You're not making yourself clear. It seems you mean Windows can run any OS (through virtual machines), therefore implying Mac OS cannot. Were that your meaning you would be incorrect as there are at least 3 different solutions for this on Mac OS (Parallels, VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox), many ways to easily port Windows programs to Mac OS yourself (Wineskin/darwine) and an inbuilt ability for a Mac's EFI to emulate the antiquated BIOS for Windows to provide a multi-boot solution.
@alexvasilenko14 LMAO. Notice the date on that? 01/18/2005. Unless you have actually set up a working PearPC emulator (which I have) or even know what it is, don't comment.
If you want to run MacOS 10.3 an operating system released over 7 years ago, have it take 5 minutes to boot, be totally unusable and completely illegal then yes you can count PCs as running all OSes.
A better example would have been the OSX86 project but again, not a very stable solution.
I will buy a Mac when I can go somewhere like newegg, choose high quality parts for myself, and then built it myself. One of my best friends spent over $2000 on his desktop. If he would have let me build it for him it would have cost less than $700. That is almost three times as much for non upgradeable hardware. That is a failure of overwhelming proportions. All the hate for PC with its so called crashes, constant problems, etc etc... are 99% user error. All Mac does it sell smug elitism
@MrClarkisgod A computer from anywhere is going to cost more than building your own. Factor in designing, testing, building and shipping a whole computer and the price difference is more than justified. With Apple doing all these things at a high quality level and shipping a product with premium hardware and software, the reason for the price difference quickly becomes apparent. If your friend is under the impression his Mac is un-upgradeable he has been mislead by your prejudice assumptions...
@MrClarkisgod Macs are at least as upgradeable as any laptop, as you would expect from a computer that takes up as little room as possible. This means RAM, hard drives and sometimes processors are easily upgraded. But someone who buys a computer with motherboards, PSUs etc that are custom parts and expects to be able to upgrade them is a moron. I wouldn't say I hate PCs, if it wasn't for the nostalgia I would have almsot forgot they exist! What I hate is the ignorance of the people who buy them.
@MrClarkisgod I can assure you I am a highly experienced Windows user, although XP and down only as for obvious reasons I don't use Vista or 7! The problem of Malware does come down to user error (ignorance) for the most part (not being able to spot suspicious files, websites e.t.c.) and it is difficult to see how this won't be a problem for ever on all OSes. But Windows is thrown together like Frankenstein's monster and it's easy to leverage such software to take down the whole OS.
@MrClarkisgod And "so called" crashes and constant problems are not just something conjured up they are very real. Windows is crap, get over it. Crappy hardware makes it worse but most people do buy crappy PCs. Macs are not without crashes but I have only ever had two kernel panics on Mac OS and one of which was caused by third party software. Compare that to the thousands of BSOD screens I have had to indure and we're on a ratio in the region of 2000:1. The numbers speak for themselves!
@luke255 windows has BSODs on third party software to. i NEVER recall once having a BSOD that wasn't third party( i have used windows for over 8 years). so mac and windows are even on that one.
@komahoby Lucky you! And you say they are even, as far as you are concerned? That obviously means you have been using a Mac for 8 years also so you can make that fair assessment?
@MrClarkisgod To suggest that myself and every Mac user are smug elitists is completely ridiculous. YOU must feel pretty smug knowing every Mac user and their complex personalities. If I am a smug elitist who is technically homeless, working part time on minimum wage then I think I'm doing it wrong. Don't worry though, I am very healthy and happy. If I were a PC user however my health and happiness would be extremely jeopardized.
You're talking about me making innaccurate assumptions. How can you prove a $2000 HP wouldn't last as long. You guys get so offended because you got ripped off when you bought a Macintosh that your criticize people who buy a better deal.
@luke255 dude give it up mac sucks and they can last for only 4 years is what the mac people told me when i was buy an ipod and my 1242 dollar pc with a 3.4 ghz processor and ati hd5850 gpu 4gb of ram and 2tb hard drive with a custom tower an led samsung color enriched monitor and razer speaker system and razer mamba mouse and razer headsetcost all together about 2000 dollars and i also have a laptop with a 2.6 ghz cpu for only 400 dollars and they both by a long shot outperform the mac hardware
@Hayaishin Oh well now you've said that I guess I'll sell all my Macs and buy equivalent PCs!
Hardware is not OS specific. If you buy good hardware and run Windows on it it's still going to be good hardware, it's just going to be running a bastardised, paralysed and retarded operating system.
The problem with "PCs", the computers that the average user buys, is that the companies like: HP; Dell; Sony; all know that they don't have to bother putting decent hardware in because people won't know!
@Hayaishin Apple don't insult the intelligence of their users by cutting corners like this, in their hardware or software. They don't stand in the way of evolution by shunning more advanced and more expensive technology because the average user just wants a low price. They put what they think is the best stuff in.
Apple make an effort to make their software good on the outside and the inside too. A rewrite of Finder.app in cocoa? The "average user" wouldn't notice so Microsoft wouldn't do it.
@Hayaishin The only sensible options for PC users are Windows or Linux. These are two extremes of the scale and Mac OS is the best of both worlds: UNIX underpinnings with a UI that is attractive and understandable.
Windows has the monopoly for now, because the human race in general are painfully ignorant. They don't go into PC World and say "I'd like a computer that runs Windows because that is my favourite OS" they just pick the prettiest one or the one the sales person tells them to get.
@Hayaishin I can only presume English is not your first language but I wouldn't be surprised if it is...
There is no countdown timer in Macs that render them inoperable after exactly 4 years. Even the suggestion that this is a rough guideline for the longevity of Mac computers is laughable.
Hardware failures are what they are. A PC built from identical components as any given Mac computer statistically has the exact same chance of failure. To suggest otherwise is completely farcical.
@Hayaishin You are only human, you prefer PCs to Macs. No one can tell you otherwise and you are entitled to your choice.
The same way a man married to a beautiful, intelligent, kind, caring, funny, woman may choose to engage in sexual retaliations with inexpensive, disease ridden prostitutes. He may be convinced that this is for the best and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. Any counter statement would merely be opinion. Opinion doesn't stop the man catching STIs though...
@Hayaishin I'm not saying Macs are perfect. I find the start up chime obnoxious and annoying, build to order RAM is unusually costly unless you factor in the price of a qualified technician fitting it for you and repackaging the computer. Yeah that's all I couls really think of!
I am of the opinion that technology in general is far behind where it should be. Why do things still have cables? Why do computers crash? But in an imperfect world, the Mac is the best of the bunch...and then some.
@luke255 and that is why you fail because you say mac is the best when they are really polished turds scamming you out of you money with promises not kept like never gets viruses and never crashes. windows does everything a mac does only faster and better and more customizable and easier.
Even if you had measured that accurately I can be confident your OS didn't include the same amount of features Mac OS has and that your "Hewlett Packard" is of considerably lower build quality than your $2000 Mac
$1500 lower? Doubt it. If your Mac is 4 times the price is should go 4 times faster and last 4 times longer. Doubt that will happen (especially since it would be outdated by that time and be used as a doorstop).
PS What is up with Macs using Intels? Are you F-ing kidding me?
If you want a sports car you don't buy a 6cyl mustang, you save up for the 8cyl shelby cobra. Same with computers, look what's under the hood just because its 2ghz with 4g of ram doesn't mean shit if it's a crap processor running older ddr2 with slow L2 cache with integrated graphics chips. If you want to wax intellectual with the subject then get all your pc facts straight and admit to the substandard stuff you're getting for your 1/3rd of the price.
because 70% can't afford quality. Apple could buy cheaper components and build flimsy plastic machines but they don't. Why? Because they refuse to compromise quality for savings. I'm proud to say I paid over 2600.00 for a macbook pro 2.66, 4g ddr3, 320 7400 speed drive 512 of dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 9600m GT. Blows windows benchmarks away on systems who try to set up the same. Do the research. The os squeezes every ounce of power out of what it utilizes. You get what you pay for people.
Macs are not for retards. How dare you say that. You may prefer Windows, or Linux. Have you ever got a retard to use a mac? For gods sake, GET A LIFE AND EVEN MORE, KEEP YOUR DUMB OPINIONS TO YOURSELF. And, anyway, I think you just got 0WNED. :P
