i find it better and so would many at 8:01 use the thumb on 2nd string and first finger on the first string pull of and then thumb thumb and first so use thumb and first seems easier to me than using thumb first and second.

Hi! Regarding the most difficult (repetitious part) of the solo, Ive figured you can hammer-on and get nearly the same sound with half the afford! Im training the 2 finger picking now, but I can pretty much get the speed with the hammer-on method.

Saw a close up of knopfler playing this recently. Great video BTW, but the bit near the end that you said is the hardest bit is wrong. He doesn't double pluck the top e. He just hammer on and pulls off to get the same effect. I tried it and it is pretty easy, I find the part before quite a lot harder!

I never realized how sophisticated,to say nothing of great taste, Knopfler's playing was in this song until seeing it performed.There's allot going on and NONE of it's fluff.

Thanks Tom. I first heard this song in '78. Oh, it sure sounds bad when I write that out.

Never stayed in 1 place long enough to take lessons or get up with any kind of group.

Always knew I'd get it one day. Hell, even us "old" guys can learn from the net.
