In many ways Kathy was like Alma Cogan - she just seemed to light up the screen and her personality came over well on records

As a child I adored female singers like Kathy and would sit in front of the B&W TV in awe of the likes of Alma Cogan, Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Dinah Shore,Sarah Vaughan, Eve Boswell, Lena Horne etc etc - to this day I'm a sucker for a torch song and singer!

And you're right that Kathy had that quality to light up the screen, similar to Marilyn Monroe, you just couldn't take your eyes off her?

lanpbx, I agree. I was in Cairo at the Hilton, penthouse. A Kathy Kerby lookalike with full orchestra, violins the lot. The audence was fat Egyptian buissiness men. Kathy could have had millions. But had to live with him. Money or love?

I remember seeing Kathy regularly on TV when I was about 10-y-o, in the early 1960s. I thought she was wonderful, both in looks and voice. She had a great voice and should have gone on for decades -like Bassey. Hear her now and she sounds even better, especially with the cr@p that's around. Thanks Youtube.

I saw Kathy in the 60's.she had become a stripper.She would perform,totally nude, and she would sing many old French wine country songs, along a few Judy Garland standards.She had a big gay following.But she lost their support when she became 'born again' Some said, that she was lesbian like Helen Shapiro,who was often was involved with Leslie Gore & Janis Ian. Ann Margret said she was the best singer she ever heard. Elvis liked her, but complained, that she was uppity!

exclusively7: I have it on good authority from a friend of mine that she was performing at Ronnie Scott's a couple of years ago and doing rather well. She has not fully retired and can sometimes be persuaded to appear when the time is right and the mood suits her. But That's not to say I think you are wrong, I just have to admit she is rather hard to spot these days. Thanks.

MelvilleB: She disappeared suddenly many years ago because she was being hounded by the press after they found out she was having an alleged affair with some man's wife. And so the two of them fled on a yacht until the heat was off. Afterwards she came back to England and began appearing in jazz clubs for the occasional performance. And I believe she is still doing so to this day.

Britain's most underrated and overlooked female singer. She was ripped off by her manager and ended up bankrupt. Now lives quietly alone in Hammersmith, West London. Cathy Kirby always looked so beautiful,such glamour. Whilst in UK in the 80's they suddenly showed a clip of her, it was tragic,she was in tears.Obviously she had a big alcohol problem.Did she recover?? It is a serious illness.I hope that she is still alive, and happy. Peter
