Venus conjoined the Sun on Jan 11th, and we saw a 6.5 quake off the coast of Eureka on the 10th and the hait quake on the 12th. The 1992 landers, CA quake occurred with Venus very near to its conjunction with the sun. The March 28, 2005 M 7.7 quake in Sumatra happened as Venus conjoined the sun.

An earthquake by itself, has never killed anyone.

It's the destruction of buildings and such, caused by earthquakes which does it.

Besides Pat Robertson tells us the reason the quake in Haiti happened was because the people made a deal with the Devil.

On the other hand, the quakes could just as easily be the Messiah's way of telling us that He's tired of everyone straying from Judaism. Or it could be Zeus's way of saying that He wants everyone to resume the beliefs of the ancient Greeks.

Whichever is the case, the God in question, whichever one that may be, could be bothered to find a clearer means of communication than just literally shaking things up.

What the kids did at 2:59 will do very little for their survival if the roof collapses. Your best bet is to roll into a ball beside a wall and the triangle pockets that are created will increase your chance of survival.

When you're talking about California, our infrastructure is a lot more earthquake stable than what Haiti had, of course. That said, it becomes falling objects that is the main hazard, especially in a crowded room. Students going under sturdy desks rather than all crowding in a corner is going to be more effective and safe, save for the very most Apocalyptic of earthquakes.

While a 7 would mean a certain extent of devastation in any area, California would be one of the safest places to have.

well that is the good thing that will come out of this. haiti will be re built with earthquakes into consideration. look at new orleans now with the rebuilding projects not even counting what the government is doing.

I don't know... unfortunately, Haiti does not have the vast riches we do, even in a depressed economy we still maintain building standards and requirements for safety. Haiti will likely rebuild exactly what they had before.... poor buildings build by poor people with what they have on hand. Its a sad fact that safety is also directly related to wealth, speaking about nations and natural disasters.

@dayati In a country prepared for great earthquakes it is helpful. I was in Santiago of Chile in 1985, when a 8.0 richter scale earthquake occurred, the result: 177 dead 1000+ injured.

When roofs don't collapse, because of the proper construction in a seismic zone, the prevention of injuries by falling lighter construction material (lights, cieling) becomes the main form of prevention.
