Oh, please! All that without an explination of exactly what 'Games for Windows Live' actually is. Without all the hype or distractions (xbox), what are we really talking about here? Is this a way to buy regular games online or buy games which can only be played online? Is it online multi-player gaming or can those who prefer to play alone against a computer benefit as well? What are achievements? Where is a list of games?

Great for anti-cheat but don't buy games from them because it's a complete ripoff. How can you be 100% more expensive than my favorite online shop? On top of that I have to download it and keep the game on hdd or burn it (no booklet). I have a 30 Gig DL-limit a month. No way I'm waisting bandwith on overpriced games if I can have the original DVD by post faster than the time it takes to download the bloody thing!!!!!!!!!!!

just downloaded it today bought bioshock 2, and so far its complete shit. if xbox live can have an auto resume download system, why the fuck cant gfw. wait 3 hours just to get to 32%, computer shuts down. and have to completley restart the downlaod from 0%, thanks MS

If you have a PC. Boycott GFWL / LIVE games. For one things. Its terrible to play compared to proper PC games networks. For a second thing, you may have paid thousands for a PC which gives you a much better machine than a 200/300 Xbox. Shadowrun is a good example. Massive complaints to consumer direct (UK) when MS charged people to play on a monthly basis before backing down. MS have made it clear that they are working towards and ASP model. Pay as you play? More like pay and pay forever.

Well actually I read on quite a couple of forums (including Gamespot forums) that GFWL has a lot of problems and plus the fact most GFWL titles don't even support mods (GTA 4 is like the only one), however steam does and is a way better service considering it doesn't have as many problems as GFWL does, so that's just a stupid statement. You also might want to think about the fact that Live's servers are really shitty (trust me I have friends who have used it so don't bash me for this).

I was backing up my old friend GFWL. 1. Fallout 3 supports mods 2. I am very active on the actual GFWL Forums and there are so many people that have no problem with live 3. The online really isnt bad, its just most people dont give it a try. I know for a fact that no other computer program can let you do cross platform so gfwl is a first on that one. and I also might add that it is really fun doing crossplatform

GFWL is not the only program you can do cross platform gameplay with, Gamespy just did that with Unreal Tournament 3 and are planning on doing that with other games, there are also certain MMOs which have allowed people do have cross platform gameplay and there are also more on the way such as The Agency (Star Wars the Old Republic might do the same thing as well), so you obviously don't know what your talking about, no offense.

I was actually unaware of that feature of Gamespy. On the matter of crossplatform matches I will say that GFWL truely has it down compared any other program because there are more games out for gfwl that support xplatform then gamespy has. I also will add that steam has copied many things off of gfwl and xbox...but I will say that gfwl has copied some things from steam as well. I'll call it a mutual relationship.

There are plenty of games (such as Final Fantasy 11) which have had crossplatform gaming long before GFWL/XBL, and that cross platform feature isn't even present in most GFWL titles (in fact most games for windows titles dont even have live enabled). So you can say what you want but Live is not at all the best service and GFWL is shit compared to steam and gamespy and will never have nearly as many people as other services that are out there.

Each has its own advantages. I use Steam for most games, but for Microsoft oriented games such as Gears of War, Halo 2, Shadowrun, etc, I use GFWL. I also play Fallout 3 on GFWL because of achievements and DLC. However, when it comes to other games, I find Steam a preferable platform.

Games for Windows Live is probably one of the stupidest ideas that anyone could possibly come up with. I don't think you can even mod or create maps with this service like you can using something such as Steam or the Unreal Editor. If you guys want a cool gaming service I would definitely recommend Gamespy, it gives you so much more than live does, including hitpoints which you can exchange for games rather than using cash.

I've always been a console guy, but now I am becoming torn between the two, especially with 'games for windows', since I can easily start playing with my wireless 360 controller on the PC. I would love for PC games to become more like console games, less the restrictions

Actually making PC like consoles would put more restrictions on certain things such as what I just mentioned above, you might be able to map in certain games but a ton of other things are restricted. Thats why I prefer Steam over the gay GFWL service because through the Steam service Valve allows user created content, unlike Live, and ultimately delivers more to the players than console ever could.

What you just said is nonsense. All, that's ALL my friends, have either a PS1, PS2, Xbox, 360, PS3. Some have more than one. None of them have gaming PCs.

In my college, I know of one person who plays games on their PC. Just about everyone else plays/owns a console. (this is out of over 2000 people)

Actually you'll find that more people play PC gaming. Don't believe me, look how many people are playing games like Counter Strike Source, Unreal games, Battlefield on PC, and even Starcraft. And just so all console fanboys know, I just read an article recently that said that more people actually pay to play World of Warcraft compared to that of Xbox Live, when you count the total number of Live accounts, not all of them are gold where as people who play WoW are all playing online.
