  • bunch of fatsos

  • To persons ain't happy, what a boring life..!

  • this one cuts a happy caper for true, Levene sounds like he worked with James Brown.

  • a bit too happy for me, their others are better

  • Awesome song and band!!!

  • Out-freaking-standing! Too bad there's no vid. Was there a vid for this one? I don't recall ever seeing one, back in the day...

  • Hey we are putting on a tribute event for Ari Up in Bristol, UK (30.07.11) with Tessa Pollitt, Hollie Cook, Viv Albertine, Adrian Sherwood and Mark Stewart! Please watch our ad youtube.com/watch?v=qE5BCjxH5gM and check out our facebook event if you are interested? Big Love

  • My mum doesn't even know who the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. are and she is 55! That was surprising. Eitherway I think both bands are great and I'm glad I found them. :)

  • @Gerardofaly What planet was your mum on when Punk was happening? Hehe. I was 14 in '77 and it is still like it was yesterday to me.

  • @JustTheGman That's what I asked her. xD I think she was living under a rock when Punk was happening. Most people think she introduced me to them, but 'nup. To be honest, I don't even know how I found out about them... o.O

  • Way underrated band...

  • I saw this song played at Great Woods, MA, iin 1989, age 13! Even better they toured with the Sugar Cubes and New Order! Ah, the memories!

  • Sid would not have been able to evolve. Listen to the bass on this song...its a part of the evolutionary chain that started with Jah Wobble having been in the band at the beginning. We would have had a PIL with Sid, but I doubt we would still be talking about them.

  • @Proteus311 you don't know that! sid was a boy when he died and i think he would have been quite capable of 'growing' and learning, therefore evolving.....poor sid....

  • me pone fe fe fe felizzzzz!!!!

  • if any has seen that movie "children of Men" you'll no what i mean but you no that guy with the dread locks in that movie/

johnny looks like him in that album cover

  • i read sid was supposed to be in the band but after he was so strung out at the last SP show, john said no way. i see what you mean by PIL as we know it wouldn't have happened, but in an alternate reality where sid could keep his shit together and actually play, what effect would he have had on the sound

  • What i'm fucking trying to say, is that Johnny changed when he broke-up whit the sex pistols, and he began to be like other person (I call this person "John Lydon")

Sorry if my english is bad, i'm spanish...

  • 1 Person's not happy.

  • JUST WONDERFUL. JOHNNY, RESPECT !!!

  • PIL rules

  • I am completely okay with johnny rotten being in a new wavey band. I actually like this incarnation better than the Pistols, dare I admit, in full risk of losing punk cred.

  • @Rakaizombie ye i kinda feel the same way. I feel Rise is better than New York

  • Summer 90. SoCal Venice Beach. Good place to experience PIL

  • I like listening to this track. It has that Britsh Punk & post punk sound that gives me a feeling I am at a concert. I was dancing in the kitchen while making my dinner. I think it is one of his best performances. I tried to find it on YouTube-live version...I'd like to see it...not available. I'm playing it over again.

  • Those of U who call this track !*&%#@...ect., U may not know how to really Rock! The front singer of PIL may not sing exactly in tune...but he is singing to the music. Is it any different than Rap-hip hop?

  • wtf is that shit?

  • So everything before - and including this was genius.

But this is where it ended.

  • I have forgotten just how good this song, and PIL are for that matter. John Lydon hits the target with authority and boldness like no other can. Long live the Rotten!!!

  • Well, I like PIL but, where is Johnny Rotten? It seems that there is only John Lydon, how do you do this after singing in a punk band? Well, whatever, I think PIL is a good band, but John isn't the same, Jonnhy Rotten died when the sex pistols died

Is it because Sid isn't there?

  • @TheFaustox just shut it. he's 1 person. johnny rotten is john lydon.

  • @TheFaustox u got me thinking man. Ye Rotten died in 79. that sux

  • @TheFaustox i do wonder how PIL would have been different if Sid was there

  • @uglythestarsare There would have been no PIL if Sid were there.

  • one fucking awsome live show...loved every minute of it..

  • I love 9, it was one of the few quality albums out at that time, along with "disintegration" (the Cure) and maybe "how will i laugh tomorrow, if i can't even smile today?" (Suicidal Tendencies).

  • Neophyte PIL listeners: Check out the early stuff - First Issue, Metal Box etc. Paris Au Printemps live is quite good too. It's great stuff, unconventional but very groovy.

  • I'm so hap hap hap hap hap hap happy ...=^.,.^=

  • It's Johnny who the hell cares what category it fits into......~laurel

  • thanks! one of my favorites)

  • New Wave.

  • I know some PiL fans were disappointed (no pun intended) with "9", when it came out but I loved it then and I still love it now.

Great party music. Play it at your next party and your friends will think you are very cool ;)

  • John Lydon makes me Hap-Hap-Hap-Happy.

    He's such a futurehead. (:

  • Great opening track to a classic album. This is awesome! I love PIL and this song is definitely one of their best.

  • my dad tried o introduce me to P.I.L. about 7 years ago when I was about 14. completely dismissed it then. rediscovered them today and i'm really eating my past words!

  • your dad is cool

  • @musikist

I listened to "Rise" for the first time this year (I'm 14) now I LOVE PiL.

  • @musikist I was that age when I got into Public image , great music

  • @musikist

A famous Mark Twain quote comes to mind because of your post:

"When I was 14, I thought my father was the most ignorant person on Earth. When I was 21, I was surprised about how much the old man had learned in 7 years."

  • @musikist Funny how a group like P.I.L. or a guy like Johnny will catch up to you isn't it? Kinda grows on ya.

  • @musikist Aye , me too

  • @musikist ur dad's cool lol

  • @musikist same thing happened to me, apart from now im 17 and was like 9 when he showed me them, too early haha

  • @musikist , P.I.L. are on tour now. re-united. Its Johnnys other band. His other band is The Sex Pistols. Greetings from RichardCyberPunk, born in 2025. timetraveller by nature.

  • @musikist im 14 and i love them

  • reminds me f the B52sa bit in sound

  • such a great intro! been searching for this song for a decade. thanks for posting!

  • PIL, maybe an underrated band.

  • I love John Lydon's voice. Nothing like it.

  • Killer song...so rockin'!!!!!!!!

  • this song makes me hap-hap-hap-happy :)

  • @greaterthenlife me too!!

  • great song:)

  • well you did!

  • My favorite PIL song!

  • I love this song..............

  • SIII! :)

  • im trying to get the album but its gonna cost me a fortune

i think its strange how the song ' happy? ' appears on the album '9 ' and not the album ' happy? ' lol

  • i got it on cassette and CD. The last track `Armada` is the best I reckon.

  • awesome song

  • great

  • its ok but not what I well....

  • One of my favorites ;)
