  • I personally loved the first one and haven't fully gotten through the second, the third doesn't look to bad as long as it still has puzzles I think I'll like it.

  • wow, for all the dislikes I thought they gave it a 2 or something. 7.5 is a perfectly fine score especially when to get a 9 you need to break some ground. From what I've seen of the gameplay, it doesn't do that.

  • @insertnamehere001 It's much better than a 7.5 I understand the dissappointment.

  • 0:52 it almost feel like its a remake of the original game

    me: OFCOURSE IT IS IDIOT!

  • Damn, wrong video... Anyway, It's IGN so no one can take their reviews seriously ^-^

  • Y do i even bother watching this crap.....

  • GOLDEN SUN FANS: I want to get into this series... which game do I start with? Does this game continue the story from the original GBA game? THANKS!

  • @CDxTWal if you start from dark dawn it will be easy to pick up and understand so you can start from here but if you want you can start from the first one

  • @CDxTWal yes, it does continue the story, but there are some books in the game that tell you the story of the first two if you don't want to take the time to play them

  • @CDxTWal yes, the GBA games are tied into one another, you should start at the begining, and go through the seires chronologicly.

  • Also the game seemed pretty easy... The fights give too much experience comparing to the previous games and the monsters have way less life points. The Lost age was worth playing the second time, but I don't say the same for this one.

  • My personal opinion on Golden Sun Dark Dawn is that the story seems a little forced, specially in the last hours of gameplay. I enjoyed playing it, but nothing compared to what I did in "The Lost Age". Where all the story events led to the end that you so tirelessly fought for. This game... You go on the adventure to get the roc feather, and then stuff happens. Also I don't like games with "points of no return". The lost age was amazing that you could go back all the way to the beginning.

  • @gamingwonderboy stop hateing on IGN I think IGN does fine reviews!

  • talking -> story.....if they don't talk we will not know anything >D

And that they are talking gives the game more life (my opinion :-))

  • Too much talking !!!? The guy who made this review is a fat ugly noob with no girlfriend

  • [Continued] and even then, just when I thought the game was picking up, due to the last boss's level of challenge, I was sorely disappointed to find out that he was the last boss.. it's like... wow..... wtf... That's it?!

sorry to say, but in comparison to the previous 2 golden suns, the only aspect this game has over its previous two are the DS graphics, but then again, the golden sun series has always been known for its graphic hardware pushing development.

  • This game felt like a shell of its former 2 predecessors, too easy, too short, and I feel like I didn't get lengthy enough story to get to know the playable characters in depth (especially the later ones)

The Talking amount would have felt adequate, if only the writing style wouldn't have felt so dumbed down (cus after all, they geared this game towards new comers of the Golden Sun Game)

The only Boss fight that actually felt challenging enough to say was a real golden sun boss, was last one

  • i absolutely disagree with IGN. yeah, theires allot of talking, but theres also allot in zelda, but thats still a great SERIES, isnt it? how else are they going to tell the story? personally come to your door and give you a step-by-step version of the story? no. they're going to do something that still makes the game good but still enough so they wanna keep playing.

  • Dickweeds thats it no more no less Dickweeds

  • Yea, I don't share your opinion- thats why I hate you- you're so ignorant!!!

    ...

gosh I hate the youtube community.. nice review!

  • THIS GAME IS AVALIBLE ON THE NINTENDO DS.

  • Too much dialogues is bad? Suck my d**k

  • golden sun > FF7

  • 7.5 isn't bad for a game that doesn't stray from it's normalities. But with all of the positives mentioned in the review, I expected an 8.

  • Anyone else feel like they were just given a middle finger?

  • I'am playing this game right now and I can only say that I disagree with this review. This game is too damn good, I don't know yet if this game surpasses the first Golden Sun, but for me is one of the best Nintendo DS games.

  • I LOVE this game!!!!! Sure they talk too much, but it is still waaaaaay fun!!!!!

  • I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR NEGATIVE POINTS! I'm still getting this game, dammit! >:D Golden Sun FTW ^_^

  • 3d is overrated, especially in RPG's imo.

  • @fmags2fan *MILD SPOILER WARNING* Another problem was introducing 8 playable characters at a good pace (I mean, look at Himi, she has no personality :P). In TLA, they really only had to introduce 4 as the remaining 4 were already established in the first game.

However, I think Dark Dawn excelled at what it was trying to do. Introduce the franchise to a new generation of gamers as well as create the same perfect balance between puzzle solving and fighting.

  • @fmags2fan I disagree. However, I can see why one would consider this one not as good as the original two.

First off, the story: Dark Dawn's main plot doesn't get off the ground until you're almost in the last act of the game. In previous games you had a very clear goal throughout the whole thing.

Secondly: the difficulty level. Dark Dawn was very easy to beat. But to be honest, playing through the original these days, you will realize it's pretty much a walk in the park as well. (:

  • ah, i remember when i bought my arctic white gba with golden sun as my first game. goddamn was i ever impressed. good memories

  • I'm a little confused. So the game is good, or not? I've never played the rest of the series, so I want opinion! D:

  • Ignorant

    Gaming

    Noobs IGN

  • @gamingwonderboy Exactly!

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, the quest, while similar in nature, barely has any similarities with the previous one. While in GS and TLA you get actively involved on an epic adventure to either destroy or save the world, often not knowing whether you're trying to do the former or the later, in DD you're dragged into a global mess while you're only required to collect the items to repair a machine.

The battle system is too rewarding, I admit, but the thing is that all RPG plots are expected to be slightly similar.

  • Wow IGN you suck lol Look at your dislikes lmao

  • "a quest very similar to the one their parents took"?

Golden Sun 1 and 2 plot: Light 4 lighthouses to save the world

Golden Sun Dark Dawn plot: Fix a Soarwing....

    yep I see the similarity.

  • i have played and beaten all 3 of the golden sun games and i kinda have 2 agree with ign review on this one. the talking kinda is alot, and especially since there was very little to no voice acting from what i can remember. plus this game is practically the same as golden sun 1, matthew even looks the same as isaac, like the character model was just re hashed with a few minor changes.

  • Too much talking, lol. This is an RPG. A role playing game. OF COURSE THEY WILL TALK A LOT. Plus, what would you need for this game to be original?! Morality choices? Open-world game? F-THAT. Different RPG styles. It's almost as if comparing Burnout with GTA and claim that 'GTA's cars aren't fast enough, and the collisions don't look dramatic' >_>'

  • @TheDeadkaiser a different combat system and a wider variety of puzzles would make it more original.

  • Stupid ign they have only been right about 1 game lost planet 2 that game sucks ass

  • FUCKING IGN THE ONLY GOOD SYSTEMS AND GAMES FOR THEM IS THE XBOX,IOS GAMES! WE ONLY WATCH IGN FOR THE CHICKS

  • Reviewer is a total REPUB!

  • My only complaints towards this game is that for me, it's feel a little too easy (seriously, on most of the boss battles I was barely even trying), and the music isn't as awesome as in the past 2 games.

Still, I give it at least a 9.

  • "Too much talking"

    >Implying that reviewer is not an IGN Role Playing Game specialist.

Seriously! It's like saying: "Oh God this novel I bought has so many WORDS!"

  • I've never even played this game and I think it isn't unoriginal. Ah IGN, how can a gaming website be so wrong about games?

  • @1Zizz1 there wrong about a lot of games because they get biased opinionated people to do the review! they never get an actual RPG person or shooter person that has played through the series of a game beginning to end, they mix it up with a random person! at least thats the way it seems when you see a review from them anyway! this game isn't anywhere near a bad RPG in the slightest, its at least a 9 who cares about a lot of text or talking, it is infact an "RPG" after all right?

  • Story Golden Sun: Return the 4 elemental stars back to Mt. Aleph to save Vale

Story 2 Golden Sun Lost Age: Save the world from ever destruction by lighting the 4 lighthouses

Story 3 Golden Sun Dark Dawn: Fix soarwing <------ FAIL CAMELOT

  • @yaoman100

that's how the story starts... then it makes the way for a good story. personally i found the story better developed than in gs1 and 2. then again the chracters don't ever seem to shut their mouths in this game. its frustrating at times.

  • Whats better this or dragon quest ix?

  • @eminem21222

    I'd say this.

  • @eminem21222 I just bought both today :D

  • 7,5?! it's sad that people like this "reviewer" get paid for trolling, when that money could be used to save starving children or indangered animal species...

  • I'm sorry, but compared to the first 2 games, this is a shambles. Way too much focus on huge cutscenes and silly puzzles which my 6 year old brother could solve. To be fair, I did play the game all the way through, and enjoyed it, but nothing compared to the magnitude of how much I enjoyed the first two. I really hope that the 4th installment will resurrect the style from the first couple of games and really deliver :)

  • oh yeah “too much talking”… why didnt they say that about Metal Gear Solid 4 or Final Fantasy 13

  • @CatcherP57 Because they actually have dubs/voiceovers in those games unlike this game where it's all boring ass text.

  • @HelloiPWN Text expands the imagination, lets the player visualize how the character should sound, Legend of Zelda anyone? I mean honestly, no voices is better than shit voices, which a lot of other games provide.

  • @j0llygr33n People are different; maybe you somehow get a kick out of imagining how other characters speak, but I'm going to assume most people don't like sitting around and reading a shit ton boring text when they're playing a videogame. Very few good games have shit voiceovers and even if it does you shouldn't let that hold you back from liking the game if you truly believe it has enjoyable gameplay. Oh yeah, most newer LoZs technically have 'voiceovers' btw.

  • @HelloiPWN Which would you rather have? An amazing game with text or an amazing game with the worst voice acting you've ever heard?

  • @Ryanmiller70 That question's not really fair, is it? It's like asking "Would you have a delicious apple, or a delicious apple with a worm in it?" If it's the worst voice acting I've ever heard then I would probably choose the game with text unless the game with voice acting is a game I really enjoy playing. Let me ask you, would you rather have an amazing game with the worst script you've ever read? Or an amazing game with voice acting?

  • @HelloiPWN Easy. The amazing game with the worst script I've ever heard, as long as it's text. Voice acting can ruin so many games that I don't trust it. I'd rather have text. Most games that have text, such as the Zelda franchise, would be ruined if they added voices, even if the voice acting was amazing.

  • @Ryanmiller70 Voiceovers would not ruin Zelda; that's just what you think because you're one of those old generation hipsters who think they're amazing for playing games like FF7 and don't want anything to change because it would "destroy your childhood memories" or some bs like that (or you could be a poser, I digress). It's all opinionated. Thing is, any bad element in a game could ruin it completely, including the text.

  • @HelloiPWN I didn't start playing Zelda until Wind Waker. Even now I still think that Zelda would be ruined if there was voice acting. Metroid was amazing until the voice acting was added, then it turned to garbage. I haven't played FF7. The only Final Fantasy game I've played is X-2, which I loved. Text, like voice acting, isn't always a negative. If you're one of those lazy people that don't care about story, then stop playing RPGs and go back to your Call of Duty.

  • @Ryanmiller70 I suggest you revise everything you just said, because it's all wrong in so many ways.

  • @HelloiPWN Look, I can understand wanting voice acting in a console game, while I don't support it for some video game franchises, but this is a handheld game. Handheld games normally have text and if it does have voice acting, it's normally very staticy and horrible.

  • @Ryanmiller70 Nah, very few DS games have voiceovers and the ones that do are usually decent. The PSP has some good quality sound and the voice acting in PSP games are clear and well done most of the time.

  • @HelloiPWN Still. To me, a handheld should never have voice acting. The games I've played for the DS that have voice acting are normally great games that would of been even better had they had no voice acting. I'd rather have just text.

  • @HelloiPWN old generation gamers played ff4 and 6 and don't give a shit about FF7

  • @deraickripper No, that's just being a super mega gay fag hipster.

  • @CatcherP57 because they dont like nintendo

  • @Keyeb oh i know they don’t, but i do, do you have Mario Kart 7?

  • @CatcherP57 yup!!

  • @CatcherP57 personal preference... every reviewer has its own oppinion

  • @CatcherP57 Maybe because those game have voice acting where you can just kick back and relax while enjoying the story instead of having to read annoying bubbles for half an hour.

  • Unoriginal… are u fucking kidding me.. .and uncharted/ call of duty is?… fucking ign...

  • i used to love the first golden sun game, it was one of my favorite gba games ever, it had a great story and i never found reading all the text annoying the game play was always fun and occasionally a bit complicated, but over all it was a great and fun game, that's just my thoughts on the old one, and i hope when i try this one it's just as good of a experience as the old one :D

  • this game was epic! a worthy successor indeed. fuck ign.

  • My only complain about this game is the NO RETURN POINTS!, if you forgot a djinn you have to start the whole game again.

  • I played the first two and I'm afraid this one might ruin it for me but I'll probably try it anyway

  • Never played the original games and after playing this I kinda regret it. Shows how much I missed out on :(

  • didn't even know it was out and on DS. I thought when they showed it at E3 last year that it would be for 3DS. I wish they kept the graphics 2D sprite based.

  • WHAT THE HELL'S WRONG WITH WORD BUBBLES??? This is why US isn't first in education, cause we're too damn lazy to read....

  • I really enjoyed this game and it mostly had to do with the consistency with the other games. RPGs have text, get over it man. If they didn't, it'd be a sprite walking around a town of other sprites and running into monsters, dragons, and bandits. The text was a little weak and childish compared to the other games, but we want another golden sun and this review just scares us into thinking the game won't come.

  • Interesting Story.. Unoriginal.

Either it has an interesting story or the game is Unoriginal! The story is part of the originality of the game, so maybe the sophist reviewer missed that one. I haven't played this game it looks cool. Doesn't look near as good as it could have been. It probably could have been a lot more original with a lot more of an interesting story. Its not like the producers of this game were in a big time pressed rush to have to make this. It could have been a great one.

  • @MarkScheppy The story is pretty original, though I wouldn't call it an exact breakthrough.

But it does feel less of a moral debate that constantly blasts you with economic, religious or cultural issues, and is more focused on the actual adventure at hand, handling one thing at a time (Like: When you're done with your Roc feather quest, then they bring up all the Luna Tower shit), a thing that both Tales of and Final Fantasy fail at. Sometimes simpler is better.

  • Everyone, give me your top 5 DS RPGS please!

  • I'd rather play Lost Age than Dark Dawn.. I personally think they didn't do the best they could on dark dawn, quite simply... psynergy is weaker than I remember it, and the normal attacks are alot stronger...little to none of the towns from the Gameboy were in this one, or ever mentioned. The only characters from the original that were even seen were: Alex, Kraden(of course), Isaac, and Garet. What happened to Felix and the others?

Where are the other of the original 8?

  • Wow Golden Sun fans are ridiculous.... I love the first two games but you are a freaking blind fan if you think this game is anything above an 80%

  • @yoyoyo88665 Tell me more dude.

  • wtf ign you and the 166 people that liked this vid are gay!!!!!!!!!!

  • 7.5? ign you failed at this review .

  • Comment removed

  • unoriginal? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME D:<

  • Dude whats wrong with you? it seems you just read about this game instead of playing it!

  • IGN should do a verdict to see what EVERYONE thinks and base the score on that instead of one person. Well like evryone says you cant spell IGNorant without IGN

  • @wolflink981 You do realize that there's a specific place on their website dedicated to doing just that, right? You need to take it easy and learn that a review is just the opinion of the reviewer. It always was and always will be. Take it with a grain of salt, especially when you know you're going to buy the game anyway, and move along.

  • @eagles980 i DID buy it and im at the Final boss of the game.........Curse the Chaos Chimera

  • unoriginal. someone fucking hold me back.

  • @cooler700 I know how you feel. I don't get how this fucktard decided to call it 'unoriginal' by any means. Probably just another bandwagoner FFVII fanboy.

  • @DefinitionOfSex HEY stop it, I'm a FFVII fanboy, but shit this game is awesome, saying GS is unoriginal is just plain dumb though...

The devs did their best to keep it classic and implement DS features in it, it worked great imo! :)

  • @cooler700 lol are you kidding me, what makes a difference between this game and the other 2, the gameplay is exactly the same.

  • the story was confusing for me until the very end which I hated that aspect of it but none the less I still loved it. The battles, music and the design

  • IGN this review sucks. How dare you call this generic. Then give the overused pokemon plotline a better review. Jack you would have thought better of the game if it was COD you JackASS.

  • IGNorant review from a reviewer who just plays the game for an hour. lame!!

  • From a completely objective standpoint (that is, not a diehard Golden Sun or Metroid fan), should I buy this or Prime Hunter?

  • @crowley1878 Golden Sun, Prime Hunter controls awkwardly. Golden Sun's main problem is the wordy dialogue, which is pretty standard for RPGs

  • Lol, I love how IGN makes the game looks worse than it actually is. Whenever IGN gives a game a bad score, I usually buy it.

  • Talking too much... in an RPG? Is this a joke?

  • I actualy agree with this review... GSDD was kinda of a disapointment considering how good the other 2 games were

  • Unoriginal? I don't care about originality. I care about if it's fun or not.

  • 1:38 love that music

  • Everybody knows Psyenergy > Magic.

  • HAHA if you have'nt played the previous games then dont bother getting this. I still have mines for GBA from when I was 8 years old.

  • this could be a problem. my bumper buttons on my ds are really broken, so i really hope i can touch the spells to do so, otherwise ill need to borrow my younger sisters ds to play this right:(

  • @robloxfan459 You can play the entire game using the touchscreen.

  • HEY! THIS GAME IS PERFECTLY FINE. TAKING POINTS OFF FOR THEM TAKING TOO MUCH IS RIDICULOUS! I am LPing the first game and the cut-scenes are long in that game too! Serously once episode 6 is up the cut-scene goes on for 3 episodes! Does it make it a bad game NO!

  • The only thing unoriginal I see here is IGN's review. Same shit all the time. If it's not CoD, it's not getting over an 8

  • This would have gotten a better score if it was COD Zombies on the DS

  • ATTENTION: I just ordered the very first GS game because i remember playing it when i was younger and friggin loved that game. Played it all the time. I wasn't really gonna buy the second one TLA but did it anyway on impulse.

I was just wondering is GS Dark Dawn worth purchase? I have read some reviews for it and kinda got sum mixed feelings for getting it. So just wanting to know, is it a hit or miss?

I would appreciate it. Thank you. :)

  • @BouSHaYe09 I gave me a lot of nostalgia because i played the series when i was young. It's a fairly long game but it's not very hard

  • @BouSHaYe09 Play the first 2. This one is not as Legendary as the first 2 were, as they are simply the best RPG games to date, but its still a great game, nonetheless, if you love RPGS, get Dark Dawn. DO IT!

  • This game should be at least 8.5 not 7.5. IGN is always giving biased reviews.

  • played the old golden suns. they were awesome. assuming this one was as awesome.

  • this review sucks. Thanks Mperce.

  • garbage review. unoriginal myass.

  • You people should never take IGN seriously, to be honest, the points they brought up were true, Mperce made a better review in a youtube comment. I think the game deserves a bit more then a 7.5, I would not dare give it a 10/10, it IS flawed, but IGN is biased.

  • Damnit IGN its PSYNERGY not magic and I don't think they'd need to change anything. These are the same features that I fell in love with in the first Golden Sun.

  • @darthelghastN7 Yeah, bought it with my 3DS and love it. The Graphics are great. the story is okay, kinda dark. the puzzles are too easy for the average gamer imo. The music are great (Motoi Sakuraba FTW). the battles and boss fights are great, too easy sometimes. The talking doesn't bother me because I just love how it shows content kinda like an interesting book. Either than that I agree with the pros and cons of Mperce's comment, it's a great and effective RPG game and hoping for a sequel.

  • @darthelghastN7 yeah, alot of people dislike the review. 7.5 isn't quite fair, the golden sun series ofc have lots of talking, and unoriginality? cmon, pokemon b/w got a good review, whats up with that?!

  • i like the old school feel of the rpg but putting a little of a new feel to it they better not change the old school battle system thats the only thing keeps me playing rpg i love turn base systems

  • Well, as I like to say, If you don't like a lot of dialogue, don't play an RPG. That's almost as stupid as a vegetarian eating steak.

  • I'm so sick of everything having to be original nowadays for people to like it. Although, there is an extent where generic does get pretty boring. Also, I'm sick of this generation handhelds. Something doesn't have to be up to current tech or gameplay standards to be a good game. Also, too much talking? That just sounds like complaining too much. I respect your opinion IGN, but I respectfully disagree.

  • did anyone else see the commercial where it says "what can we do in bed" before this video :p

  • I have yet to buy this game but too much talking? And Magic? Wtf dude seriously?! How the fuck is the story gonna get to the player? Yes all the talking does suck when it gets too long but it's still necessary. Magic? The fuck it's magic! It's PSYNERGY! More epic than magic! ...lol

  • I guess "the last generation"'s gameplay is trash as he complains about. Let's go look at their Final Fantasy reviews and see how they like it there. Magic? It's Psynergy. Please PLAY the game before actually reviewing it. It's like listening to a High School debate.

  • WOW your voice looks like Derek from Classic Game Room

  • lmao magic attacks something tells me this reviewer is a complete moron and he even said the turn based RPG gameplay feels dated? Wtf is this fag talking about. Its a TURN BASED RPG GAME

  • @DarkConcept66

Maybe it's because most RPG's today aren't really turn based anymore as the Golden Sun series is. Newer RPG's follow a WOW pattern or even an active turn based system. Golden Sun has always been passive. This type of gameplay isn't seen very much anymore.

  • @xaznacex Thats bullshit because Pokemon got a higher review

  • The djinn are back? They never left =D

  • Comment removed

  • @49ers1013 Hal makes Super Smash Bros. >,>

  • @MasterDarkTemplar well, whatever...

  • @49ers1013

But why would Konami do that? They're not connected to Super Smash, are they?

  • you're so right! they never shut up! one time i was so close to beating the game that i got to the point i was fighting the boss; i had just beaten the chaos hound and now had to finnish the last battle ( this was around 4:30 am because i couldn't sleep that night so i figured what the hell golden sun time") by the time the finnished blabbing and the credits were done it was damn near 5:00 am!

  • they need to fire this kid, his voice is annoying and his reviews fail.

  • Interesting story (pro) and too much talking (con)? How else is the story going to get across to the player? Yes I agree, the characters love to hear themselves talk, but you're retarded for being such a hypocrite IGN. Goodbye.

  • I like RPGs on my handhelds and on the back of the case there was a kick-ass gold dragon on it when I saw it also it was twenty dollars! :O I need to buy this game

  • Waaaait... Dark Dawn has an interesting story, but it's unoriginal?

    ...

    Oh, IGN

  • @GameOverthinkerFan7 Its slightly based on the first 2 games, thats why it can still be so interestingly awesome

  • I just got this game for £13, and I'm already loving it. I'm glad it's easier because I don't really like level grinding on rpgs.

  • the game is great but the review is not so

  • FUCK THIS REVIEW THE WHOLE SERIES WAS GROUNDBREAKING YOU MONOTONE WHORE!

  • What s this MAH-JICK you speak of?

    Do you mean Psynergy?

  • what a negative on "Too Much Talking"?? WTF

thats what all the Golden Sun games are about XD

  • Lost Age was soo better (My Fav)

this game is too easy, but still a good game

  • Man, i loved the original games... But those were made a decade ago, this looks exactly the same as back then (and note how even those two games were rather easy, even for a 10 year-old).

Dude, they didn't even update the graphics, i'm sad, really got hyped when i heard they we're making a new game after all this time - and then they show up with this.

  • @HuxRift most ds games look like really good looking gameboy advance games

  • If it had "Final Fantasy" on the box it would have gotten a higher score.

  • How is it unoriginal if it has an interesting story, dumbasses?

  • @Mperce Either you suck, or I'm great at the gs games, but there is no level grinding on any of my play through's.

  • @SuperSayinBoots I meant in regards to monster encounters. They toned down the encounter chances a lot in Dark Dawn, which I was much happier about.

    Sorry for the confusion.

  • Reviews depend on opinions, and opinions on people, and all people are different, so everyone thinks about a game in a different way. Iplayed through GS and GS:TLA and I still luke this Game a lot, it has everything that made GS Epic. So my Opinion is: GS: DD 10/10

PS: It doesnt matter what that guy says, just your opinion matters, so take a look at this game by yourself ;)
