  • Harvey Mason has such a tight groove...

  • Hermoso!!! No hay palabras... (Magnific)

  • Very cool. I met Lee Ritenour many years ago when he was in Seattle playing. Would be cool to have seen this live.

  • この曲好きすぎてやばいです

    とくにベースが

  • This session led to form a Fourplay!

  • anthony jackson on bass..

  • Cool song! One of my favorites!

  • Great musicians a great song!

  • 1 change and it's fourplay...add nathan east and remove a talented anthony jackson, amazing ...both!

  • anthony jackson on bass i believe now

  • ernie watts on horn

  • is that abe liboria on bass?

  • bob james piano, lee ritenour guitar, harvey mason drums...

  • Great band, very tasty and subtle.

Too bad we don't have the name of all the musicians and what instruments they play..

  • These guys were my favs going through college and I collected James, Ritenour and The Crusaders LPs, great times......

  • This was one of the best lineups I have ever seen Lee play with. He has been one of my top guitarists since 79 when I first heard him play. I read a review on Lee once that stated he was destined to only be a good session player. Glad Rit did not believe the guy either. Check out his newest CD 6 String Theory and listen to the future "worlds best" guitar players.

  • I love these guys. They are the BEST! God bless them and their families always!

  • Awesome

  • Saw Lee a few weeks back in Manchester, he was smokin, absolutely brilliant!

  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There was a time when Lee Ritenour was regarded as the best guitarist in the world. That solo shows us why! It's not just all the technique, it's the tone, the taste, the feel.......Listen and learn!!

  • @funkee1 sorry but that sounds pretty silly in regard to the countless outstanding guitarists in the world..

But if I had to choose just a single one, I would name Mahavishnu John Mc Laughlin between 1971 and 1973

  • @ottolight Don't get me wrong. McLaughlin was brilliant during that time, but he wasn't a first call session player then, and he wasn't the prime example of how commercial guitar should be played. Lee was! We can debate from now till doomsday, but I stand behind my statement.

  • @funkee1 personally I still bellieve that Lee`s best selling track has been " is it you " from 1980 or `81,

I think that Lee Ritenour caught the right time, he was at the right place at the right time,

a lot of middle aged baby boomer fans who remain stalwart , Joe Beck (RIP) used to be a brilliant commercial guitarist as well. kind regards

  • I have this lp!!!Bad MF!!!!!

  • Nice bottleneck by Lee

  • SOOOO FUNKY!!!! my heads gonna xlpode!

  • HARVEY MASON!!!! Laying down the beat like a champ.

  • Ernie Watts on Sax damn!! My man!!!!

  • adam f fo suree

  • legend

  • Harvey Mason is killin' those drums. So much talent on one stage!!

  • @Torihope No doubt man. He lays down the groove from beat one in this song.

  • Genius !

  • whos the drummer?

  • @leroyprc Don't you know Harvey Mason? He is one of the best drummers in the world, as Steve Gadd.

  • @catsduke lol, of course... i actually own 2 records of him ;-)

  • @leroyprc

    Harvey Mason

  • great!!!!!!!!

  • Great Bob James. Just Great...One of the greatest jazz musicians of all time.

  • WOW

  • One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite musicians. My nephew and I refer to each other as Bob and James!

  • IT'S Harvey Mason at Drums?

  • J'adore....!!!!

  • I like this rendition. Sometimes I wonder who is best playing James tunes, Ritenour or Carlton. I would like to see both in the same concert. Wow!

  • That's what I'm talkin' about!!!...One of my all-time favorites...

  • Amazing !

  • I think, it was just a trial for Bob James.

That's sure Larry is a very skill but no sentiment, just a professionnal.

Sorry for my english but I am sure you can understand

  • Bob James's improvisation is superb, nothing to be critic...

  • i wore this record out i loved it so much!!!!!!

  • one mint julep. ftw

  • Where are they playing?

  • absolutley the best ever.would love too see them play, are they still about? (sorry for the ignorance ;)

  • the man and the myth-bruce Li

  • This was in a movie about the life of the Greatest Martial Artist in History after Master YIP Man my hero Master Bruce "Juan Fan" Lee

    Mr. Chip's

  • bella esecuzione ma preferisco l'originale con grover washington jr.e il percussionista per eccellenza ralph Macdonald ed il fantastico Bob

  • This is nice but still can't touch the original.

  • this isss sooooo nostalgic

  • Rien n'est impossible. Pis tant !

  • Two Jazz fusion maestros... amazing...

  • WHAT YEAR DID THIS SONG COME OUT

  • I remember hearing this on the radio in the summer of '76. I was 15 at the time. This tune pretty much started my 30+ year love affair with all things jazz.

  • @ilovegoodsax lol same here, started my jazz lover affair as well at 15 only in 2005, nice to go back.

  • The good ole days. I was in elementary school during those years, but this and Grover Washington always stuck with me. I have this album. Well, actually it's my mothers.

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!So beautiful music.........

  • What year did this song come out?

  • I just love a certain Classy jazz n this is on my list of my fav artists

  • Mr. Harvey Mason is tight - as usual.

  • "This is Les Davis, on WRVR, where Jazz has never sounded better."

  • i saw that name and radio station.. i used to live in new york,, and that just bought back some great memories

  • Great memories never die.

  • oh lord oh lord

  • Bravo ...Anthony Jackson

  • adam f anyone?

  • Yep it is

  • kinda surprised someone noticed. was used in adam f "circles".

  • i noticed and what a tune- i think it was the tune that got me into jungle

  • @rzbloh The original is much, much better.

  • @LazarusDurden Adam F deserves credit for taking it into a very different world. Completely different. No need to compare. I love both and have seen Lee in concert, as well as many favorite electro-pop artists. Love them all.

  • @rzbloh

  • wicked chooon, not much else to say, real quality music

  • I'm waiting for the music industry renaissance! This is brilliance encapsulated in true artistry!!

  • Dj Jazzy Jeff sampled this track for "Here We Go Again" track! CLASSIC ISH!!

  • The captain wins again. Lee "Captain Fingers" Ritenour is STILL Number 1!

  • Classic Bob James

  • I like this version, but when you listen to the original with eric Gale on the strings, he was a magnificently talentled artist, and I have missed him since his passing. Lee is still the top dog out there, and what can I say about evryone else on this set?

  • Comment removed

  • I love funky Jazz, I guess it is the one area where different ethnic groups harmonize best, no room for racism there. And what a great result :)

  • This is certainly one of Bob's best tunes (and he has composed so many memorable songs)! Btw, this video looks like a pre-Fourplay performance: Harvey Mason's on drums, Ernie Watts on sax, Anthony Jackson on bass. "Westchester Lady" is originally from "Three" & the tune had Eric Gale on guitar.

  • you said it so glad to hear this one again. thanks for posting

  • ..putting my 2 cents in! ..Bob James is truly a genius, this does melt me!..and Lee backs this up,go well people!

  • 6.50 is the shit right there

  • Harvey puts the meat with the potatoes. I love the way his drums sound. So thick and fat. These are the true heavyweights of contemporary jazz or jazz funk or whatever you want to call it. This is what I grew up on. What a blessing. May God continue to bless Harvey, Anthony, Lee, Ernie & Bob.

  • such a funky track that appeals across the genres

  • I like how Adam F sampled this song.

  • In his song "Circles".

  • Low Profile sampled it for their song "No Mercy" as well.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • In my opinion that´s Bob James´ best song!

  • refreshing choon

  • This is quality stuff.

  • A thoroughly fine number but I must be going....Angela is calling, TAXI!

  • Check out Adam F, "Circles".

  • Once again im straying from the given path.

March 3rd 2000 - i got tickets to go see Bob James at THE BARBICAN CENTRE - LONDON.

It was Jazz FM,s 1oth anniversary! I was a keen keyboard player as well as a dj at the time, so thought lets go see a master pianist at work!

You should have seen the reception and standing ovation he got when he played this classic! EVERYONE was on there feet!

I still up to this day claim - to be a good dj, knowledge of ALL music is essential!

    Tam :)

  • I luv this song AND live is Westchester :P

Don't know who Gary King is though...?

  • ElGroover:

Thanks brother ! I've seen Anthony Jackson and Ralphe Armstrong and they do remind me of each other, still trying to find out where Gary King is?

  • Raggaemon

You're welcome mon : ) I found something else for you. It seems Mr. King has been a busy bee.

Check out my 'Channel Comments', I've put up a link there as best I can and you'll see wh@ I mean. Just put in the usual full prefix 'ht blah etc ww.' and string the rest of it together. Let me know if you have any problems with it, ok.

  • is that a grand with midi or just not live?

  • Yamaha MIDI Grand

  • One of my top five favs of Bob James...I remember this was used as the theme song to a local program here in Cleveland called Public Square...with Dave Buckel as the host.

  • MsTexas73----------a local public affairs station n New Orleans used it also during the 1970s.

  • MsTexas73--------------my bad...i mean a local New Orleans station also used this song as theme music for a public affairs show lol..

  • thanks for clarifying. :-)
