  • wow, i remember seeing this in the mid 90s...seems like so long ago..i was too young to know what it was about, but even as a really young kid, it made me sad

  • My memory of this is that it had to do with weight because of the line 'he aint heavy' and the guy was skinny, lmfao.

Saddest commercial of the 90s, and with the added nostalgia now, s'a choker.

  • thought they were gay and buddy had aids or something

  • @dongdongvu1 not one bit funny .

  • the 90's were the greatest time to be a Kid I should Know I lived it

  • Wow haha I remember this, fucking DEPRESSING lol

  • MY CHILDHOOD!!!! i remember not knowing what it meant. all i knew is that it had a catchy tune and the guy was sniffing baby powder LOL

  • @somecan junk is heroin

  • Urge to do drugs achieved. Inhaling smoke... High achieved.

  • I promised myself if I ever became a drug addict, I'd arrange for my buddy to show up in a sports jacket with white sneakers and black tight as shit pants.

Then I'd have the charmingly surly black older nurse play this song on the boom box.

I'd make sure our hug only connects on the crucial moment when he's like HE'S MAH BRUTTHHHHAAAR

  • There's no other commercial I've ever seen, ever, that can make a grown man cry within 60 seconds.

This is better than a classic. It's a masterpiece.

  • This is very sad =(

  • this is the best psa ever made. Really makes you think

  • when i was a kid i thought this was about cancer...

  • i wonder where those dudes are now .....if ur reading this i love you dudes

  • i remember watching this commercial when i was a kid and making fun of it lol, i thought it was about aids too.. its like the guy below me said, say no to meth, crack and junk....... say yes to everything else IN MODERATION, there aren't any other bad drugs

  • Sigh.. i was only 1 or 2 when this came out. good times good times

  • this commercial + Requiem for a Dream = no urge to do drugs.

  • awww shit

  • say yes to marijuana, cocaine, and psychadelics

but say no to meth, heroin, and crack

  • say yes to marijuana, cocaine, and psychadelics

but say no to meth, heroin, and crack

  • when i first saw this i thought they were gay and one of them had aids or something, god bless those dudes

  • @dongdongvu1 lmao i was a kid and had no idea wtf this commercial was about, just thought it was some christian thing about brotherly love

  • Don't let my youtube name scare you, it's just an experiment to see if people judge a book by its cover.

Anyways my dad's lucky to be alive. I am lucky to have a dad. I am twenty years old right now and in my second year of university studying mathematics and economics. Life is hard, I fight with my dad all the time, i can see the damage heroin's done to him. He can be extremely unpleasant to be around. He's OD'd a few times, but I am lucky he can still pay my tuition.

  • when i was a younger kid (like 5)when they played this comercial, i always thought it was about a sick and dieing guy.

  • I remember seeing this when I was about 4. I never understood what was going on, but man that song always got to me.

  • There's two things I always thought when this commercial came on: it's very sad, and I want that bitchin' robe

  • Such memories. This commercial always scared me as a little kid. But I get such nostalgia watching it now. They just don't make them like this anymore.

  • DEFINITELY the greatest drug psa of all-time!

  • This commercial makes me think of my younger brother who is sadly suffering from a drug problem. This commercial makes me tear up big time.

  • I remember watching this when I was in grade one, right before Pokemon *season 1* came on, and I always had this not quite nostalgia towards it but a respectable kind of...I cant quite explain it but it touched me even when I was a kid, and it still does.

  • lol

  • Great song, and a great video! Best PSA ever!

  • He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother - The Hollies

  • they should make a slightly updated, more modern version of this and re-release it...

  • good song

  • Comment removed

  • This is the BEST CCA commercial ever.

  • This video makes me cry! awsome advert tho!

  • I swear every CCA commercial brings tears to my eyes.

  • @SummerofCycling Even the house hippo?

  • @CrazyForKate :) Ok, I probably exaggerated a bit! But, the majority are tear jerker's.

Wow, I posted that a year ago, time certainly does fly!

  • Oh my god, I remember this commercial. So good. It still pops in my head every once in a while.

  • i remember this from childhood. Like, way the hell back

  • anyone know the name of this song?

  • he ain't heavy, he's my brother-by the hollies

  • thank you

  • ur welcome!!

  • i like this one because it doesn't give any false presumptions, nor does it specify which drug. The guy could've been on anything, and yet at the end of it, his friend/brother was still there. Sappy, but effective.

  • I agree it has a great message, but I did see cocaine being snorted in the commercial so i assume that would be the drug in question.

  • is it weird I bawl my eyees out every time I watch this? i remember it from when i was little and the photos of them playing make me soooo sadddddd.

  • oh god. the nostalgia.

  • holyyy crapp i been looking for this commercial foreverrrr lol

only could remember little things about it...so glad i found it

  • I remember watching this at 4. I didn't understand the context, but the loneliness and the sorrow totally came through. Much more effective than "just say no".

  • Right, this is one of the few anti-drugs PSA I found kinda effective.

  • So many memories. It was my favorite commercial. It was effective, and the song powerful. I miss the when we had good quality commercials.

  • this fucking video makes me tear up every time.

  • @erikcashman I agree with ya it makes me think of my younger brother who is sadly suffering from a drug problem.

  • rehab bro is adorbs

  • This commercial made me cry (erm, it still does)...I had never heard the song before seeing this commercial, and years later, when I heard the song, I was all, 'Really? The drug-commercial song become a hit?!'

  • This commercial is actually how I became familiar with this song, years later it's still burned in my mind. Funny thing is, a friend of mine was doing heroin, a group of us who didn't do drugs knew about it, so we held an intervention. She's now clean, but still struggles to gain weight (she's under weight by 15 pounds. doesn't sound like much but if she became seriously ill, she'd have nothing to fall back on). Luckily, she didn't share needles. Gotta be thankful for that!

  • Shivers

  • Just great. Bring back memories. Just say no to drugs!

  • I love that song.

  • I didn't understand this at all as a kid, so I just thought he was pissed because he was stuck inside and couldn't go to camp with his bro.

    Seriously. Haha.

  • omg same. all I remember from the commercial is the striped housecoat he was wearing aha.

  • I don't know why, I thought it was an aids commerical when I was a kid.

  • I'm not alone! I thought that too.

  • This PSA single handedly prevented me from ever doing drugs.

  • or picking up crap off the ground and eating it

  • HE AINT HEAVY HE"S MY BROTHER classic

  • nice

  • havent seen this in years, but still brings back good memories.

  • Brings back a lot of memories. It still feels like I saw this only yesterday...but its really been 10 years...wow. It still sticks with me, just unforgettable.

  • lol "you may not succed but atleast you tried"

  • This one still gets to me. *sigh* It's been 20 years since I lost someone to drugs and to this day I still wish I'd been able to make him see he didn't need drugs to be "cool".

  • maybe show him this video i think its really powerful

  • I still remember this commercial so vividly after having not seen it in at least 10 years. I always thought of it whenever I heard the song "He ain't Heavy". Such a touching commercial, it really sticks with you.

  • I think this commercial confused as a child more then the why be you when I can be me commercial.

  • best video ever!

  • I never understood this add when I was a kid

;( but I liked it anyways

  • OMG, I found this video after all these years, this is the only thing to ever make me cry.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • this is by far one of the saddest psa's out there.

  • I haven't seen it for a long time and I think I just teared up a bit watching this again. Very sad indeed, but so well done.

  • i'm glad this video's on here

  • i remember this !! i been lookin for this video forever, it was probably one of the best of its time makes you think why the hell they stopped doing ain't drug commericals !! i never see them on tv anymore !!!

  • I remember this quite well. Very popular back in the mid 90's. I also recall another commercial where the father is standing at his son's grave, mourning his death from a drug overdose. Does anyone remember that one? Haven't seen it in years...

  • have no i want to see that commercial the one with the father is standing at his son's grave. But this is a totally sad commerical but it did kept me away from drugs

  • when i see videos like this i feel so old, cause they were on like 10 years ago

  • when I was a kid I thought this commercial was kind of scary because I didnt understand it I thought the one guy (drug addict) was a ghost who died off doing drugs and his brother was the only one who could see him its funny how a kids mind works..........

  • I remember seeing this commercial soo long ago and I had no idea what it was about.

    This is pretty sad.

  • lmao

this commercial reminds me of these 2 friends of mine!

  • This one makes me cry.

  • was this on YTV

  • awe

  • At 0:43 it looked like they were about to kiss.

  • accurate post

  • I really liked this video. It reminded me of an article I read on Gatehouse Academy's site. It's about how to choose a rehab. They work with young adults, so I guess that's why this commercial made me think of them.

  • BEST SONG AND PSA EVER

  • he is 'hawt'

  • by the way for proof he told us his 1 mistake = p pause near the part where its a bit spinign look at the sign on the door it says theatre not rehab. lol

  • LOL wow!

  • lol my sub teacher jeff morrison actually directed this. he used to be in media did comercials.

  • @magiclemonz What other commercials did he do?

  • I remember seeing this commercial when I was younger. Not sure if I know what the ad was about(I was about 6, 7 or 8 years old @ the time) But it would always get to me, touch me. The song fits the commercial/Ad & its beautiful. :)

  • i can remember seeing this one a lot when i was really young. it's fuuny how when you watch a commercial at 5-years-old, then again, 11 years later, truly getting the message. this was one of the one's that really stuck out in my mind. it's one of my favourites, probably because it doesn't scare the crap out of me.

    :)

  • exactly the same for me.. so weird... I have been lookin for this video forever.

  • I remember this one, when I was little I didn't understand it too much but wow I remember that being on tv xD

  • what song is being played

  • The Hollies - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. I was so frustrated not knowing what that song was when I was a kid.

  • me too!! i've honestly spent a good amount of my life looking for this song, and then looking for this commercial.

i JUST found out who sang it about five minutes ago, which sent me on a mad google search for this video. i'm so glad i found it now!!!!

this commercial has always and will always stick in my mind. it's so intensely beautiful.

  • Who Sings the Song in this Ad???? i want to d/load it

  • The Hollies -- He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

  • wow, exactly the same for me......

  • This is gotta be old when i was little i saw this and never understood it LOL

  • Me too - I thought it was about AIDs...or that was how I remembered it. Nice to watch it again.

  • Depressing, I would beat the living shit outta my friend if he was doing drugs !

  • This video is from the 90's...I don't know why its still not on

  • i remember this from when i was like, 3.

it always used to make me cry.

    : (

  • Why does everyone think this ad is so good? The message is just to help out someone who needs the help, but that's about it.

  • i didn't say it was good, i said i remembered it, and it made me cry.

when your 3 year old, you don't nessicarly understand this shit O_o

  • This, and many other OBVIOUS reasons have stopped me from wanting to ever do drugs. Marijauna isn't any better than any other drugs, and there are indeed facts proving this. Stating that marijauna is healthy is cliche bulls**t.

  • I agree. People who say MJ is healthy are just the idiots duped by their dealer and friends , creating a pyschological pillow for them to continue doing it.

  • Its not healthy, but its not too unhealthy.

  • oh how sad :)

  • fuck man made me cry

  • What is so great about this video? I don't get it.

  • You must be a robot without artistic or emotional add-on chips.

  • That was a reply to doorknob270 by the way.

  • Why? I just don't understand the point of this commercial and why everyone finds it so emotional. Please elaborate.

  • I suppose If you have had lots of(or maybe even a little) negative confrontation with drugs and alchohol, a person (like me) can definetly relate to this commercial. It's not just a regular commercial where they're trying to sell you shit and make money. They're putting it on television for YOUR sake. Think about that. :)

  • I think I get it now. The guy was leaving his room and going down the hallway to smoke crack. His brother who probably had been waiting for him for to go that way, stood there as a reminder not to do it. I wish you guys had just explained that to me.

  • thats not what happened.

the guy's in rehab, his friend/brother's comming to visit him. he's there for him.

  • you're an idiot

  • You are so fucking dumb JESUS SHITS

  • i saw this psa on a video for CCA commercials in grade five. it almost made me cry, i want them to show it on TV again

  • i cried when i first saw this, and i did again.

  • i love this commercial. Haven't seen it in awhile! Thank you for posting this up

  • this commercial brings back memories

  • I can remember watching this commercial when I was like 5. It's funny how as you get older, you get things eh?

  • Is that what rehab is like? Slippers and bathrobes ??

  • The ad says you don't grow up saying you will be a taking drugs and will take rehab. He just tried it and got addicted and it can happen. he wasn't talking drugs as a little kid, maybe as a older teen.

  • TV magic...I know someone who was addicted to drugs and they went in rehab and thank god it worked.

  • omg. this is... so... retro.

  • The Old Concerned Children's Advertisers commercials rock, if you could get the one with the Raccoon and the berries that would be sweet.

That is also one of the reasons I didn't do drugs.

Marijuana, though not as bad as Cocaine, is still a very bad drug. It is illegal for a reason, and does have horrific events such as the inability to convert short term memories to long term memories.

  • man... I would LOVE to find that one.

"nuh uh, those berries are not for raccoons."

  • I tried on the Concerned Children's Advertisers website, but it doesn't work.

  • you know the house hippo PSA? my Media Studies teacher in grade 12 was friends with the woman who made it

  • Nice. BTW, how did they make that one anyway? They just shrink actual footage of hippos?

  • no, actually those are actual house hippos you saw in the fottage. They just used motion detecting cameras and put them in different homes.

  • yeah, they had a problem when they brought the footage back though. they didnt have the bottoms of the hippos feet because of the grass surrounding them, and obviously there's no grass in someones house, so they got set behind schedual for a bit lol

  • coke is bad but pot is not. sad thing it is u never smoked pot because of this. i feel sorry for u

  • meh, it's all good *thumbs up*

  • Yes but what you said about marijuana can be said about alcohol and alcohol is legal. Pot being illegal is retarded. I don't endorse smoking pot but I also don't think it should be illegal.

  • CCA rules, and this comercial kept me off the smack. Thx for postin it.

  • you are quite welcome

  • *tear rushes down face*

  • Thanks you sooo much for posting this! This is my favorite commercial of all time! The song and the ad are so beautiful and sad. Thank you.

  • my pleasure :)

  • It doesn't say exactly what drugs he was taking, or how regularly. Or that taking drugs was his choice, probably.

  • he was snorting coke. they showed him doing it.

but that's not really the point of it. it's not "drugs are bad, dont do them", it's "be a friend, don't just let them kill themself. at the very least try". he's obviously got a serious problem since he's in a rehab center
