Very good story. He even said his recruiter was pretty honest! But a lot of soldier's get bamboozled once they sign those papers. It's like they can do whatever they want because you belong to them. I believe in you take care of your troops and treat them right you'll get the same respect and hard work from them. That's why the Army has so many suicides. It's not just PTSD (for some it is), but it's way more than that...

That's not true. Even though I joined the Army for college they do some grimey stuff and have loop holes for everything. Yeah I knew I would deploy and that's fine I was over there in 2007 for 15 months but I hate it when Vet's get injured and they don't want to do nothing for them. My brother was one of those people. It's like they turn on you once your in and they can treat you anyway they want. I'm anti-war but our troops need so much support. We deal with and see alot on a day to day basis.
Here's a typical kid out of high school who "did it for the money". I've seen so many of these guys in and out of my company, so many that should not be there. Do it for self discipline and experience. If you don't want that then don't join or you will be hating life.

It was the day-to-day b.s. like leaders not taking care of their troops, crooked chain of commands, miscommunication in the unit that made me so bitter with the military. Deployment was the least of my problems! But thank you for your comment. Young people need to research like crazy before they make a life long commitment like the military.
I hate professsinal soldiers, the soliders who sign up for there pay and for military benifits and then witness the hardships of war and then complain about it. The real soldiers are the men who have an established lifes and famliys and leave them not for working over seas but who take up arms for the flag and only the flag like the men in the Civil War, they are REAL soliders .
I joined for college money and travel. I also started to hate it once I got to my 1st duty station (& learned the real about 9/11). The deployment wasn't too bad, but the leaders that are in the Army now are terrible! My sgt over there always had our life on the line over there. You don't want a leader like that over you. + the military docs SUCK! I would rather pay $ every month for health ins. and know I have a good doc instead of getting Vitamin-M and sent on my way!
i also join the s.c. national guard in 2007 and when i got home from basic and ait i started studing 911 and our gov. this lasted for almost 3 years up until i went awol and recieved a general discharge in 2010 im currently paying back about $800 of my bonus and i had to use fafsa loans to go to school and payed a good bit out of pocket if u are thinking about joining PLEASE DONT its the biggest load of crap iv ever seen

The "enemy" is out there somewhere, not within our own system.
Now the US monopoly of wealth after WWII is well over, and now that Germany & Japan are back in competition, it is back to business as usual, except worse. At least, before, most Americans were OK with living modestly, even poorly, as long as they had shelter and food and could save a little to help their kids. But now, we've been sold on the "credit system" and most Americans are living beyond our paychecks. The "happy days" prosperity is gone for good under the current economic system.
I'm an American & love the land that the US now occupies. Why does the government get Americans all "patriotic" about all the wars, esp. since the standoff in Korea?? To divert from the domestic problems. I was born/ grew up in "happy days" time of US history, after WWII until the mid-1970's. The middle class was very prosperous and strong, but that was the only time, in the entire history of US. Most of US history, most Americans have been quite poor, but not destitute.

haha this guy is just stupid. you don't use the military as a way to pay for college. it is a great opportunity but the national guard is one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer so it is pretty light. however, in the contract it explicitly says that you may be deployed. you join the military because it is something that is right for you and is a crucial aspect to our survival as a country not for the money. you fucked up and no one should feel sorry for you

Very good story. He even said his recruiter was pretty honest! But a lot of soldier's get bamboozled once they sign those papers. It's like they can do whatever they want because you belong to them. I believe in you take care of your troops and treat them right you'll get the same respect and hard work from them. That's why the Army has so many suicides. It's not just PTSD (for some it is), but it's way more than that...

That's not true. Even though I joined the Army for college they do some grimey stuff and have loop holes for everything. Yeah I knew I would deploy and that's fine I was over there in 2007 for 15 months but I hate it when Vet's get injured and they don't want to do nothing for them. My brother was one of those people. It's like they turn on you once your in and they can treat you anyway they want. I'm anti-war but our troops need so much support. We deal with and see alot on a day to day basis.

It was the day-to-day b.s. like leaders not taking care of their troops, crooked chain of commands, miscommunication in the unit that made me so bitter with the military. I joined for college money and travel. I also started to hate it once I got to my 1st duty station (& learned the real about 9/11). The deployment wasn't too bad, but the leaders that are in the Army now are terrible! My sgt over there always had our life on the line over there. You don't want a leader like that over you. + the military docs SUCK! I would rather pay $ every month for health ins. and know I have a good doc instead of getting Vitamin-M and sent on my way!

i also join the s.c. national guard in 2007 and when i got home from basic and ait i started studing 911 and our gov. this lasted for almost 3 years up until i went awol and recieved a general discharge in 2010 im currently paying back about $800 of my bonus and i had to use fafsa loans to go to school and payed a good bit out of pocket if u are thinking about joining PLEASE DONT its the biggest load of crap iv ever seen

The Taliban were also the representative government of Afghanistan (not actually the goverment as they only controlled the major cities and not the more populated tribal areas) and not involved in Iraq in any way. Only about 1-5% of us will acchieve, or have the luck, to be very prosperous. The rest of us will decline in economic stability, wanting more than ever because we've gotten used to it, myself incl. The US system of capitalism needs radical reform to ever have the American dream of a strong, not tottering, middle class. Wars take the citizens focus away from that. The "enemy" is out there somewhere, not within our own system.

Now the US monopoly of wealth after WWII is well over, and now that Germany & Japan are back in competition, it is back to business as usual, except worse. At least, before, most Americans were OK with living modestly, even poorly, as long as they had shelter and food and could save a little to help their kids. But now, we've been sold on the "credit system" and most Americans are living beyond our paychecks. The "happy days" prosperity is gone for good under the current economic system.

I'm an American & love the land that the US now occupies. Why does the government get Americans all "patriotic" about all the wars, esp. since the standoff in Korea?? To divert from the domestic problems. I was born/ grew up in "happy days" time of US history, after WWII until the mid-1970's. The middle class was very prosperous and strong, but that was the only time, in the entire history of US. Most of US history, most Americans have been quite poor, but not destitute.
