  • A living legend!

This one's probably my all-time favourite music...

  • 'I don't like going to shows neither'...

but he puts on a hell of one

  • Comment removed

  • To listen to this music you just got to be yourself..

  • Mark was at a music festival I went to once. I saw him go in to the toilets so I followed. I stood next to him as we both took a piss. I turned and looked at him and smiled, he nodded and smiled back. Then I looked down at his willy and began to breath heavily, sweating as I did so.

  • @MrWhak cool story bro

  • Wow. You are saying a band that is contantly touring, a man that has put out 3 albums in the last years that all sold pretty well, a band that has had multiple songs in mainstream hollywood movies and a man with one of the most epic beards ever is underrated or too unknown?

Jesus Christ, why do people always have the need to feel "special" and constantly brag about the fact that they know bands that no one else knows.

  • I DONT LEAVE THE HOUSE MUCH, I DONT LIKE BEING AROUND PEOPLE.....

  • E needs to be my wife.

  • I'm glad eels are underrated. I want them all to myself. Muhahahaha

  • Thats his lifestyle.....

    and mine

  • One of those songs you just never want to end.

  • Awesome.

  • amazing

  • this song on this tour made me cry when i saw it live in liverpool i think...

  • Beautifull , I read the book and now listened to the @E' Book narrated by Chet . E seems a top man , funny , talented and kind hearted . One of A kind In the music business I'd guess. Long Live 'E' and Bobby jnr....

  • The two people who voted dislike to this should be shot. E is an absolute legend!

  • @ChrisSutton82 Nobody should be shot. Everyone has their own opinion and taste. Lets just focus on the 261 who loved this song.

  • great book great song.i admire the guys honesty

  • moving

  • This song Deacribes my social shyness perfectly, that line about taking his dog for that's what I do

  • this is my new fav Eels song!!! ((I just discovered it, thankfully))

  • Amazing performance and yes btw, get E's book - Spectacular.

  • that book changed my life

  • That chick is the most intense maraca player I have ever seen at 1:12.

  • Great song I hadn't heard before, despite having several Eels albums. Some of the comments though, I can only assume to be American, Sorry, but 'helped me when I was suicidal'? Mmmm.. maybe you should be listening to Leonard Cohen with your Aspirin. His dog wagged it's tail while the vet put it to sleep? 'Kin 'ell, sounds like Country lyrics to me.

  • Not only did his music have to be good, but his book is too?

    E, sir. You are talented.

  • just finished the book and WOW im an instant fan where I wasnt before! brilliant :) LOVE E!!!!

  • How does he not break-down mid-song?

    It's such a beautiful song...

  • He seems to have a voice for the under appreciated secluded masses, i like his honesty and politeness when addressing this minority. Unlike Oasis who piss me off, E writes with honesty yet subtle optimism and his book only enhances one's appreciation of his work, please do a 2010 tour E!!!

  • His book is one of the best ever. what a legend!

  • I used to think this song was written for me, but now I realise I was written for the song.

  • Dude...i can't express how much eels and e's lyrics has meant for me :) I had some real tough years with clinical depression and shit...Eels really helped me man...Dude knows what he's talkin' about...E is as real as they come :)

  • Me too, mate. His music let's you think about your own problems, drawing parallels, but I never feel depressed listening to his music. It's neither happy nor sad, it's just honest and moving. And inspirational, too.

  • Same as some other posters i read this book recently in about 2 or 3 nights and could hardly put the book down.I've always loved Eels but after reading E's book i have so much admiration for the guy.Funnily for all the tragedy in his life th moment that really got to me in his book was the bit he said he sobbed his heart out in the Vets when his Dog got put down bcos it wagged it's tail at him after it got it's jag.I know that sounds strange in the context of the book but it did.Anyway luv this.

  • i`ve just read the book - took me about 4 evenings in bed and was very moving, enough to bring tears to the eyes but whats wrong with that.

E is a genius and i love his songs. if you are reading this E thank you for everything. greetings from the UK

  • Well said, I read his book in two 'sittings' a rare feat for me. An uplifting book and thanks for the great music E

  • Musical talent - even genius. His father was also a pretty serious genius. Hugh Everett III was a Princeton metaphysicist that rocked the academic world. Check him out on Wiki. Also was a nice documentary a year ago on PBS about the father and son relationship

  • E's a genius and a living legend.

  • Greatest ,artist.poet,singer/songwriter living today....he's book shows/explains exactly why he is such a great artist...fantastic read.....harrowing,beatiful,suffocating.delerious thank you E

  • the Amazing thing is we grew up Confusingly Mad at the Odditys our Fathers did untill we enter the same World he Must have once been In. Sadly its too late to say we know what it must have been like.

P.S. I can look it up but what is the book these people Speek of. I saw the parallel worlds; Is it about That?

  • it took my less than 5 hours to read the book.

I recommend it to everybody, it will stick with you forever, thanks E.

  • "I do some stupid things, but my heart's in the right place, and this I know."

    Amazing.

  • Ordered the book yesterday, can't wait to read it.

  • heheh yeah..thanks..I have a feeling its goig to be a hell of a good read..

  • It is. I started reading it last monday, and finished it by tuesday morning.

  • what's the name of Mr.E's book?

  • "Things The Grandchildren Should Know" - Get it! ;)

  • @fecalfoetus A great book.

  • @fecalfoetus Blinking Lights and Other Revelations: The Story of Eels out next year in January...

  • I read his book~the song fits~he is amazing:)

  • Mr. E is the only person who can write literalistic songs and make them good.

  • Keeping it real;) LOVE IT!!! I so relate to this song it's beautiful and sad at the same time....

  • So in the end i'd like to say

That i'm a very thankful man

I tried to make the most of my situations

    And enjoy what i had

I knew true love and i knew passion

And the difference between the two

    And i had some regrets

But if i had to do it all again

Well, it's something i'd like to do

    thank you

  • Beautiful!

  • "I do some stupid things, But my heart's in the right place and this I know"

    E is amazing.

  • Amazong song, amazing performance, amazing artist! I love you Mr E!

  • this song = me

  • E said that during this tour someone (in Germany I think) yelled out, "You're borrrrrring!"

Some people just don't get it.

  • i probably would have slap the person right across the face.

not because they were rude, but to wake them up and be like WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?seriously, a genius was standing in front of them and they didnt even appreciate his beautiful music!

hopefully he will come to the uk again, i didnt know of him the last time he was here, heck i didnt even listened to english language music -_-

but Mr. E changed me:)i will do anything in my power to see him when he does come back!

  • I do some stupid things, but my heart's in the right place, and this I know.

  • My Bad! I was looking at last years tour dates! Which is a shame because I really want to see the band... Last years dates have now been removed from the official site, so hopefully some new dates for 2009 will be announced soon.

  • He is amazing live, a crowd of all types of personalities, all silenced by this mans ever positive outcome on life, if his approach or his book cant help you nothing can. You will love every minute when you get to see him!

  • Well - be warned actually!

I know someone who went to an EELs gig (I was kicking myself for not getting tickets in time) and apparently he hates clapping and cheering - actually he got really pissed off with the crowd. He shouted: "This ain't a football match you know!" (this was his UK tour)

Also sometimes he does really different stuff with violins, so I guess it depends what mood he's in...

    Be prepared for weirdness!

  • getting cher to play the shaker was real coup

  • E is a fascinating Rock Star, Im going to see the Eels for the first time in January, cant wait.

  • Are there already tour dates for 2009?

  • great song! i sometimes i feel like this. or maybe all the time. ..... ..

  • The Nova thing was about Mark's journey to find out about his famous physicist dad. I found him by watching the same thing.

  • I cannot get enough of the Eels. Why cant all artist be artist like "E" Beautiful and deep

  • @fayettevillewino that's exactly why he's so unique, no artist hould be like him.

  • @fayettevillewino All artists can't be like Mr. E, because most people have had ordinary lives with loving parents through a big part of their life. Poor E lost his mother, father and sister at a pretty young age. He has more life experience that most artists these days.

  • does anyone know if this guy have Asperger's syndrome? because I can relate to every word in this song and I do. x.x

  • i dont know if if i have A.S., but i certainly have symptoms. im 27. this song describes me more than any song. Good point Adkit2

  • I just discovered this group by watching PBS's NOVA last night (love them). I was really moved by it. His father was a brillant physicist and apparently most of his family suffered from emotional problems. A.S. wasn't mentioned, but if you can catch that NOVA you'll really get some insight into this man and just why his music is so deep and poignant.

  • Pretty sure it doesn't, but as somebody who, like E, has battled depression for all of his years, I can say with confidence that this song is about finding your way out of a tangle of anxiety and horror.

  • i always associated the song with social phobia...

    havent read the book yet.

  • the book is SO good - i couldnt put it down, read it in 2 days... :) i never knew about E or the Eels before and i fell in love with him as soon as i read the first page.. :)

  • now i really do want to buy it : o

  • The book and the song show a bit of a parallel, you'd see a lot of the song in the book, and vice versa. Both beautiful things from an incredibly intellectual and surreal songwriter and musician.

  • The song is about his social phobia, but reading the book explains why that phobia exists.

  • Comment removed

  • Love the eels..wish they weren't so under rated here.

  • @LaylaM0MMY The are not underrated, we like his music ;)

  • @LaylaM0MMY They are not underrated, we like his music ;)

  • @LaylaM0MMY I think the Eels are superb, got to say it doesn't bother me at all that others don't rate them - it is their loss - a very Eels-like situation that don't you think?

  • Only E can be this frank and truthful musically! How many artists sing about their dead fathers as openly as this. No bullshit just pure expression.

  • love this song...

    Eels lyrics are real masterpieces

    thanks for posting

  • read the book of the same name, the book explains the song and the song is the soundtrack to the book!

  • I just ordered the book. Looking greatly forward to it. E is amazing.

  • Great stuff. Really makes you think about life as a whole. I love the way he includes "Theme from Blinking Lights" at the end.

  • definitly the best band ever. i wish i had seen the documentary, but thats what happens when you live in america. you get hannah montana, not mark oliver overett.

  • sorry, everett.

  • Are you talking about the BBC documentary? Because they put it on PBS now. It was on Nova. Great documentary.

  • like the best band out of America

    so underrated over here

  • i enjoyed the bbc documentry on eels his father was one very clever man mark seems like a very chilled out dude an this song is an masterpiece i think its a case of like father like son but in two differnt parrel worlds lol if he ever comes on tour to liverpool uk i will deffinitly go and see him :)

  • great song!!!

  • Very good music

  • The beauty of this tune is that it gives you the feeling that even though your life may have been filled with tragedy, and it constantly kicked the crap out of you, if you hang in there and stay around until you're an old man, (like me), no one can ever say you were defeated. It's just that time finally ran out. No matter what happens, always hold your f***ing head high!!

  • right on old guy!! fuck yes...reading this comment really made my day, and i'm not sure why...and it's night...but hey! i'm going to bed psyched up. holding my f***ing head high! high five, let's have cider.

  • this song is amazing...cant say more about it..

  • This is one of the things I love about E and Eels - Everyone is united in their opinions. I mean look at all the positive comments for once. This site is a breeding ground for ridiculous arguments but you very rarely get that on an eels video.

    Love the book too!

  • good! i'm looking to get that book soon...

  • this song makes me feel better about life.

  • Good on you !

  • Thanks E, you an chet were amazing in manchester back in feb!

  • I second that

  • this describes me more than any song

  • Genius is an over used word when it comes to talking about music, but this is genius

  • An amazing song. Buy his book " things the grandchildren should know " It chapters his rise and mostly falls, but his songs will take on a new meaning! Up until i read his book i was suicidal and have been for years, but it gave me a massive confidence boost! and things are now better than ever.

  • One of his most personal songs. Thanks E for sharing, we do love you !

  • Thanks for this. One of my favorite Eels songs.

  • Awesome

  • In anyone else's hands those lyrics would be kind of facile. But when he delivers them it's like DanceToTheRadio says - you just want to cry.

  • Great song

  • This just made me cry and I haven't cried for at least a year and a half,so I don't do it lightly. That song is amazing.Truly truly amazing.

  • Unique..I would say..

  • perfect!

    love it!

the song played at my funeral, i know it!

  • utterly amazing, the eels are one of the only bands i can really relate to. keep up the good work Mr E.

  • Brilliant.
