@benjamiy831 it's EPO, you dope. Strictly speaking it's actually human recombinant erythropoietin and its various variants such as Mircera and Aranesp. The drug class is generally called ESAs (erythropoiesis-stimulating proteins). And, the various cycling bodies and the drug makers have made it very difficult to get away with ESA doping these days. As you say, look it up.

However, it changes nothing to the fact that they are amazing athletes and genetic freaks who train more than in any other sport. I know a lot of serious bikers, and I was semi-serious at one point. You simply CANNOT compete at this level without drugs. I'm not diminishing that these people are INCREDIBLE athletes, but they all use drugs, and it's naive to pretend they don't.

@martigra666 When the guys you train with who you don't think use drugs can do 1/10th of the tour de france average 23 miles an hour over the course, I'll believe it's POSSIBLE that anybody that has won that tour doesn't use drugs.

However I didnt do much training last season and still did good.granted its like 5 CATs below them but if i can do so well in crappy shape think of what they could do in PEAK SHAPE. they do something called training, it strengthens them to a point that few even dream of and how does knowing cyclist correlate to the validity of your statement??

Im only joking. People say this sort of thing to me. Actually taking the other side has taught me loads tips how to deal with these couch potatoes on wheels (car drivers). Who incidentally one almost drove into me today as she was chatting on phone after doing her school run. Im very enthusiastic cyclist
@TheBalleBoy Right. If you think only training hard and eating healthy is the only way to succeed in the pro peloton you are gravely mistaken. Even the greatest cyclist of all time, Eddy Merckx, was suspended for doping. Even your local amateur riders look for ways to get an 'edge' in competition.
@SovereignSentient yeah I didn't cycle today. Nearly a wasted day. It was raining in London, though. I wish the sun would actually COME out at ANY time, stupid British weather puts me off, as I don't like carrying loads of waterproof gear or a towel and change of clothes for when I get to my destination...
@precariousbyte Not really mate, I've nothing to prove in that department, just talking day-to-day, it gets old really quickly, carrying loads of gear in the rain when you're just going 10-30 km return to have a drink with some friends - or without it, you're not independent etc. Still, the heavier your bike is, the better the training, I've no fear of THAT part, it's just boring packing all the stuff up and carrying it around with you before some London thief grabs it.
