  • I'd bet there are seats in the winged submarine...

  • Someone tell this guy that lying on your stomach limits the length of time that you can be in that one position.

  • Earth?-water? Magma ! dirt ,all the rest is" skin "deep. More planes in the sea than summarines in the sky.....

  • Every time I saw that sub I had the James Bond theme playing in my head lol

  • Meaningless drivel. Just bring on the cool submarine and leave the new age crap alone.

  • We still call this planet Earth?!? What the heck do you want us to call it? New Age fool!

  • This sub is beautiful, as a pilot, I'd love to "fly" it. I do take offense when people like Hawkes step beyond their expertise to take potshots at people of faith by declaring something he could not possibly know. It is a shame that just because a guy builds a sub, that gives him an excuse to ram his philosophy on origins down our throats. We want to hear about his subs, he should keep the rest to himself.

  • @voicewr

What do you mean, "philosophy on origins"? Everything he said is backed up by science. One only needs to venture into the realm of philosophy when denying science.

  • thats a horrible position to be driving any machine, under water, in the sky and in land, human anatomy certainly prefers the sitting posture to any other in terms of confort and it also has to do with way we look at things in general and the relation between or eyes and the neck joint

Also we have seen what humans have been doing on land and at sea level, leave the underwater world as it is

  • @LusoCMD that's why I think my paragliding is more comfortable than my friend's hangglider

  • Yeah we should have sent satellites into the ocean so we could have the communication and observational perspective of EARTH so much better . We are never going to live at the depths of the ocean , underwater sure but not places where the atmosphere is thousands of times heavier , space = no friction , gravity , no limit to the possibilities ... the ocean .... wow dancing with manta rays , cool toys but not tools that will advance mankind like the space shuttle.

  • I think teflon's a pollutant, actually. Apparently some of the most effective marine materials had to be dumped because they were ruining the oceans. He's got a point - we know most of what flies, and most of what walks, and a lot of what crawls. But there's a hell of a lot of stuff that swims we don't know anything about. And as far as we know, there's no life in space within several hundred years of travel...

  • Fuel cells could provide more range and power than batteries. Also coating the sub with teflon or other such material would reduce drag, enabling the sub to go faster. Just my 2 cents.

  • This guy comes off as a prick, if he'd like to change the laws of physics be my guest. Whiny fuck.

  • Let's see:

He's out there trying stuff, following his vision.

    The stuff he creates WORKS.

He's not patenting his stuff, and invites others to join in.

He demonstrates a deep appreciation of the splendor to be found in the deep oceans.

    I like this guy!

  • I think he's been spending too much time with manta rays.

  • it annoys me when people say theres more to be explored in the ocean then in space.

there are millions of oceans on other planets with completely different biology. thats where the real shits at.

  • @Robstailey That's a funny statement. Tell me how you will ever reach the infinite amount of planets out there and explore them? You are deluding yourself if you believe that humans will ever leave this solar system or be able to eventually break the light barrier.

  • He's not as smart as he thinks he is.

  • Earth should be called Earth. Because most of the planet is Earth. The oceans cover most of the surface of the planet, yes... but in it's entirety, the planet is mostly the Earth. This issue is one of semantics and not really worth wasting time discussing.

We should explore the Earth, the oceans and space all at the same time. We're resourceful enough to do this.

  • impressive size

  • What an intersting chap - thanks for posting

  • He did one coment about the world not being created for man and suddenly alot of people is calling him a smug, jerk asshole etc??

So the minute one say something that don't agree with your belife system , he becomes a jerk, smug etc??

I'v been following his work for years now, and I just love this sub.. Genius sub and genius man.

  • @dodger1x

    absolutely brilliant man

  • Seems as though in general, the design of the crafts themselves are what is limiting the ability to three dimensionally traverse the deep. Although it may not work on a large scale, serpentine flexibility may work in unmanned and single person situations to help alleviate those shortcomings.

  • hehe, what a prick

  • He has good ideas but he is still a smug pugly son of a bitch

  • I think you just inspired me to make my own videos. haha but I'm too lazy to! but good job with this video I can't wait to see more of your work

  • huhuhuh waaaaaaaaaaaaa harharhar waaaaaaaaaa huhuhuhu...I WAAAAANNNTTTT ONE!!!!

  • he needs to just build a house at the bottom of the ocean and live there. so no one ever has to see him again.

  • You know my friend told me to watch this video.. and I'm glad she told me. haha this video is trippy. not a bad trippy a good one! haha

  • What a smug jerk. And he misused the T.S. Eliot quote. Eliot was a Christian who did not believe in evolution.

  • He wasn't talking about evolution, he was talking about exploration. Perfectly good quote.

  • His' spiel on the nature of three-dimensional perception in underwater environs could lend to inter-disciplinary improvements such as improved spacecraft navigation systems and bio-sensor technologies (how about replicating biological sonar? Study the visual cortexes of brilliant creatures like cephalopods (cuttlefish, anyone?). I absolutely loved his re-definition of the ocean as an "inner atmosphere'. And, of course, ocean research will be much more cost-effective. Prophetic implications.

  • Its a shame that Mr Hawkes was obviously nervous for this - his concept is truly amazing, and bears further investigation. For the very first time, thanks to him, we will be able to take a look into an alien world here on Earth, the very deepest recesses of our oceans, where all life began. It is easier to put a probe on Mars than it is to put one on the ocean floor; and he has built a machine capable of taking a human there. That is the equivalent of a ship to take a human to the Moon or Mars.

  • gna gna gna... yeaah.

weird, I just fell on 2 bad TED talks in a row---that's RARE!!

  • amazing it is that so many have emo need to spew hate at those who r religious - no need to follow their paths - why follow hate

  • stfu religion faggets, the point of religion is enlightenment, unconditional love and fairness to all thats what is all about.. You don't need to read a 1 thousand page book to learn what life is all about. All beings have an un-alienable right to exist but not all beings are born with the same ablities. You religios fucks make me sick..

  • disaster planet earth,

  • 1337

  • Holy shit I just saw that.

  • Tuch - You are incorrect with your interpretations of the scriptures. The Bible does "not" teach that the earth is flat. The scriptures you gave do not indicate that. The teachings of the Bible are consistent with scientific evidence. Athiests do not want people to know that or they twist the interpretation of scripture

  • I think you'll find athiests just want bibble bashing cretins to just STFU!

If you want to believe bronze age, sex starved morons with sand in their knickers, crawl back under your slimey little rock, read your dumb book and leave others to watch videos about submarines in piece.

  • Anymore when someone tries to bring the bible into a conversation I pretend they're talking about harry potter. The correct response to ridiculous statements is ridicule. If they complain I say. "Sorry I thought we were talking about the book with the talking snake and all the genocide in the name of some superwizard who's name wasn't permited to be spoken aloud and the guy who sacrificed himself to save everyone." It always leaves me chuckling.

  • >The teachings of the Bible are consistent with scientific evidence.

    one word:

    EVOLUTION

  • lol @ ratholin & roidroid.

ratholin Harry Potter is a decent book, it has a sense of right and wrong.

  • the future!

  • I'm a very holy man, a VERY... VERY HOLY MAN

  • Where is it suggested in the Bible that the earth is flat?

    Here are a few examples.

    Daniel 4:10-11

    Matthew 4:8

    Isaiah 40:22

Some other scientific absurdities recorded in the Bible include: Sun revolving around the earth, Earth does not move, Earth stands on pillars.

you can believe you came from a magical wizard in the sky...maybe you do. I don't.

  • well said. and then some.

  • Europa will demand new technologies in submersible technology.

  • This man has good ideas. But he is not thinking of the future only going backwards. The technology he is using is about 50 years old. But it is a cool toy. He would be surprised that aerospace technology used by are military is beyond the civilian sector. That is why it is top secret.

  • Stupid fool. I wasn't defending the Bible over science. I said the 'educated' man put down something he hasn't even read properly. The Bible itself said the earth was EARTH before it became 2/3 water. He's just not that well read for an 'educated' man.

You can believe you came from a piece of slime in a pool ... maybe you do!

Something else...The Bible said the earth was a globe before man 'discovered' that! And that was written 4000 years ago. So much for science aye!!!

  • The bible said the Earth was flat. The bible is not scientific and it's not historical. Unicorns and dragons, wake up.

  • Where o wise one does it say that? Just so you now 'surface' does not mean flat. Where does it say that then?

  • "The Bible itself said the earth was EARTH before it became 2/3 water"

Where do you think the water came from? When i read genesis, it mentions the sea and the air and the land as earth. Not just earth alone as only dirt and land.

  • the run time is leet :) 1337

  • While reading many of these christian comments, i wonder: Is it really christians who accually write them? It must be some kind of bad joke, it could even be atheist writing these comments to make religion look bad, but i know thats not the case. Many ppl just havent got a healthy connection to their religion. So please stop being so judgemental, and taking every letter in the bible for what it is. GOD DAMN IT!

  • Well, the bible either has something to say, or it doesn't.

  • they get paid by certain groups to make you guys look bad.

    trust me i know

  • Yeah there is this alien living in the Earth's mantle conducting a vast conspiracy against the power hungry alien who lives in the clouds.

    Christianity in a nutshell.

  • Same retards that voted for mccain. They spam a ton of stuff all over the internet.

  • I can understand where he's coming from. If he wants to explore the seas & oceans in underwater jets... Well then more power to him! :)

Always keep an open mind, even after you've formed your own option.

  • interesting but a little foolish. he is arguing for more exploring of the ocean, and he tries to convince people that it is the most important thing to explore. I think that the best thing to explore is the one you think is most interesting

  • Nice argument daggyz1959, he is a scientist so he tries not to base his arguments on fiction and flights of fancy. Just because you choose to have faith in something doesn't make it true...

Shall I start quoting Harry Potter as fact when I discuss alternate uses for broomsticks? ...

  • Holy Jesus Fucking Christ!

You're kidding aren't you, employing Creationism as a scientific explanation?!

  • i take hes word over the bibble any day.

  • You are an uneducated brain washed blind fool. Delete your Youtube account, castrate yourself, and cut out your tongue. I am sick of listening to you fucking retarded ignorant religious people try and defend a 2000 year old book to the death. Start using logic and living in the real world.

  • fail! all anyone would have to do is take a world religions class where one would learn about ALL the creation stories. Your ignorance shines in your pitiful biased view. "The bible says it, I believe it, that settles it!"

    Pathetic!

  • lol the bible

  • The Bible theory is good daggyz1959, unfortunately you've never heard of Xenu, the dictator of the Galactic Confederacy who, 75 million years ago brought billions of his people to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs. So bearing in mind that you don't know Scientology, and bearing in mind that in order to comment on anything creation (without appearing as stupid as you are Christian) you should know what L. Ron hubbard said first.

  • Well i must say I´ve heard about this, making one of my essays about your cult. (yes its a cult). Scientology is written by and sciencefiction writer and the most scary part is that almost all members(over 99%) has an absolute belive in what these learnings tell them. Meaning the free will is almost completely dead. Its also one of the most lucrative religions, bet you spend a lot of money/ or will do in the future. Please go seek help.(No im not a christian, or anything, not even atheist)

  • @goodmorningjoan

Are you taking WhosTheDot seriously on this? I mean, Xenu, dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy", bringing billions of his people to earth to kill them with hydrogen bombs? Either you missed all that and just saw "Scientology", or Scientology is much more messed up and ludicrous than I thought it was, LOL.

  • :D i can see why you think that. But accually thats what they belive(one of many strange things) so If you wanna learn more, or just amuse yourself, google it.

At the same time; It surely is strange, but not that much more messed up than many other religious learnings. (sorry to say that)

  • Damn... Had no idea! Yeah, you are right that it isn't that much more far-fetched than some stuff in other religions, though usually other religions put this sorta stuff in a different supernatural realm, where much more is possible. But this Galactic Confederacy stuff seems like something out of a comic series, turned into a religion, rather than a fairytale turned into a religion.. Which just makes it sillier than most.

  • Ahh, googling explains it a bit:

"Members of the Church of Scientology widely deny or try to hide the Xenu story."

So it's something the founder of Scientology came up with came up with, but most adherents don't believe it. So that's atleast a little more reasonable than all these people actually thinking that this happened.

  • @ehsanul, goodmorningjoan is correct. This is indeed what Scientology preaches.

  • I was being facetious nutbar.

In the future I'll sign everything L. Ron Hubbard so you know you're not supposed to take me seriously.

  • 3d max yay ya!

  • autodesk....i really like their program

  • He underestimates whats in space by his opening pitch.

Using his analogy of the planes depth and area, space would fill the whole building he's in and thats in 3d too...

  • great stuff!..and it warms an atheist heart<3 :)

  • earth striped what under all that water

  • Not all the things he's saying are quite true, for instance, gravity is still a factor under water.

  • That depends on the buoyancy an object when immersed in water. If you had ever done any scuba diving you would know that the effect of gravity is imperceptible when one has neutral buoyancy.

  • Actually I'm a 3 star CMAS diver and whilst bouyancy may negate the effects of gravity it doesn't make it any less present.

The same argument can also be made a about our atmosphere. Are air balloons not subjected to gravity?

Lastly, bouyancy isn't always kept neutral or else diving would be a pain in the ass. Hence the factor of gravity is very much relevant even under water, which would be the point that I was making.

  • Nice

  • OK

    :)

  • it is now that in the pacific ocean at all depths, there is a uncleanablde amount of plastics. wich when added to the fertalizer and human waste. both of wich will be projected to rise in the ocean due to population growth.there then will come a time of folcrum slide.were it will be imposible to do anything about it.the ocean will then have a bactirial bloom, wich will kill off the vast amount of life in the ocean, due to deoxigenation of the ocean. wich will then lead to terrestrial die offs.

  • madelene22q

This video gets me for sure sexy, you know what I mean?

    ------------

Are you just a wee bit arrogant, and a lot in love with yourself!! GO GET A LIFE!

  • Umm. Many good points, but damn hard to get past the presentation.

I'm sure that's the latest in sub design, but...compared to the shark, or manta it's clear it's a product of land..inflexible. Sharks don't use propellers.

Also keeping ones head up for hours sounds like a good way to get a neckache. Gravity still works in the sea.

  • right, they should fill the cabin and give him a scuba suit, maybe that'd sustain more pressure too.

  • Not if you have neutral bouyancy it doesn't. You have abviously never been scuba diving.

  • Great machine. Great ideas. But he's a dick.

  • I think it's you that is the penis my friend.

  • OK

    :)

  • Rockets don't explore earth, they explore space.

  • Oh shut up.

  • You are fully a glutton 4 punishment u poor deluded floodlet (can i call u 'drip', 4 short?) I feel sympathy 4 yr very limited horizons. Whatever u do, don't think BAD thoughts bcos u know, that's JUST as bad as actually doing those sinful things u think of all the time. Looks 2 me u have a SURE future in Hell, without doubt, since u really r less than perfect and JC never actually existed. Your immediate superior is commonly known as Lucifer, u evangelistic wannabe. Rotsa Ruck matey, u need it!

  • weak

  • blablabla and everyone ends up in heaven unless you promote lucifer. so chill out. ;-)

  • Who are you kidding with your antediluvian nonsense, floodlet? Other Christians maybe? Keep taking the medication mate. The worst that can happen is you wake up to find your 'faith' was a simpletons dreamwish, when you're 98 yrs old, and about to kick the bucket! Dogmatic Christians are so old and stale no one bothers to listen anyway. How tragic you are! So don't feel obliged to bless me or save my soul. PLEASE!

  • I wanna ride in that. Looks fun :D

  • Why must you damn the Lord. Do you think I will believe you more? Do you think you are superior to us all?

  • do Christians think they are superior to non believers?

  • yea... and if you held up a black square to represent space you would not be able to back up far enough to see it. so we should stop exploring space and explore the ocean because?

but calling the planet earth does kind of expose us all as a bunch of land mamal stone throwing beast things.

  • ...but can you do this? (touches penis)

  • I don't agree with one of the comments. Space exploration is the ultimate future and our need to get back where we came from, which is STARS.

  • he didn't even mention scuba diving....

  • hi is just a typical scientist, they talk that way to get a core point across. I have sat in 100's of lectures etc and the ones you remember vividly are the 'unusually delivered' ones.

A lot he says requires further research for sure.

  • We can stereotype science now?

  • Glad u agree with me abt the Moon landing hoax (check my comment reply to s4jt further down this page). I think Robert Ballard has said a lot of good things abt deep ocean research, the rewards from, and the great need to explore, which this chap wishes he had said I'll bet. I find Ballard a lot more congenial and articulate compared to Mr Hawkes although they are often following the same vein in their researches. Ppl stereotype anything they can label, by the way Rhino...

  • Mr. Hawkes' view is not any better either. He say that we are stupid for calling our planet Earth. Even though it's covered 2/3 with ocean, most of it is rock. Several kilometers of water and nothing compared to the thousands of kilometers of rock underneath. Also, his is a 2-D view as well, because with all this rock, the ocean is like a 2D sheet compared to it.

His delivery of this talk was pretty shitty and insulting. However, I think he is right to say we need to explore our oceans more.

  • hawkes=praise me,i`m great!-i love me ,who do you love?.

  • Wonderful. The rocket boys gave us the first

complete ocean bottom map so maybe they aren't all bad..LOL

That thing needs some design work to be a truly 3D flight system, but as a pioneer effort it is beautiful.

  • douch

  • > douch

    douche

  • ha thanks...Aristoteles/Galileu/hawkes...ha

  • ... A legend in his own mind...

  • It takes all kinds to make the world go around. Just because all people don't study what you study doesn't make them stupid. Believe it or not....we live on the Earth part of this "water planet"

  • Well yes, then again the earth part of it has been relatively explored already. We're basically just down to the rain forests and the poles.

Space exploration will yield absolutely nothing until we somehow can come up with a solution to reach across the vast distances to other hospitable solar systems.

Why explore the outside of the box when you don't even know what's inside of it?

  • that's inside the box thinking

  • Hell, s4jt, no one has convinced me yet we even got to the Moon! What makes u imagine human beings can go waltzing around in space with impunity? Get outside the protection of the Earths magnetic shield and u will be COOKED by hard cosmic radiation. Since the Apollo astronauts were not wearing lead underwear, I deeply doubt any of them have been 2 the Moon. They told sceptical schoolkids that gold foil was especially good at 'reflecting' those nasty old gamma rays! Anyone care 2 enlighten us?

  • Actually most of these claims have been debunked by experts. I thought they were interesting aswell, too bad they have little or no basis.

Just google "debunking" and "moon landing".
