@udhar good point. BUT, the tragedy/crime is that the monkeys where manipulated into going against their nature. They were cruelly prevented from being themselves and to feed themselves. The adverse affect on their "psychology" as individual monkeys and as a group is hard to ascertain. But we can get an idea by seeing how much misery there is in the world around us.
