  • Fan subs and dubs are stupid in the first place.

  • Good I am glad this is here so listen up all of you who think fansubs and scanlation are all that because there free. They are ILLEGAL! It violates Federal Law piracy and or bootlegging is a federal crime. You may think you are not breaking any laws but you are. How do I know I enforce federal law I am also a fan of legal anime so if you crooks screw up my ability to watch anime I will hunt you down and bust you. Then you can think over how great fansubs are in prison.

  • @davismw2000 Also If you really WERE a us marshal, you'd also know that threatening people is against the law.

Or you are probably one of those faggots who are crazy with power, but the shit I can see you say in your youtube feed says otherwise.

Go preach to the AMV makers who are 1. stealing Anime clips and 2. stealing the music they use.

  • @AngelDouche66 First of all what I said isn't against the law. Second it's people like you who know absolutely nothing about the industry or federal law or international law that always writes about I can do whatever I want. There are consequences if you continue to break the law you will get busted understand. The industry and Japan are cracking down on fansub sites so watch while you can because soon you will be left with nothing.

  • @davismw2000 You are actually an idiot, also did you know its ALSO against the law to impersonate a police officer? Grats asshole you just broke another law.

  • OMG He looks like my grandfather O_o

  • @marzi2125 lol he is 41 lol

  • His voice, its,, Edward Norton..? O.O

  • @sleepsmoker No its Chrono

  • @marzi2125 Not the toons, he sounds like another actor.

  • I'm sorry if this sounds stupid or ignorant, but I am genuinely confused and don't understand. He's talking about people uploading episodes onto YouTube and other Internet sites? Instead of watching them on tv? I've only been a fan of anime for about a year and I've just started getting interested.. But I first got interested by watching episodes on the Internet, but the first I watched was Ouran under Funimation.

  • @SoulSurfer8 He is talking the poeple that are watching fansubs or downloading anime in gerneral and not putting a dime into the industry.

  • @cickmore12 If they didn't do such a shitty job of dubbing these days we would prefer fansubs over their crappy dubs.

Also the internet is why anime and manga is growing in popularity en mass

  • @AngelDouche66 I would not even consider the people that only download anime ilegally even part of the anime fanbase but more like leeches, that want everything for free and what their doing is sucking the blood out the industry. It is not about whether their are good dubs or bad ones it is about anime itself. What are we doing to support the artisit or anime creator. Honetsly not all dubs are bad, it depends on what company is doing them. If done by Funimation it is going to be a good dub.

  • @AngelDouche66 Fansubs and fan translated manga are not translated by people who know Japanese I know Japanese I speak and even write in Japanese 95% of all fansubs are incorrect. The grammar is wrong and words are translated wrong. Studios have people who can understand Japanese so don't be talking about you know nothing about. Oh and by the way Fansubs and fan translated manga are illegal got it i am a U.S. Marshal and I will bust you

  • @davismw2000 Come at me bro

  • @davismw2000 You're full of shit on everything you just said. You have obviously watched either troll fansubs or ones from not good groups. The majority of fansub/scanlations are accurate. You're not a U.S. Marshall either. If you were then you know you can't bust somebody unless you have absolute proof.

  • @SoulSurfer8 Watching something under a license website like Funimation is okay, because it puts up episodes online so you can watch them for free to encourage you to buy the ligitamate article. It's websites that are in no way affiliated to the original company that make the problem, they download the anime and put it up for free, but give no money to the original companies, so that no one gets paid and the industry ends up drying up. The same thing is happening to manga.

  • implying america contributes big money to the anime market

  • He's Goku from Saiyuki!!!!

  • adult swim is horrible what happened to anime? it was my faverite thing now it realy hard to find

  • Sunday morning? Only? nonononono. wrong, wrong, wrong. This season alone has:

High School of the Dead on Monday

    Bleach on Tuesday

    K-On on Wednesday

Strike Witches and Ookami-san on Thursday

    Amagami SS on Friday

    Shukufuku no Campanella on Saturday

Seitokai Yakuindomo and Asobi ni Iku Yo on Sunday.

Apposed to popular belief, prime time for anime fans is midnight to 1:30, a show that is shown in the afternoon or prime time means they couldn't get the time when all the fans were watching.

  • @Cursefire greg talks out of his ass hardcore but this was in 2008

  • And now I shamelessly plug my facebook group. On facebook, I started a group called Save the Anime Industry Day. At first it was going to start off as a small "Buy one licensed product this day!" thing, just something small, but the great people who have joined are saying that's not enough. We need to do more. We are WILLING to do more. And I love these people.

  • But we really need to stop fan subs and fan dubs. Just removing the videos off Youtube and Onemanga isn't going to do much. On youtube, they'll just be put back up sometime later. And if it's not on onemanga, it's on mangafox or somewhere else. I personally LOVE what FUNimation has been doing lately, taking the Japanese versions and posting their OWN subs on their page after they have the license. More people should do this.

  • @Zouziiable

Why would you love it? It's only available to people in the U.S. and Canada.

  • @DrunkSamurai Wait, what are you talking about? What is only available in the US and Canada? (anime?, It shouldn't be that because there are South American Fans, and I know fans from places like Germany and Denmark...)

  • @Zouziiable You do realize that those fans most likely DL the fansubs right? Or even dubs. Streaming is blocked in most countries. So people have to resort to downloading.

  • @DrunkSamurai Well you obviously don't understand, so I'm not going to bother explaining.

    Have a good time, kid.

  • @Zouziiable Ok. I can see you're a troll who knows they are wrong but won't admit it. Have fun being wrong, moron.

  • @DrunkSamurai You know I think I would be able to at least tolerate you if you weren't such an arrogant jerk off. You can't admit when you're wrong so you always are right but guess what. You are always right but only in your own mind. To others who have a fully functioning brain we can clearly see the faults with what you say and how you are just a know it all but really like most know it alls you are ignorant of the subject you discuss and you show it.

  • @99Osen There is actually no fault in what I am saying. You're just stupid. Prove I am ignorant. I already proved people wrong many times about this shit.

  • @DrunkSamurai I'm sure you have. Btw did you know I have dreams where I prove people wrong about shit that I know nothing about also?

  • @99Osen That's a pretty cool story, bro. You are honestly a fucking idiot who doesn't know shit.

  • @DrunkSamurai You aren't the first person to say that and also you aren't the first to deny facts when they are right in front of you.

  • @99Osen There are no facts. You are making shit up again.

  • @DrunkSamurai Are you talking about an anime because if you are you are just talking out your ass like usual. I see you came here to show your ignorance as well.

  • It's true! D: The anime industry if failing! BAD. Because most people are watching their anime illegally and then are refusing to by the DVDs because "the Japanese versions are so much better" or "Why buy it when I can rip a decent quality version off the internet?" I can proudly say I haven't been reading or watching anime illegally for a little while now, and it's not bad, not at all. I actually started buying manga again, which is my favorite thing to do as an anime fan.

  • And you are just lying. Japanese anime fans don't buy anime? Check out the sales on Eva 2.2, if you would.

  • BULLSHIT! If anime does die in USA, it will NOT die in Japan. Get smaller? Maybe. Die? NO WAY IN HELL. Get off your high horse, USA.

  • I LOVE his voice like it's so recognizable and awesome and any anime I'm watching I instantly know who it is dubbing it.

  • Greg makes a good point, it tells you something when the japanese government is asking for assistance, however I still don't believe piracy is AS big as it's made out to be, when companies buy everything and assume it's going to sell when it doesn't, of course your going to go under.

  • god I live his voice!

  • Gotta laugh. Back in the old Usenet sub dub debates the dubbies would say how sub would die.

Now all anyone watches are fansubs.

  • The anime business shot itself in the foot.

Anime now is directed at casuals and it's the casuals who are doing the download damage.

It's the hardcore who were buying the stuff before anyone and gave the companies their start.

Don't believe me? When ADV released subbed Devil Hunter Yohko the dubbies, the casuals and the emo girls didn't buy it, the hardcore did.

So now the business has the casual audience they sucked up to. too bad they don't feel like paying for it.

  • Also, that article Greg was talking about by a guy named Zac. It was epic, that fansubber was totally pinned to the wall and even tried to back track and make himself sound better near the end, search zac bertschy doomsday edition on google to find it, it's an edition he wrote of Hello Answerman in 2007. Around that time Zac was writing a lot of stuff about fansubs and bootlegging in general because of the recent crash of Geneon USA, I recommend reading it at some point.

  • Anime on tv for Canada is probably worse then Adult Swim. The channel, YTV, that used to supply everything from Ghost in the Shell to Digimon, and had an anime block from 8pm to midnight on Fridays now only shows Naruto, Bleach, Pretty Cure and Pokemon, and every now and again Bakugan and Yu Gi Oh. I'm so disappointed, they used to show FMA, Inuyasha, Gundam SEED, and even showed Gundam Wing back in the day. Hopefully things will get better, there's still a lot of great anime out there!

  • I feel your pain with YTV i gave up watching anime on that channel

  • Thank you Greg, THANK YOU for finally calling out Adult Swim.

Those a-holes who work over there seriously need to leave their egos at the door, because they're not only fucking with what anime fans want to see, but even more seriously, with people's jobs here in the US and Japan.

  • @BWaygal117 dont be such a butt hurt faggot adult swim has had anime ever since they started and i love them for it sure their a bunch of tools but if any one of them ever made fun of anime too me id just throw saul of the molemen in their face and laugh it off and perfect hair forever was a hilarious parody

  • Does he play Kaoru Hitachiin in Ouran High School Host Club? He sounds alot like 'em XD

  • Yes he is Kaoru Hitachiin.

  • he rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • anime here to stay ^^

  • i feel so bad that i used to watch subs, though w/e ever i watched ive bought after though still i feel really bad i never knew any of this and its really scary for the industry its very worrying though its gr8 that Greg creates a whole pannel to inform us of this i wish more voice actors would do it

  • i feel even shittier. I downloaded dubs after i got fired and didnt have the money for dvds for like 3 months till i started helping my neighbors daycare. I sent Greg a formal apology on myspace and gave him a link to the site that was playing the dubs. there where almost 50 dubs on the page. so i hope Greg told someone at funi or adv about it so the guy get hammered.

  • oh yeah? well at least you sent the link and apologized i know how you feel and yeah i hope greg told someone too

  • I'd like statistics on how much profit comes from anime distribution in the states. A lot of the stuff that gets licensed here is shonen that I couldn't care less about. If anything I want dubbed shonens to die out in America, so in my opinion I'm improving the state of anime in America.

  • Hm well i can see why you think that, but your taking away money by doing that your taking away profit. those anime's you want dubbed why are they?

I mean its just we all lose in the end

  • I don't care about dubs, period. A lot of the stuff I like is unmarketable in America anyway and as such has no chance of getting licensed here. Why should I contribute to the American anime industry when they produce nothing of value to me?

  • Ouch, how harsh of you. So what your really saying is as long as u can get your free lousy fan subbed illegal anime your golden? Well does that mean you don't care that your hurting the Japanese Anime industry? or did you happen to not factor that in.

  • I'm not discouraging the production of anything I care about. Watch part 2 of this series, Greg states that the Japanese studios themselves encouraged the censorship of One Piece dub so they could cash in by distributing to a wider audience. If the Japanese studios have no integrity I don't care about them either. Why should I support censorship by buying a tainted product?

  • I know that, that was to make money and to appeal to a wider audience i wonder why they did that...hmm i guess it has nothing to do with the shape the anime industry is in now -.-

  • If that's their new business model for America then they can take their business elsewhere. I'm definitely not going to court them until they do what they should be doing in the first place.

  • yes but they are doing it because of people like you! your complaining about something that you yourself are involved in i mean come on, hypocrite much.

  • Have you actually watched his second video? The Japanese studios were so encouraged by the mainstream commercial success of titles like Dragonball Z that they decided censoring dubs and butchering anime was profitable. I'm here to show them that it's not.

  • Yes i have thank you. and i understand when you say butchering anime yes i believe allowing one piece to be censored how it was, was very wrong but at the time it obviously was their best choice to make the most amount of money they could. yes of course that's horrible, doing something like that for some money but they have to right now. i just don't think breaking the law is worth it to prove a point.

  • The majority of my anime viewing is of fansubs released in sync with the Japanese TV schedule. Thus, I don't watch anime licensed in the states, or at least, when I watch it it's not licensed. As you know, fansubs of unlicensed anime are completely legal and in some cases are encouraged by the Japanese industry because they are excellent promotion and market research for the American market. Of course, I don't buy anime in the USA even when it gets licensed here for the reasons stated previously

  • dude no its not legal! where did ya get that idea?

  • It's absolutely legal and in fact many studios encourage the subbing of unlicensed anime in the US with the understanding that subbing groups stop after an anime gets licensed. Fansubs were the source of Naruto's initial popularity in the US, it's free advertising and promotion for the studios. Maybe you should educate yourself with unbiased sources rather than taking everything the American industry says at face value.

  • i don't take things by face value i'm not a drone, but you may have a point i should do more research and come up with a totally my own opinion and not to be fueled by guilt. But i'm not going to completely listen to you (sorry if that sounds really rude) i just want to know a couple of things and i'm not one to admit when i'm wrong but i Think you know much more than i do (obviously) but isn't it stealing still even if its not licensed in the US

  • I won't indulge in subjectively defining "stealing", but I can tell you that fansubs of unlicensed anime fuel the American anime industry. Fansubbers are essentially a volunteer marketing and localization committee for anime studios. The studios may complain when licensed anime are pirated but the fact is fansubs are the reason anime is so popular here. Many of the other commenters have stated that they initially got into anime through subs, in fact I believe you admitted that yourself.

  • Yes that's true i must apologize for my earlier behavior we all have opinions and know different things and i really don't know all that much and you made me realize that so thanks actually. I'm quite embarrassed of my outburst before reading over my comments *sigh* i just get caught up. so tell me this how come its legal to fansub the original but when its licensed its automatically ruled out

  • Because an anime not licensed in the US only has a market through the relatively small niche of importers. Studios don't stand to make a profit on programs not available for purchase in the US, and therefore they tolerate fansubs which essentially advertise a particular show and test the waters for the American market (and they do it all for free). In reality subbers are a blessing to the industry, it's despicable that American producers disrespect them so easily.

  • Hmm i get that, that actually makes me feel alittle better. but isn't the Japanese getting angry about people subbing their property aren't they taking legal action. isn't it still illegal to sub it? if that makes sense ^^'

  • That's the crux of the matter, really. The answer is no, it's not illegal to distribute unlicensed anime. If the content isn't licensed in America it's not protected under American copyright law. The Japanese studios have no reason to be upset as they lose no money from the distribution of unlicensed anime while it is unlicensed, in fact, it's free marketing. They do however suffer from the distribution of content after it's licensed, and yes, that is illegal.

  • Oh okay i get that so much more - - - > coz i was really confused how since they as in Funimation are uploading subbed anime that hasn't been licensed and that's okay but fansub isn't that really confused me so thanks

  • What are some of these unmarketable anime shows that you like?

And if a US company were to license a subtitled version of a show you enjoyed, would you buy it?

  • I wouldn't. I don't believe in wasting resources in marketing, packaging, and manufacturing products for the American audience, therefore I wouldn't support such projects financially. However, I do believe in buying DVD's directly from Japan. My reasoning is simple: I provide financial support to projects I want to succeed and continue.

  • But if a US company were to release a title you like then buying it would help support the Japanese in producing more, and further give an indication of what you would like to see made. One of the goals of fansubbing is to promote its popularity and buying the US version helps in this.

Do you buy R2 dvds? They're manufactured and come in packages too. Just more expensive and no subtitles.

And again, what are some of these unmarketable anime titles you like?

  • Maybe that didn't go through so I'll ask again:

Do you buy Region 2 anime dvds? And if you do, what titles are they?

  • No answer from penqinftw. After all that pretentious pro-fansub bullshit which is just an excuse to watch it for free. You don't buy the US or Japanese product so you're not supporting anything, and suddenly a bottom feeder like you thinks he has the right to tell others how things are?

Go back to trolling the internet looking for free fansubs and leave the discussion to real fans.

You have no right to be heard from.

  • You are a dumbass. Read his comment again. He doesn't care about packaging and such for the AMERICAN audience.

In other words, he wants the R1 industry to tank.

The Clarification Police is done here. Move along, folks.

  • He wants the R1 industry to tank? Really, ya think so Captain Obvious? Damn are we ever lucky to have cliche boy step in here and clear that up.

If all fansubbing on the net were to stop tomorrow, very few of those downloading fansubs would start buying it- legal download or DVD. The majority are only interested in anime as long as it's free.

So goof, you tell me it that's true or not.

Hell I can't wait for this one.

  • I don't care about opinions regarding anime or downloads or fansubs.

I only came here to tell you how stupid you are at interpretation.

    Later.

  • Sure you don't care about opinions on fansubbing, that's why you're running around posting on Greg Ayre's panel.

So that nothing is left to interpretation, go ahead and tell why you want the US anime business to fail.

This is your big chance to show you don't care.

Or you can do another dick tuck and run when the questions get tough.

    Just like penquinftw.

  • Oi, you're the one acting like a two-year-old throwing stones at people. You're constantly asking for a fight that I won't give you. I haven't even said what I think about the problem yet.

Stop being childish. Read before you rage.

  • Read what? You're afraid to answer either question.

How you could you be so poor at interpretation? You say I'm looking for a fight yet you jumped into a thread and threw the first stone.

Damn, all these anime freeloaders who think they're clever at word tag but won't say anything because at the root of it they just want anime for free.

Just admit it, or write another empty post or disappear.

    It's all the same.

  • You're really saying nothing at all anymore. You're just flailing your arms around, looking for an excuse to hit me, making up false accusations and excuses. If you're that desperate to let out your nerd rage, go play some Street Fighter or something.

    1) Non-interpretation excuse (doesn't apply)

    2) Accusing me of being a freeloader even though I have said nothing of the sort

    Go cry some more.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, he picked option #2 and wrote a post that says nothing.

It's official. Nyoronoru is a freeloader who watches fansubs and doesn't support the anime business in any way.

Oh, you're going to cry and say I'm making a false accusation? Sorry loser, you had plenty of chances to say otherwise and blew it.

See, that's what happens when you try to play cute to avoid questions you don't want to answer.

  • You're sounding unusually like Greg Ayres right now; there's no way I could just be trying to clear up a matter between you and another poster, right? I must be here to argue about fansubs, right?

Your deluded high horse is laughable. You're setting a great example for people who purchase shows. Attack everyone that moves.

  • Too late now freeloader.

  • I do feel sorry for you.

  • You feel sorry for me because I called you on your bullshit but you don't feel sorry about stealing someone elses hard work and property?

You freeloaders are really screwed up and have a misplaced sense of right and wrong.

But there's no point in my trying to explain this to you because for those who don't understand, no explanation will do.

  • I feel sorry for you because right now you're seeing red like an animal. You're like those people who call for boycotts against Nintendo because of mature content.

Keep up the false accusations without basis. I'm sure you have a future as a lawyer ahead of you.

  • That reply was too weird for words...

  • Your idiocy is too obvious for words, but I stepped down for it anyway.

    Feel proud.

  • Freeloader, from where you're standing you would have to dig another hole just to see your toes.

  • Your jokes aren't even funny. Idiocy and failure in one; it's all rolling up in a ball! Katamari doesn't have anything on you.

  • What the hell is a Katamari?

  • I can link you to the ROM so you can play it on your emulator for free.

  • Don't have an emulator.

And don't try so hard with the comeback, just take a deep breath, relax, and explain what a Katamari is.

    Can you do this?

  • I'm perfectly fine; you're the one that looks like you're about to have a heart attack and lose an engagement over this.

It took you half an hour to figure out what an emulator is but you couldn't figure out what Katamari is? You really are over forty years old.

  • Of course you're fine, being a wacko is normal for you. Don't be so nervous and explain what a Katamari is. It should be easy. If you can tie your shoes, hold a fork or use a phone it should be simple.

Just use some words, you know, those squiggly things in the bright multi-colored karaoke font that jump out at you from the fansubs on your hardrive.

    Here, I'll get you started:

    A Katamari is......

See, just fill in the blank.

Go for it. Try your hardest.

  • What kind of whacko doesn't even know what a Katamari is? Furthermore, what kind of idiot doesn't even know how to use Wikipedia? Lastly, who merges the words "hard" and "drive"?

Did your mother drop you when you were little?

  • Too afraid to explain what Katamari is?

Afraid I'll tease you? Of course. I think you've been watching too many fansubs and your english skills are suffering. I'll help you:

Just imagine you're watching that latest hot fansub show you just downloaded because you're a douche. Now you're reading that romanji karaoke for that cool opening song you have on mp3:

    KATAMARI te nan

    katamari TE nan

    katamari te NAN

Freeloader: Me to o skared 2 ansur.

  • A person who can't spell out "hard drive" is telling me my English is bad? Heh. Also, you don't know how to use the internet except to write nasty youtube comments like a child; meaning you'll never know what a Katamari is. You can't write Japanese or English. An amazing failure I have never seen yet.

If you are their rep for purchasing, this is perfect. Keep up the good work.

  • Ok, since you suffer from fear of expressing an opinion at the expense of getting your ass handed to you, I'll give you some options:

    What is a Katamari?

    A) You can eat it.

    B) Bigger than a breadbox.

    C) You can store a sick-ass lot of fansubs on it.

    D) All of the these.

Please pick one of the above, Creativity and actually having some balls is encouraged.

  • The description of a Katamari isn't an opinion, you dummy. It's a fact. I'll help with the questionnaire.

A Katamari is inedible. It is indeed bigger than a breadbox. Since a Katamari is capable of storing any object on earth, I wouldn't doubt any video files would be able to escape.

If this is the intelligence of those working in the industry, then maybe their efforts are wasted.

  • How do you know a Katamari is inedible?

Did you ever try to eat one?

  • Do you know what a Katamari is?

  • It's bigger than a bread box?

  • The size of the Katamari depends on the roller. Initially though, it is bigger than a bread box.

  • pst its kinda not just the anime industry its kinda sorta the whole economy of the us is tanking lol

  • And that's why Toonami is gone...

  • The reason that they are not lower the price because it's still sell about the same even with the lower price dvd.

  • the other countries should do what canada did and put a high fee for downloading

  • Thank you for uploading this and the other panel. They come in real handy whenever I want to show someone just how damaging their downloading habits can be. :D

  • The thing Greg refuses to consider is that the physical availability of fansubs doesn't somehow preclude buying anime. You have to blame the individual for not buying, basically. And for those that didn't buy anime before watching fansubs, you can't claim you lost any money on them.

And I know plenty of people that are just Netflix whores and copy 20-30 disks a month. Netflix can't singlehandedly keep the anime industry afloat either.

US markets don't have merchandise to depend on like Japan.

  • I fansubbed for a number of years and I'll make a few comments:

The anime industry in the US is in more trouble than Japan, but both are having hard times atm. Geneon USA had 40% of the US license collection -- they're gone. Bankrupt. ADV Films went from 26 licenses in 2005 to around 5 in 2006. They also closed down 1/2 of their dubbing studios. ADV also recently lost a large chunk of their licenses when a large investor pulled the plug on funding.

  • hello, kind, young, man!^^

  • do u have any proof of this? please really you don't have to be so rude about it, just voice your opinion in a civil manner next time.

  • I just wannt to say thank very very much for uploading this Greg rules and I am so happy that he is doing these panels and the other VA's are doing them too and to be very honest I am actually pretty scared about the future of anime with these people basicly stabbing the knife in to the industry I think we are gonna be screwd and really I buy my Manga and Anime from there English Distributetors I don't wanna pay for people's fuck ups.

  • Who's going to put up an anime streaming site when he doesn't have a ton of shows to offer? No one is going to subscribe, few would even visit.

My opinion, but the US side started buying a glut of shows from the Japanese, even paying for the stuff before it gets made. There's so much of the shit even Japanese fans have lost interest.

So smaller may be better in this case, (no pun) and this is a real unpopular thing to say but I'm a blabbermouth and it had to get said.

    There's no choir here.

  • One justification for downloading that is never brought up at these panels is that a lot of people feel it's okay to download a show because it's crap they'd watch once but would never pay for.

Go ahead and hate on me, but with less anime being made the quality goes up (hopefully), it costs less to be a fan, and bootlegging and downloading decrease dramatically. How is some prick supposed to make money off bootlegs when there isn't a lot of shows to rip from?

  • More probable is that Naruto gets more seasons along with any other SJ series. I don't know that if ADV closed it's doors along with oh, lets pick our friends at Gonzo, the animation studio, prices would drop.

So if you eat a crappy meal at any given restaurant then you're going to walk out and never pay? There's this thing called Netflix my friend, oh and BOST.

  • A downsizing of the industry on both sides of the pacific would mean less money being made and people losing their jobs, and yeah that's harsh. But with a smaller pool of talent working on fewer shows it might actually result in a quality product that people care enough about that they won't settle for anything less than the genuine article, not a crap version downloaded from the net.

That beats the hell out of wasting money on the latest recycled comedy and fanservice.

The buyer has to cherrypick the good shows and leave the crap on the shelves. Yes it's subjective, but anime is no different than any other mass entertainment.
