every time i try to brush them out i look crazy. It tends to look better the second day lol...This helped a lot! I am thinking of getting my hair cut in "the middy" instead of mostly one layer that I have now, do you think this is a good choice? Your hair looks great in this video! What does it look like straight? I want my hair to still look fine straight as only curl my hair 50% of the time...thanks again!

  • Thank you, dear!! I think a middy cut is GREAT, and it was what I had just before I got my hair cut (well, it had grown out slightly)

The middy cut, if it is cut completely accurately, does look a wee bit strange worn straight. I would show the diagrams to your stylist, and say you want a "middy-inspired cut"... so it's a very similar length and shape, but still looks nice straight. I know the feeling, because I wear my hair straight half the time too :)

  • i have tried this, but it didn't turn out right. maybe i just have to try it again. your hair is gorgeous.

  • It's really hard ! I tried many times before having the result I want. Practice :)

  • is your hair layered??...thanks for the vid!!:)

  • Yes, when I got my hair cut I got some mild layers :) Thank you!

  • Your picture in the intro is gorgeous!! These were great brushing tricks, I'll definitely be using them! Danke : )

  • Bitte! ^_^

  • yeah i agree also. looks very professional.

  • Very nice. I don't have long enough hair to do that as of right now.

Also, what was all the noise in the background?

  • AHAH... um, that was my son -^.^-

  • thank youu x

  • Thank you!

  • Absolutely great, the end is really funny! Thank you very much for another great tutorial

  • Thank you ^_^

  • when i try to do it my curls dont bounce back up :( still pretty though

  • Hm, that is confusing :( Maybe you aren't letting your pin-curls set long enough....?

  • the ending is soo cute! ur very pretty!!

  • heehee, thank you! ^-^

  • Loved the end result. :) You remind me so much of Natalie Wood. Now I finally know how to brush them out properly. Thank you!!

  • Thank you so much ^_^
