  • stupid video!!

  • Is that Indicator originaly for Westinghouse?

  • OMG there was a floor 13

  • The floor indicator is an incandescent projection display here. There is a light bulb, a lens, and a small slide for each possible digit. In effect, it works as a small slide projector, projecting from behind onto a piece of ground glass.

  • 34Th FLOORS! What so higher tower of the building to use it elevator!!! Amazing!

  • Awesome elevator! :D

Nice to see it in good condition for that kind of age. :D

  • No 4 but 13?

  • strange, is'nt it???

  • Amazing floor indicator. I love pre-Series 1 Otises. I think the round blue turquoise indicator was designed to be a retrofit replacement to this indicator.

  • @ revo8778: The buttons might be modernized.

  • Yes, but OTIS didn't modernize them! I believe those are MAD fixtures. I guess the hotel wanted to update their image with new buttons in the cabs but was, fortunately, cheap enough to leave in the old Rotodial.

  • If you go to Intercontinental Hotel in South Korea, there is

one particular elevator (im sure its OTIS, anyway,)

if you start from 1 and press 46?7?

    The numbers go like:

    2..4..6..8..10..14..18..23..27..34..44..46

    ITS FREAKIN CREEPY

  • I bought a T-Shirt at this hotel, Miami is da bomb!

  • The disappearing indicator is actually called a "rotodial" indicator. It was an Otis invention, but, somehow, pre-Schindler Westinghouse managed to eek out a similar design.... I won't go into a full explanation of how they work here unless someone says they want to know. :-)

  • I'd like to know...

  • I'd like to know...

  • I'd like to know...

  • I could really care less...

  • I remember ones that were similar, but you could tell the numbers were in a circle because you could see the numbers move sideways before the light turned off and back on.

  • what is an inclinator?

  • Go to google, and find out.

  • Is another name for Hotel Intercontinental the Four Seasons Hotel. If so, is it that same place with the high-speed KONE elevators.

  • Why do they call that the dissapering indacatior?

  • Because the numbers "disappear" while changing.

  • The floor number '4' is skipped, probably because it's a restricted level.

P.S. The Google ad panel here shows an ad about a special type of elevator which only the really wealthy have access to -- an inclinator. There's one, and only one, of such in Hong Kong. That's the 'Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery' on the hill next to Sha Tin Station. But I can't find a video of it, sorry.

  • Inclinators are rare in the US. A famous example is the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, which has inclinators made by Otis - v=qXguIgLqOHY

  • 13th floor

  • Yeah that disappearing indicator is cool.

I would think it would've gone at least a little faster seeing as it serves 34 floors.

  • This video is good. I love Miami.

  • Meh - Atlanta is better.

  • If there is a wheel in the indicator with numbers, it must spin very fast since you can't tell that it spins in the video. Maybe there is a bulb attatched to each number.

  • This practice is also used in old elevators manuafactured in the U.K.

  • I wonder how those scrolling floor indicators work.. is there a rotary piece inside or something>

  • Yes.

  • They work of the shaft information, this could be a tapehead, or selector, which suplies the controller with information.

  • What happened when you pressed P?

  • ???

  • There's a button next to 3 marked P.

  • sounds like montgomery, even though it said OTIS.

  • Very nice elevator.

  • When I stayed here a couple years ago, they still had the original 1970's buttons and no floor chime. Looks like they did a bit of work since then!

  • There is no 4th floor.

  • 4=P. And what in the world is it? I dunno.

  • Pool?

  • very nice stainless stell brails

  • How fast does it go?

  • About 750 FPM.

  • Or more exactly, 700-800 FPM.

  • Very nice, and very fast. I really like the green buttons, and those floor indicators are like the UT Tower elevators.
