Aww it's really sad to watch I can't watch things like these(in full) because they make me really depressed, I end up being triggered and getting super depressed for days on end. If I was the camera crew I'd be doing everything I could(and shouldn't) to help...nature is far too cruel for my liking.
I remember hearing once one of the golden rules of filming wildlife is to simply observe and not get involved. Nature can be harsh and distressing, but hey thats life. Think of it this way perhaps, had the film crew intervened and perhaps rescued the cub it would only mean other animals along the food chain also miss out on a meal and go hungry. They have a chance for survival too. Besides who is going to look after and take care of a lame wild lion cub. You?.
So heart gripping .... Happy and sad all roles into 1 ...sad that the poor cub was so badly hurt u cud see the pain in the lioness eyes when she new she had to leave her.. that made me cry .... N how amazing it was to see her take on the giant Buffalo like it was pure revenge..... I would love to know how the young male cub is getting on .... Really amazing stuff .... Won't forget this movie ....
@kasainamata the crew never save animals they never do it this is not the first time a cub badly injured dies in another film the lion cub was abandoned and die. I watch a film when a healthy cub was abandoned then a leopard appeared because the cub is crying maybe she was going to adopt that cub but then fucking hyenas appearrf and the leopard runs like a bitch and yes they eat alive the cub
@jennydaang the only thing i dont like of the film is sometimes some footage is from another films and not of the same history for example the fight of the male lions
@jennydaang that´s right jenny i don´t know if you watched "african cats" of disney, i thought that will be new material forgive my languague but when i saw AC i think: WTF i watch this footage 2 years ago in natgeo wild disney robbed me don´t get me wrong i love this kind of movies but sometimes are the same footage over and over
@MrBeanerKiller No, I haven't watched the movie. But my friend says it's good, maybe I'll do some research on it later? I get what you mean, my reaction is the same sometimes: WTF? :)
This is a truly fascinating video! It is exciting, emotional, and visually stunning! You get a glimpse into how complicated the life of a lion can be! Watch this if you get a chance and help the lions while you're at it! Another extraordinary work by NG.
Even though I downloaded the whole documentary from torrents, I decided to buy this DVD from amazon for the cause of saving lions; and the other reason I bought this DVD was that the director has done an absolutely tremendous job in making this documentary and watching it from torrents wont do Justice in any way!!!! So all the guys like me (who download from torrent ) have some honour and plz buy the dvd !!!!!!!!!
@suzsiz I say help animals first i donate to multiple charities and i think help animals because humans are not going to go extinct for a very long time where lions, tigers ext are all endangered
@suzsiz You should help them BOTH. If even only half the world's population would give a dollar for every cause out there, the world would be a better place because there would be enough resources to save them all, humans and animals.
But since this is a video about lions, we should stick to lions on this page. You don't see people going on youtube pages for helping kids in poor countries posting comments about endangered animals, do you?
@ArchaelogistPhil I've seen both documentaries, as I love the footage, and fabricated or no, the threat of lions becoming extinct is very real. They are endangered, along with, amur tigers, leopards, snow leopards, silver backs, great whites, gray wolves, etc. The Jouberts are among the few people who haven't forgotten that we're supposed to protect these magnificent animals. So how are you helping exactly, unless you call flaunting your oh so keen sense of observation, help?
So very true. Whether or not this film is fabricated doesn't matter. What matters is: 1. It is a beautifully filmed movie and also captivating and thoroughly mesmerizing and 2. It brings awareness to a very urgent and important cause!! Bravo to the Jouberts for producing such a worthwhile film, and for all of their endless work to save the lions.
i cried on the scene when she had to abandon her cub bcuz it could not longer walk on all four legs then they wanna play that sad ass song along with it, it was a wrap for me i couldn take it
@ArchaelogistPhil Yeah, I noticed that as well in a number of scenes. At the same time though, Ma di Tau was apparently already living on Duba Island when ReEn was filmed, so it's not impossible that some of the scenes in that film featured her as well.
I watched this movie in nat geo wild a month ago and cried several times. as I want to become a conservationist someday this is the kind of movie that is perfect to watch. and yes the lions of this world need to be saved and we should all do our part in saving them. Help the lions .

Wow this looks amazing. Oh and did you guys know that Jeremy Irons was the voice of Scar in The Lion King and now he's narrating a lion movie? I just thought that was ironic ^^
Does anyone know how to contact the people at youtube to let them know there is something wrong with the view-counter?? It's been the same number of views for over a week now!
It's nature. Meaning its natural. Man, at his core, has the exact same survival instincts. We ravage & devour the resources of the earth the same as lions do their prey. Only difference is they do it for survival, we do it out of greed & ignorance. Do u not understand that all animals are part of delicate circle of life. Wake up

Stop portraying lions as the cuddly cute innocent victims here! Lions are vicious, dangerous killers and its natural selection at its finest! Lions are on the verge of extinctions because of numerous reasons, mainly because man has hunted them because they are so dangerous and are a threat to all animals! If they die off, good riddance!
What a gut wrenching story ! Motherhood is the same across all species. As a mother some scenes were too painful to watch. Cried copiously when the maimed cub was left behind. I still have my stomach in knots. Please ple..............ase let us save these beautiful and majestic cats.
I saw this movie the other night on Nat Geo Wild, & I have to admit, it's truly a wonderful film although, there was a small part of it that broke my heart, but unfortunately it does happen particlarly w/ cubs.
Anyway, we need to SERIOUSLY GET THIS THING GOING in order to save these truly magnificent creatures.
And I just want to say to the 13 people who DISLIKE this video, WOW! I have absolutely NO Respect for you...All you care about is YOURSELF & That's just plain SAD!

The new "African Cats by Disney" was really good except in the beginning when they used the ugliest king lion "Bane" w/ a huge broken tooth hanging from his mouth ..and the other tooth was so yellow I almost threw up b/c his mouth looked sooooo nasty lol
I know the scene you are referring to. I couldn't stop sobbing. It bothered me for days. I still cry when I think about it. I can't imagine filming that scene. Heart-wrenching.
The Last lions will be on Nat Geo! Nat Geo Channel Nov 13 at 8pm EST and then again on Nat Geo Wild on Dec 16, in conjunction with Big Cats Week. Mark your calendars!
When can we purchase the movie? I live on the Ohio/Michigan border and the closest the movie was playing was in Detroit which is 50 miles from my home. Why couldn't it have been shown in Toledo, Ohio?
it makes me sooo sad to think about how big cats are dieing jusk like dinosaures i want to do somthing so what i am going to do is "CAUSE AN UP ROAR"!!!
Can somebody please tell me where I can buy a DVD or purchased download of this film? Last time I checked Nat Geo doesn't ship these things out of America for Copyright purposes or something like that. I would really love to own my own copy of this film for my personal inventory!
@raphi2006 - It will come out on DVD & Blu-ray later this year --- rumor is an Oct. 18 release, but not sure on that... you should be able to get it then on Amazon as well as other retailers.
Scar knows what to do - push the barely surviving baby lions into the path of an oncoming stampede of wildebeest. Surely Tina Turner would've been a more respectful choice of narrator given her former glorious mane (not you Ike).
Seriously though, people who can eat at a time when lions are going hungry makes me even more sick.
@kcatromero If you are really interested in saving these beautiful cats, you need to PAY to see this film as part of your ticket goes to support conservation projects. People like you make me sick.
i think people all over the world, especially millionaires should donate or do something to save these big cats, especially the siberian leopard or tigers or some of which are seriously endangered
it makes me so sad that people actually kill these beautiful animals for status or pleasure or for moneyy . We need to stop people from killinq alll the biq cats .
@TheDeac65 I saw it when in first premiered earlier this year in Southern California. Unfortunately documentaries don't have extended runs in commercial theaters and it was gone after just a couple of weeks. It is beautifully filmed and memoraable. It will continue to haunt your thoughts for a long time after you've seen it.
@kopassz Evolution is illogical. A Creator is a lot more logical than something just happening out of pure explosion of molecules. As we've seen in the past, explosions do not cause order. This was still a beautiful movie though.
@OldshcoolTypeSoul I don't know why you think that evolution is an "explosion of molecules", because it is not. It is a very slow process indeed. On one hand it is very logical (survival of the fittest, adaptation) on the other hand random. Evolution exists because living things adapt. It does not have a goal, it is not a being, it does not have a mind. It is a complex of processes. In this way, you are right, it is not logical, as neither is beliving in a being you never saw
@linasofia71 dont worry every view counts, Youtube cant update every thousandth of a second(its impossible) so it will probably update after afew hours
It is so sad to know that we can spend millions going to the movies, in royal weddings, watching a reality show about nothing where nothing ever happens, and be unable to watch a 1 minute video to save some of the most amazing animals in the world, or to think, at least think, about the 780,000 children that are starving in Somalia. It is our decision to change this world and save it.
Almost forgot to watch this today. Making my earlier comment pointless. Then I remembered. So now I don't feel so bad.

When can we purchase the movie? I live on the Ohio/Michigan border and the closest the movie was playing was in Detroit which is 50 miles from my home. Why couldn't it have been shown in Toledo, Ohio?

@deanna1938 I've been waiting forever for a DVD release. I don't think they're going to do it. It's really sad.

Lol the narrator is the same person who did the voice of Scar in the lion king
Woeler3 5 months ago
@Woeler3
It is the voice of Jeremy Irons. ( awesome voice ). He also narrated the Joubert's other stunning film, "Eye Of The Leopard".

Can somebody please tell me where I can buy a DVD or purchased download of this film? Last time I checked Nat Geo doesn't ship these things out of America for Copyright purposes or something like that. I would really love to own my own copy of this film for my personal inventory!
This seems like such a great Doccie..
raphi2006 6 months ago
@raphi2006 - It will come out on DVD & Blu-ray later this year --- rumor is an Oct. 18 release, but not sure on that... you should be able to get it then on Amazon as well as other retailers.
robsall1 6 months ago
Scar knows what to do - push the barely surviving baby lions into the path of an oncoming stampede of wildebeest. Surely Tina Turner would've been a more respectful choice of narrator given her former glorious mane (not you Ike).
Seriously though, people who can eat at a time when lions are going hungry makes me even more sick.

anyone know where i can watch it online for free
kcatromero 6 months ago
@kcatromero If you are really interested in saving these beautiful cats, you need to PAY to see this film as part of your ticket goes to support conservation projects. People like you make me sick.

Has anyone been able to see the film yet?
TheDeac65 7 months ago
@TheDeac65 I saw it when in first premiered earlier this year in Southern California. Unfortunately documentaries don't have extended runs in commercial theaters and it was gone after just a couple of weeks. It is beautifully filmed and memoraable. It will continue to haunt your thoughts for a long time after you've seen it.

@Spookz47 I feel insulted when you don't appreciate nature's beauty but a god's. It's sad really.

@turreu Who said I didn't appreciate the beauty? Its my beliefs and I apologize if it offended you.

@Spookz47 It's evolution baby. But otherwise strongly agree...

@kopassz Holly Molly! u said the bad word! now you are going to hell haha
nikobolso 3 months ago
@kopassz Evolution is illogical. A Creator is a lot more logical than something just happening out of pure explosion of molecules. As we've seen in the past, explosions do not cause order. This was still a beautiful movie though.
OldshcoolTypeSoul 2 months ago
@OldshcoolTypeSoul I don't know why you think that evolution is an "explosion of molecules", because it is not. It is a very slow process indeed. On one hand it is very logical (survival of the fittest, adaptation) on the other hand random. Evolution exists because living things adapt. It does not have a goal, it is not a being, it does not have a mind. It is a complex of processes. In this way, you are right, it is not logical, as neither is beliving in a being you never saw
