I"m currently on a quest to listen to the so called Grammy Award for Album of the Year. I'm doing this because I don't want to be an ignorant tool who rejects a band because he's never heard of them. I'm Canadian and I've never even heard of them until the Grammy's. I'm finished the quest now and I am not convinced. This album has only made it as high as #52. It is a joke. The singer sucks and all the instrumentation is plain as prison walls. The lyrics do not say anything,,,
@Althalus1990 All the facts that you said about Arcade Fire are false. The Suburbs debuted at #1 on the Irish Albums Chart, the UK Albums Chart, the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and the Canadian Albums Chart. And if you think that that the singer sucks, the instrumentation is plain as prison walls, and the lyrics don't say anything, then you are probably too used to listening to mainstream rap and hip hop crap to understand what real music is.
I think this is one of the best album finishers ever conceived. It's sums up the album and continues the emotions and feelings so perfectly. Nostalgic, beautiful, and unforgettable.
This song always gets me. It gives me the chills... the best kind. :)
This song always makes me wish I were with my dream boy in a field of flowers. Dressed in vintage clothes. Laughing and enjoying each others company. Oh, I can dream. <3
@Myworld1916 So true. This song in particular fills me with irrelevant nostalgia -yearning for a past that I am not really aware of... or maybe just sad the album has played through >.<
listening to this just makes every muscle in my body just stop doing anything and completly relax.. makes you want to just slowly fade away into a little imaginary world
Actually I think the short running length is perfect and probably deliberate when you consider the subject matter of the lyrics. The song, like life itself, ends too fast.
Possibly the most perfect piece of artistic expression in contemporary music.
@DrNikui:You know why he said it well?He knows how to use rhetoric. He is in fact feeding you
a well constructed lie.He is testing is ability to foster amicable relations by analyzing an argument over the song and by giving into both sides by compromising and adding some run-of-the-mill existential psychological bull,he garners your faith. Reject Arcade Fire. Send them back to my homeland from whence they came. They are my fellow citizens, and I wish to sentence them to silence.Reject Arcade Fire.
I also wish this were longer. It's just too fucking good!
I went on a road trip this summer all across America, and it was 1:00 at night in the middle of desolate Wyoming when this last song of the album came on. There was something so peaceful and sad about that moment, about knowing that soon I would be going home. I can't explain it, but it was a moment where the music was so perfect for what I was feeling that I will never be able to forget it.
If I could have it back, all the time that we wasted, I would only waste again=Despite the mistakes we make in life, and and the difficulties, you would love to do it again and again.
@iSykeZ i know :( i wish it went for at least another 2-3 minutes. Had the potential to build into a great great song. It's still good, but just too short
@iSykeZ I feel a more appropriate title for this track would be "The Suburbs (Reprise)". We are treated to the slow humming of melancholy strings, followed by lyrics which offer a brief summation of what we've experienced throughout the album, and then it finally concludes with a reprise of the opening track's chorus and musical phrasings. It evokes such a sense of longing in me - a combined feeling of remorse and serenity. It's haunting. What an excellent way to end the album.
If Sprawl II is the big send-off with a crowd of cheering people, then this is that "someone special" saying their last goodbye. The perfect conclusion to a perfect album.
this was playing during the intro of their set in austin a few months ago. i wanted to see them again, and again, and again...

i agree it should be longer, but it leaves you wanting, which is neat because it symbolizes some of the albums themes (i.e. nostalgia).
