This was one of the best lineups I have ever seen Lee play with. He has been one of my top guitarists since 79 when I first heard him play. I read a review on Lee once that stated he was destined to only be a good session player. Glad Rit did not believe the guy either. Check out his newest CD 6 String Theory and listen to the future "worlds best" guitar players.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There was a time when Lee Ritenour was regarded as the best guitarist in the world. That solo shows us why! It's not just all the technique, it's the tone, the taste, the feel.......Listen and learn!!
@ottolight Don't get me wrong. McLaughlin was brilliant during that time, but he wasn't a first call session player then, and he wasn't the prime example of how commercial guitar should be played. Lee was! We can debate from now till doomsday, but I stand behind my statement.
Hey guys! Just letting you know Lee Ritenour has a sweepstakes contest going on right now. You can win a Yamaha Acoustic Electric Guitar, Monster® Turbine Professional In-Ear Speakers, or even 110 Electric Guitar Strings. The contest is in collaboration with their new album, 6 String Theory. Check it out! Concordmusicgroup(DOT)com/FreeDownload/6stringtheory
I remember hearing this on the radio in the summer of '76. I was 15 at the time. This tune pretty much started my 30+ year love affair with all things jazz.
The good ole days. I was in elementary school during those years, but this and Grover Washington always stuck with me. I have this album. Well, actually it's my mothers.
@LazarusDurden Adam F deserves credit for taking it into a very different world. Completely different. No need to compare. I love both and have seen Lee in concert, as well as many favorite electro-pop artists. Love them all.
I like this version, but when you listen to the original with eric Gale on the strings, he was a magnificently talentled artist, and I have missed him since his passing. Lee is still the top dog out there, and what can I say about evryone else on this set?
This is certainly one of Bob's best tunes (and he has composed so many memorable songs)! Btw, this video looks like a pre-Fourplay performance: Harvey Mason's on drums, Ernie Watts on sax, Anthony Jackson on bass. "Westchester Lady" is originally from "Three" & the tune had Eric Gale on guitar.
Harvey puts the meat with the potatoes. I love the way his drums sound. So thick and fat. These are the true heavyweights of contemporary jazz or jazz funk or whatever you want to call it. This is what I grew up on. What a blessing. May God continue to bless Harvey, Anthony, Lee, Ernie & Bob.
You're welcome mon : ) I found something else for you. It seems Mr. King has been a busy bee.
Check out my 'Channel Comments', I've put up a link there as best I can and you'll see wh@ I mean. Just put in the usual full prefix 'ht blah etc ww.' and string the rest of it together. Let me know if you have any problems with it, ok.

@funkee1 sorry but that sounds pretty silly in regard to the countless outstanding guitarists in the world..
But if I had to choose just a single one, I would name Mahavishnu John Mc Laughlin between 1971 and 1973

@funkee1 personally I still bellieve that Lee`s best selling track has been " is it you " from 1980 or `81,
I think that Lee Ritenour caught the right time, he was at the right place at the right time,
a lot of middle aged baby boomer fans who remain stalwart , Joe Beck (RIP) used to be a brilliant commercial guitarist as well. kind regards

Once again im straying from the given path.
March 3rd 2000 - i got tickets to go see Bob James at THE BARBICAN CENTRE - LONDON.
It was Jazz FM,s 1oth anniversary! I was a keen keyboard player as well as a dj at the time, so thought lets go see a master pianist at work!
You should have seen the reception and standing ovation he got when he played this classic! EVERYONE was on there feet!
I still up to this day claim - to be a good dj, knowledge of ALL music is essential!
