Mark was at a music festival I went to once. I saw him go in to the toilets so I followed. I stood next to him as we both took a piss. I turned and looked at him and smiled, he nodded and smiled back. Then I looked down at his willy and began to breath heavily, sweating as I did so.
Wow. You are saying a band that is contantly touring, a man that has put out 3 albums in the last years that all sold pretty well, a band that has had multiple songs in mainstream hollywood movies and a man with one of the most epic beards ever is underrated or too unknown?
Jesus Christ, why do people always have the need to feel "special" and constantly brag about the fact that they know bands that no one else knows.
Beautifull , I read the book and now listened to the E' Book narrated by Chet . E seems a top man , funny , talented and kind hearted . One of A kind In the music business I'd guess. Long Live 'E' and Bobby jnr....

Great song I hadn't heard before, despite having several Eels albums. Some of the comments though, I can only assume to be American, Sorry, but 'helped me when I was suicidal'? Mmmm.. maybe you should be listening to Leonard Cohen with your Aspirin. His dog wagged it's tail while the vet put it to sleep? 'Kin 'ell, sounds like Country lyrics to me.
He seems to have a voice for the under appreciated secluded masses, i like his honesty and politeness when addressing this minority. Unlike Oasis who piss me off, E writes with honesty yet subtle optimism and his book only enhances one's appreciation of his work, please do a 2010 tour E!!!
Dude...i can't express how much eels and e's lyrics has meant for me :) I had some real tough years with clinical depression and shit...Eels really helped me man...Dude knows what he's talkin' about...E is as real as they come :)
Me too, mate. His music let's you think about your own problems, drawing parallels, but I never feel depressed listening to his music. It's neither happy nor sad, it's just honest and moving. And inspirational, too.
Same as some other posters i read this book recently in about 2 or 3 nights and could hardly put the book down.I've always loved Eels but after reading E's book i have so much admiration for the guy.Funnily for all the tragedy in his life th moment that really got to me in his book was the bit he said he sobbed his heart out in the Vets when his Dog got put down bcos it wagged it's tail at him after it got it's jag.I know that sounds strange in the context of the book but it did.Anyway luv this.
Musical talent - even genius. His father was also a pretty serious genius. Hugh Everett III was a Princeton metaphysicist that rocked the academic world. Check him out on Wiki. Also was a nice documentary a year ago on PBS about the father and son relationship
Greatest ,artist.poet,singer/songwriter living today....he's book shows/explains exactly why he is such a great artist...fantastic read.....harrowing,beatiful,suffocating.delerious thank you E
the Amazing thing is we grew up Confusingly Mad at the Odditys our Fathers did untill we enter the same World he Must have once been In. Sadly its too late to say we know what it must have been like.
P.S. I can look it up but what is the book these people Speek of. I saw the parallel worlds; Is it about That?
i probably would have slap the person right across the face.
not because they were rude, but to wake them up and be like WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?seriously, a genius was standing in front of them and they didnt even appreciate his beautiful music!
hopefully he will come to the uk again, i didnt know of him the last time he was here, heck i didnt even listened to english language music -_-
but Mr. E changed me:)i will do anything in my power to see him when he does come back!
My Bad! I was looking at last years tour dates! Which is a shame because I really want to see the band... Last years dates have now been removed from the official site, so hopefully some new dates for 2009 will be announced soon.
He is amazing live, a crowd of all types of personalities, all silenced by this mans ever positive outcome on life, if his approach or his book cant help you nothing can. You will love every minute when you get to see him!
I know someone who went to an EELs gig (I was kicking myself for not getting tickets in time) and apparently he hates clapping and cheering - actually he got really pissed off with the crowd. He shouted: "This ain't a football match you know!" (this was his UK tour)
Also sometimes he does really different stuff with violins, so I guess it depends what mood he's in...
@fayettevillewino All artists can't be like Mr. E, because most people have had ordinary lives with loving parents through a big part of their life. Poor E lost his mother, father and sister at a pretty young age. He has more life experience that most artists these days.
I just discovered this group by watching PBS's NOVA last night (love them). I was really moved by it. His father was a brillant physicist and apparently most of his family suffered from emotional problems. A.S. wasn't mentioned, but if you can catch that NOVA you'll really get some insight into this man and just why his music is so deep and poignant.
Pretty sure it doesn't, but as somebody who, like E, has battled depression for all of his years, I can say with confidence that this song is about finding your way out of a tangle of anxiety and horror.
the book is SO good - i couldnt put it down, read it in 2 days... :) i never knew about E or the Eels before and i fell in love with him as soon as i read the first page.. :)
The book and the song show a bit of a parallel, you'd see a lot of the song in the book, and vice versa. Both beautiful things from an incredibly intellectual and surreal songwriter and musician.
@LaylaM0MMY I think the Eels are superb, got to say it doesn't bother me at all that others don't rate them - it is their loss - a very Eels-like situation that don't you think?
definitly the best band ever. i wish i had seen the documentary, but thats what happens when you live in america. you get hannah montana, not mark oliver overett.

It's just that time finally ran out. No matter what happens, always hold your f***ing head high!!
right on old guy!! fuck yes...reading this comment really made my day, and i'm not sure why...and it's night...but hey! i'm going to bed psyched up. holding my f***ing head high! high five, let's have cider.
This is one of the things I love about E and Eels - Everyone is united in their opinions. I mean look at all the positive comments for once. This site is a breeding ground for ridiculous arguments but you very rarely get that on an eels video.
An amazing song. Buy his book " things the grandchildren should know " It chapters his rise and mostly falls, but his songs will take on a new meaning! Up until i read his book i was suicidal and have been for years, but it gave me a massive confidence boost! and things are now better than ever.

So in the end i'd like to say
That i'm a very thankful man

And i had some regrets
But if i had to do it all again
Well, it's something i'd like to do
