Because PC's of the era, especially when running DOS applications, performed nearly all graphics operations on the CPU (not to mention IO and most digital sound effects). The Amiga, on the other hand, had powerful dedicated IC's just for graphics and sound. In fact the Amiga had two for graphics (Agnus - a full coprocessor and - Denise). That this game ran as well as it did on a 386 is a testament to the hard work of the devs and hand coded assembler.
whar computer do you have? I ran this game on a 386dx 40 MHz with 4 mb ram an 512kb video card...in your video graphic is amazing...(my video card is realteck)
wow, bringing back memories. playing 2player was awesome. for some reason i remember when playing 2 player on keyboard either the left or right buttons never worked for one person
omg i loved this game as a kid...a friend of mine had removed the protection and we used to play is crazy!! does anyone still have this game? reply to this message to let me know....thanks yo!
for some weird reason LOTUS 3 on the pc was just LOTUS - and im sure my brother will agree with me, but in comparison to the amigas lotus 3 (THE SAME GAME) the music is MILES better on the amiga - and what gets me is whats with the purple car on the dos version - lotus the eintire series was always based on the red lotus - i dont get that! and its not a dos limitation, this was running on vga 256 colours! someone lemme know about that1
The Esprit on the PC version is a Esprit 'S4', the one on all the other computers is a Esprit 'SE'. Dont know why, must be an "exclusive feature" of the PC version.
You're right about the music though... Amiga version was / is best!
@paulisthebest3uk Well, the Genesis ports ( LOTUS TURBO CHALLENGE and LOTUS II RECS) were the same red Lotus Esprit as the main car, but as far as I know, car colours could not be changeable.
And I do agree the AMIGA version was superior. On one side you had PC and Genesis, on the other side you had AMIGA and SNES. It was like that back then.
I used to love Lotus 3 on the ST, it was really easy to take the copy protection out too - was a plain text file on the root of the disk. Now whenever I fancy a burn I just hop in my 205 GTI 8)
What the FUCK was the goodbye at the end? If it's your own personal thing, i suggest you quit it, creepiest thing ever.

Why did it require a 386 on the PC?
It run perfectly well on a 68000 7mhz on the Amiga.

was a lot slower on the 386, the difference in speed between the 386 and 486 versions of this game is pretty impressive...

Game plays as good as on my Amiga but the Adlib music really sucks
Tried it yesterday on my 386 PC with a Soundblaster 2.0 which rocks for Adlib compatibility but that doesn't help, lol
And it runs very smoothly on my 386DX 40mhz so Paul..you don't have to have a 486 to run it smootly :D
