My all time favorite ballad to play and listen to. Redman kills it for sure. Nice subtone. Buttery smooth. Love to watch the live performances, too! 5:41...OOOPS. Redman is human like the rest of us but he recovers better than most!.You can see him open his eyes after.....Hahaha. Love to watch the Michael Brecker clip where he misses the altissimo run on his Some Skunk Funk solo. Everybody is human on some level. At least I'm not alone................Jazz Music is good for the soul.
@berncj: You're right! Jazz is linked to a talented artist, not to a name. A talented artist plays the tunes and songs with respect and that's what' counts. As if Joshua Redman doesn't know the history of Jazz. Listen to the music and enjoy so much talent!
Yes, I can hear one quite out of place note and some string movement. It was an unnatural rest because it didn't fit with the rhythm he was resolving the chords downward. And so he skipped the last resolution.
Obvious mistake to who? It is music man. The guitar player is sweet as are the rest. I dig the whole tune. Everyone's take is different. That is why it is called jazz my friend. No it is not Trane's version or Sonny's version. It ain't supposed to be.
like you are in with the saxophone very beautifull you let me remember lester young ben webester colomn hawkins sonny rollins krikor libanon sax player

Next to Sonny Rollin's version from the Montreal jazz fest, which is posted on youtube, this is the next best version I've heard.

Ballads - Well nowadays maybe, But as we all know - Ben Webster and Hawk will ne'er be topped!

Um John Coltrane and Bird maybe. There is a clip on youtube where bird handed Hawk's tail to him. Overall though, they are all great musicians

Sonny Rollins does it great indeed, as most of what he is doing! Earlier softer - but in later years a bit harsher!
Redman follows up beatifully in a way his ideas! Coltrane's version is different and something that only he might come up to!

very tasteful by Redman but isn't that an obvious mistake by the guitar player at 0:45?

To answer this, listen without looking. Do you hear a problem there?

Joshua is NOT the only one doing this song, so....shutup!

@helluvagun : Try to play the sax like Mr. Redman and then you may speak! So just listen or think before you post something insulting!
