  • Soulful man...his guitar tone is harsh..but soul is there.

  • most really young players dont understand its alot harder to play simple - soulfully - an amatuer plays everything they know ...all the time.. lol . Where a gifted player knows it isnt what he plays - its what he chooses not to play - the spaces show his soul

  • This is just fantastic, best performer i have seen in ages, voice, guitar, highs, lows, he has it all.

  • grest solo and artist, but i think that solo would sound better on a neck position (it's only my opinion), anyway he plays it great, I've got hope in his music and John Mayer ;)

  • Just saw him on the "red white and blues" special at the white house on PBS..where he and various artists performed for the president.

some of the other artists were Mick Jagger, BB king, Dereck trucks, Booker T..and others that i cant recall at this time..If you get the chance dont pass it up and watch it on your local pbs station.

  • He's my fucking man crush

  • Me slow dancing with my baby :-) to this song.

  • I would like to see him playing with BBking..they could make beautiful music together.

  • so nice i had to listen to it twice.

  • charlie jones on the drums!!

  • Don't know what led me to this site but, he's got a new fan! This guy's awesome!

  • how awsome to see a new face playing and singing his way to stardom .alot of raw talent here.just incredible.

  • Yeah man it's great that you know who Eddie Hazel is and of course Marvin Gaye this guy is what has been needed and missing in todays music now for so long a singer,a musician,a songwriter sincerity soul and pat your foot nod your head rhythm.

  • I was doing work while watching this and by the end of it I had completely forgotten everything I was doing.

  • I'm a old gezzer now i've been playing for years blues punk funk rock and r&b and this

is the man to carry the torch that the great that came before him bb king albert king

glen goines I'm just happy to see you mr clark you are long over due!!!!!!!

  • @octavelove hahahaha...so true. I just commented the same thing on in the comments for his :Bright Lights" performance at the Crossroads Festival. I'm 50 and I've been patiently waiting for someone like Gary Clark jr...for ages. Love this guy..

  • @Benji8461 Me too!

buy I am older than you..heheh..geezers rule! or do they?..heheh..

anyways i like that he can sing blues, rithym and blues, old school blues and of course he can rock!!!..this song reminds me of those old time slow jams.

    Best wishes

  • This guy is Marvin Clapton (Marvin Gaye + Eric Clapton)

  • Blown away

  • Reminds me a lot of Luther Allison.

  • thats a big damn stage. and he definitely fills it up

  • Aside from the fact that he's a great player, this guy proved me correct that the EPI Casino is a great "blues" guitar instead of just garage rock!

  • Mmmm, when can we expect a full album?

I've already got his self-titled and the Bright Lights EP, but I need more! MOAR!!

  • Stunning Soulful singing and jaw droppingly soulful guitar solo! Wow

  • Like Al Green and Jimi Hendrix rolled into one. Beautiful.

  • this guy has so much potential

  • average not very good guitar player (as in no real touch, no vibrato on bends, does not have it), not great technique and sloppy, bending off key, nothing drop jaw as a blues player. Also, the Casino is not the guitar to be bending on because of the tail piece. I blow this guy away, not arrogance and I should be at Crossroads over him..

  • @tele757 Sorry, went to your page, you don't have any videos. Post something so we can judge for ourselves. Any ass-hat on the web can spout off a bunch of jargon and claim to be this or that. Anyone who knows anything about music knows it not all about "Technique." For fucks sakes, the whole base of blues is to oppose "the standard " and "technique" Gary is making noise for a reason and you are at home ,bitter, on your Keyboard watching him for a reason. Good luck with your "career" though.

  • @agrippa45 you heard my critique, and it was not about you personally-so why do you persist. I guess I have better ears than you. live w it.

  • @tele757 Cool story, bro.

  • @agrippa45 coming from a rap fan, (which you are) your advice on rock guitar means soo much

  • @tele757 I suppose you think Eric Clapton would pick you to come on tour with him as well? He might not be the best guitar player around (although I think he is very good) but I'm willing to bet he's got more soul in his index finger than you do in your body. The fact that he's there and you're on YouTube hating on him proves that without a doubt. And yes that was completely arrogant and probably what's holding you back...Good luck with whatever it is you want to do in music with that attitude.

  • @VuduChild1970 I doubt that, I coulkd prove it, But why would fucking care what some anonymous person on the internet cares, Its not like you are some hot chick I am looking to screw. Don't you think the ownus is on you to show that there aren't better guitarist out there, since your little feelings got hurt, you really think I am motivated to win the heart of some douche

  • @VuduChild1970 i have played with Haynes and Robbie Robertson in the 80's at Triad, and with him for many years my boy. Its f funny, I usually hang up whenever I get a cold call from a sales guy, usually its someone wants to manage my stock portfolio, and i usually hang up because I have someone already. But , I do realize that sometimes that I am hanging up on someone who may well know what they are doing.

  • @tele757

Shut the fuck up idiot!!! How much fucking dribble and blah, blah, blah you got in you? Just respond, blah, blah, blah... I'm stupid. I'm not a smart man. That's all you need to say.

  • Comment removed

  • @VuduChild1970 a bet based on incomplete information. There are no opponents here man, just you. Name 3 American fuzz tones, what pedals? What was Hendrix best work?

  • @VuduChild1970 since you put it out there, yea he would, because I play as well as him, imagine that, But would I just have to better than Gary, Lets just say I am in the Clapton camp. Clapton went with Derek Trucks, Crowes went with Page (not the Keys)

  • @tele757

    30% technique (or less)

    70% soul

in my opinion this is the music

the music needs technique obviously, but is not the only thing that the music needs

  • @tele757 no body gives a fuck about your supposed technical skill or knowledge or perfection of playing the guitar. This music is fucking great. Got soul, got feeling, got passion. You can tell it means something to him and it translates to the fans... You can read all the books about playing guitar, learn all the little tricks, but you will never be the musician that Gary Clark Jr is. He's got a gift, hes got soul. You just got a big mouth.

  • @tele757 Honestly who knows. maybe you are a better guitar player than Gary. You have no vids to prove your not. But who are you to judge what someone can or can't do and whos better than who? Funny thing about is while your on your computer talking about how much better your are than Gary. Hes up on stages performing in front of thousands of people diggin his music. I know I dig his music.

  • WOW. Just heard about him a few weeks ago and I can't get enough. GCJr. is a mix of Motown, Muddy Waters, and Prince. Himself, The Black Keys and Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears are the best things going right now.

  • @JTM4310 you must not be a great blues guitar player or have baseline to make a comparison, to say this

  • He's going to get better and be right there with the BEST!

  • Jeff buckley influence much?

  • @benguyondavis More like Smokey Robinson.

  • i cant stop watching this. this solo is like a lesson in guitar playing for me. it tells a story and doesnt sound eager. it starts off smooth and takes us on a rollercoaster of pure emotion

  • Awesome, Beautiful !

  • very cool.

  • come on man its unfair to see bieber and gaga with millions of views and pure talents like this one with only a few thousands....its a shame...cant people see??? Its clear...Thank you youtube for giving us the chance to listen to good music...if we left it to radio and MTV we would be braindead by now

  • He's got so much soul, watch his face during the solo, you can see it

  • If this isn't best live guitar solo since Hendrix was playing, then I don't know what is.

  • how could you not be reminded of jimi when you hear this... brilliant

  • @ masquecassete:

I believe it's simply guitar volume and a Vibro King amp.

  • Unreal !!! :D

  • Does anybody know what is the pedal he uses in the solo?

  • blacks ... always surprising me

  • only real hard players play the gibson es 335, like freddie n bb, sick tone

  • they say it's not about the guitar, it's about the guitarist

  • So much soul.

  • que hueva, tiene bonita voz, pero sus arreglos, no tienen la mayor importancia. 1 o 2 círculos armónicos zzzzzz zzzzzzz

  • @ EK is always about the player my man. That's a stock Epi too.

  • Bloody hell I wish I could make my Epiphone Casino sound like that. Amazing

  • GARY CLARK JR IS GOD!!!

  • making baby music right there shitt

  • this is fucking brilliant. I'm 16 and most of today's music is utterly horrible, but this guy is incredible. His solos in this remind me of eddie hazel, and his voice sounds like marvin gaye, what a combination

  • @boudroxycut well im 7 years old and i can play better than you

  • @boudroxycut im glad to know that there are other 16 yr olds that enjoy the fine souls of eddie hazel and marvin gaye. most kids our age dont even know who those people are, and it makes me sad hahah

  • @boudroxycut keep playing, my young friend. Listen to them all. When you get into a rut, learn a Kenny Burrell tune or Villa-Lobos or Joe Pass or Buddy Guy or whoever, but stay true to yourself. Mr. Clark is a breath of fresh air not because he is great, but because he is real, IMHO. //2 cents.

  • This guy is flat out one of the most amazing musicians i've ever ever heard, has a unique sound that is truly one of a kind, I can't wait to hear what records he'll make in the future

  • What can I say? If you have ever missed someone, this song goes deep inside you. Nice change from his usual heavy blues. This artist reminds me of New Orleans in the mid sixties when I heard a guy named Jimmy for the first time. Garys good! What do you think Dianne?

  • damn that shit made me teer up...

  • at about 3:45 when he unleashes, I melt into my chair.

  • He got the soul that 'll make Jesus come into your heart

  • Idk but I think this is the second coming of Jimi Hendrix

  • I played the video and when it ended, I thought to my self, SNAP Its finished. So, I had a great Idea, I played it again. Good music.

  • I could listen to this all day!!! fuckiing beautiful sound/

  • great falsetto

  • This guy has the most aggressive, spine-crushing tone.

  • If you're on a blues kick and want to see the best up and coming player do yourselves a favor and check out Scott Sharrard - he is gregg allmans guitar player and search for him playing bad romance by lady gaga with his band... thats where it's at!!!

  • wow this dude kills it. Been on a blues kick lately and just found him and now I cant stop listening

  • If this isn't best live guitar solo since Hendrix was playing, then I don't know what is.

  • And yes, I'm putting Gary Clark Jr in that conversation already.

  • @bgiglio and you should. he has a similar style and similar soul. not nearly as good of a guitarist but he blows jimi's voice out the water

  • damn this is awesome and disagree with me if u want for saying this, but, i havent been that into a recent guitar player's solo since watching john mayer.

  • This is frikin gorgeous. This guy is so diverse! He can rock the place down, or just make you want to kiss your girlfriend haha

  • un-believable how smooth this dude is... wow

  • Its like the black Jeff Buckley, but alive. You better record than one album motherfucker! I'm counting on you!

  • Wow!!! my new favorite!!

  • grandioso

  • @jmoralesr3 Desde que lo vi en el DVD "crossroads" he buscado toda su musica.

    Exelente artista/guitarrista..

    saludos

  • Gary Clark Jr is simply amazing! So versatile with his styles of music and vocals. Most definitely an inspiration for any guitarist (including myself).

  • Epiphone Casino is a Classic Guitar man. Lennon used to play one like this.

  • sounds like hendrix when he says that opening bit. play totally different though. love the vocal riff at the end.

  • outstanding performer

  • such a unique sound

  • see him live...its amazing....bring your lady...

  • I saw this performance...it was magical...so glad we still have artists like this

  • I wish I could 'like' this song more than once! Amazing combo of soft vocals and shredding guitar! Would love to see him live!

  • Come to Portugal! PLEASE!!!!

  • saw him in truro !!! amazing singer/guitarist !

  • Seeing him this Friday in Toronto! I honestly can't wait!

  • so good, hes gonna get real big real soon

  • @TheBigdummi no doubt!

  • @TheBigdummi and he's not now? look at how many people he's playing in front of - looks big to me!

  • @vibroluxor lol other than crossroads this is prob his biggest show yet, this was just one set for a weekend festival.

  • @TheBigdummi Actually his biggest gig was a performance at the white house recently

it was shown on PBS..among the performers was BB king Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger and others.."red white and blues" is the name of the show and they will probably show it again..

    Best wishes

  • Saw him on the Crossroads 2010 and blown away. Great musician. Makes me want to find an Epi, Casino to learn those chops.Wonderful voice.

  • @EKWalmsley

Probably the only guitarist that's made me think about picking up an Epiphone, lol.

  • @chrisdgoldie Lol I agreee!

  • @chrisdgoldie yep, is an endorsement!

  • @chrisdgoldie Epiphone arent bad at all. Ive played epiphones that play and sound better than my LP standard

  • @chrisdgoldie Epiphone has some higher end models and there regular fare are not bad for the price.

  • Saw him on the Crossroads 2010 and blown away. Great musician. Makes me want to find an Epi, Casino to learn those chops.

  • he is absolutely amazing ....soothing voice and beautiful personality.........very kind man!
