wow, i remember seeing this in the mid 90s...seems like so long ago..i was too young to know what it was about, but even as a really young kid, it made me sad
I promised myself if I ever became a drug addict, I'd arrange for my buddy to show up in a sports jacket with white sneakers and black tight as shit pants.
Then I'd have the charmingly surly black older nurse play this song on the boom box.
I'd make sure our hug only connects on the crucial moment when he's like HE'S MAH BRUTTHHHHAAAR
i remember watching this commercial when i was a kid and making fun of it lol, i thought it was about aids too.. its like the guy below me said, say no to meth, crack and junk....... say yes to everything else IN MODERATION, there aren't any other bad drugs
Don't let my youtube name scare you, it's just an experiment to see if people judge a book by its cover.
Anyways my dad's lucky to be alive. I am lucky to have a dad. I am twenty years old right now and in my second year of university studying mathematics and economics. Life is hard, I fight with my dad all the time, i can see the damage heroin's done to him. He can be extremely unpleasant to be around. He's OD'd a few times, but I am lucky he can still pay my tuition.
Such memories. This commercial always scared me as a little kid. But I get such nostalgia watching it now. They just don't make them like this anymore.
I remember watching this when I was in grade one, right before Pokemon *season 1* came on, and I always had this not quite nostalgia towards it but a respectable kind of...I cant quite explain it but it touched me even when I was a kid, and it still does.
i like this one because it doesn't give any false presumptions, nor does it specify which drug. The guy could've been on anything, and yet at the end of it, his friend/brother was still there. Sappy, but effective.
I remember watching this at 4. I didn't understand the context, but the loneliness and the sorrow totally came through. Much more effective than "just say no".
This commercial made me cry (erm, it still does)...I had never heard the song before seeing this commercial, and years later, when I heard the song, I was all, 'Really? The drug-commercial song become a hit?!'
This commercial is actually how I became familiar with this song, years later it's still burned in my mind. Funny thing is, a friend of mine was doing heroin, a group of us who didn't do drugs knew about it, so we held an intervention. She's now clean, but still struggles to gain weight (she's under weight by 15 pounds. doesn't sound like much but if she became seriously ill, she'd have nothing to fall back on). Luckily, she didn't share needles. Gotta be thankful for that!
Brings back a lot of memories. It still feels like I saw this only yesterday...but its really been 10 years...wow. It still sticks with me, just unforgettable.
This one still gets to me. *sigh* It's been 20 years since I lost someone to drugs and to this day I still wish I'd been able to make him see he didn't need drugs to be "cool".
I still remember this commercial so vividly after having not seen it in at least 10 years. I always thought of it whenever I heard the song "He ain't Heavy". Such a touching commercial, it really sticks with you.
i remember this !! i been lookin for this video forever, it was probably one of the best of its time makes you think why the hell they stopped doing ain't drug commericals !! i never see them on tv anymore !!!
I remember this quite well. Very popular back in the mid 90's. I also recall another commercial where the father is standing at his son's grave, mourning his death from a drug overdose. Does anyone remember that one? Haven't seen it in years...
have no i want to see that commercial the one with the father is standing at his son's grave. But this is a totally sad commerical but it did kept me away from drugs
when I was a kid I thought this commercial was kind of scary because I didnt understand it I thought the one guy (drug addict) was a ghost who died off doing drugs and his brother was the only one who could see him its funny how a kids mind works..........
I really liked this video. It reminded me of an article I read on Gatehouse Academy's site. It's about how to choose a rehab. They work with young adults, so I guess that's why this commercial made me think of them.
by the way for proof he told us his 1 mistake = p pause near the part where its a bit spinign look at the sign on the door it says theatre not rehab. lol
I remember seeing this commercial when I was younger. Not sure if I know what the ad was about(I was about 6, 7 or 8 years old @ the time) But it would always get to me, touch me. The song fits the commercial/Ad & its beautiful. :)
i can remember seeing this one a lot when i was really young. it's fuuny how when you watch a commercial at 5-years-old, then again, 11 years later, truly getting the message. this was one of the one's that really stuck out in my mind. it's one of my favourites, probably because it doesn't scare the crap out of me.
This, and many other OBVIOUS reasons have stopped me from wanting to ever do drugs. Marijauna isn't any better than any other drugs, and there are indeed facts proving this. Stating that marijauna is healthy is cliche bulls**t.
I agree. People who say MJ is healthy are just the idiots duped by their dealer and friends , creating a pyschological pillow for them to continue doing it.
I suppose If you have had lots of(or maybe even a little) negative confrontation with drugs and alchohol, a person (like me) can definetly relate to this commercial. It's not just a regular commercial where they're trying to sell you shit and make money. They're putting it on television for YOUR sake. Think about that. :)
I think I get it now. The guy was leaving his room and going down the hallway to smoke crack. His brother who probably had been waiting for him for to go that way, stood there as a reminder not to do it. I wish you guys had just explained that to me.
The ad says you don't grow up saying you will be a taking drugs and will take rehab. He just tried it and got addicted and it can happen. he wasn't talking drugs as a little kid, maybe as a older teen.
The Old Concerned Children's Advertisers commercials rock, if you could get the one with the Raccoon and the berries that would be sweet.
That is also one of the reasons I didn't do drugs.
Marijuana, though not as bad as Cocaine, is still a very bad drug. It is illegal for a reason, and does have horrific events such as the inability to convert short term memories to long term memories.
