Wrong. Your "devil worshipers" were actually pious (or impious) Catholics. Many were Catholic priests who before their departure from this world would no doubt have received the last rites of the RC Church. They were generally working with the practical Kabbalah complete with an admixture of a whole lot of other Renaissance stuff...alchemy, classical paganism, hermeticism etc. etc.

Modern theistic satanism is a mix of this stuff with the Old Religion (horned god, wicca etc.)

very well said. you also touched on something that many people argue about. they argue about how old Satanism is and the worship of Satan. I have told many people that it has been around for a long time though it may not have been called Satanism at the time it was around. Ave Satan!
