i was thinking the same thing about the possibility of the posted left leg. why dont you grab the left leg? what can he do with the right leg to stop the sweep? it seems like grabbing the left leg would be the better option ...
This is money. Tried it today and worked on two out of three guys. The third guy was too big and strong. I didn't even get the finer points right but it worked like a charm.
1. I reach my left arm across my face, strongly pressing against the back of his head. If his head is left straight, he is strong. If his head is pressed to the side, he is weak.
2. My head is trapping his arm under my neck, strongly, limiting his ability to reposition in transition.
3. The timing of the sweep doesn't have your arm across there for long before you roll him.
IMO there is a better barrel role for no gi that has different set up. I cant find a video but if a do ill message you. Its more based on under/over hooks.
What would you do if the guy on top posted his left leg out to stop the roll?
This is an honest question - this is my goto move from side control but it only works on about half the guys I roll with, and sometimes Im just in North/South position.
That's a definite risk. His posted leg might kill this escape, but if you bridge hard, you might overcome it. Nothing is 100%, so be ready to fight hard for another escape if this fails.
hi, ive been trying this escape a lot lately, and have adjusted it a little to great effect for wen the person posts out with their near side leg. When you run to north south after grabbing their belt- instead of reaching through to the far side ankle, go around their near side leg then grab the ankle This way he cant post it out and you still have the other eleen of the sweep.
take a look at north south escape from takedown101. on you tube and that will give you a variation move. if you try to roll him with this move, and you end up in north/south again try that reversal and it will work!!! : )
do a barrel roll!

Looks like flexibility in your obliques and core strength are really important here.

Could you grip the pants around the knee or below instead of hooking the ankle?

I like it but fear the head and arm choke if against a strong opponent.

Preventing the choke is simple for 3 reasons:
1. I reach my left arm across my face, strongly pressing against the back of his head. If his head is left straight, he is strong. If his head is pressed to the side, he is weak.
2. My head is trapping his arm under my neck, strongly, limiting his ability to reposition in transition.
3. The timing of the sweep doesn't have your arm across there for long before you roll him.

if he posted his left leg out, would it be possible to roll him over his shoulder. since his arm is already trapped.
