it annoys me seeing all these posts of "oh it was wrong of the mother to let her kid walk home alone at all! blah blah blah!" fact of the matter is people, it wasn't. It was a COMPLETLY different world back then and at the time there was nothing wrong with letting a kid walk home alone every day. I agree today you certainly can't let kids do that, but back then there was no real danger involved in doing that. As a matter of fact, it was common and you rarely heard of anything bad happening
This to me is really really weird. First of all, when a little girl is abducted in a car by a non relative, it is almost ALWAYS a sex related crime. But she wasn't sexually abused. Then we have the fact that she wasn't gone that long, maybe 10-15 minutes. So someone in 10 minutes randomly took her in their car & then threw her out....then placed her on the ground in broad daylight during a summer day with people outside? It is really really weird and I cannot figure out what happened.
Her jumping from the vehicle caused her injuries. The killer pulled over and checked the girl, probably thinking she was dead. Not wanting to get caught, the killer got back into their vehicle and drove away. Around this time, the boy was walking back down the road, looking for his sister, discovered that she was missing, and went to tell his mother. We know the rest from there.
Here's what I think happened. Something was happening at the vacant lot. The girl walked by it and saw the activity. She was then kidnapped as a result. This all happened while the mother and son were driving back. The killer tried to drive away with the girl. Around this time, the mother and son arrived at home and were inside the house when the vehicle with the girl drove past. The girl then managed to escape the hold of the killer and tried to escape from the vehicle by jumping from it.
i think the the mother LET the child ride on the back of her truck, the kid fell off on the way to the house and the mother told some bullshit story to get out of it because she figured shed go to prison for murder or even severe child neglect, even tho it was an accident.she even told her son to go along with her story or the police would take her away and he'd never see her again.
@80amysue There are a few problems with that theory.
1) The police dogs tracked her scent to the vacant lot.
2) There is NO reason the mother would have let Katherine ride on the back of the vehicle, especially with her injured thumb.
3) Even if the mother had convinced her son to go along with the false story, for that reason, then what is keeping him silent today? The boy would be in his early twenties today.
@DarkXaven maybe. the thing is, if she had been to that vacant lot before then of course her scent would be there.also, bein a country girl myself, we use to ride on the back of vehicles like that all the time.even so young. heck no one was around so we couldnt get in trouble and it was fun.
@80amysue continued.....whats keeping the boy silent today,if what i think happened? im sure he loves his mother and would be scared to death of her being in prison for the rest of her life for lying to police, child neglect, and endangerment leading to death.
@80amysue Scents don't last forever. They do fade away fast. Also, it was shown why she couldn't have grabbed onto the vehicle, as it would have been too hot for her to hold on to, plus her broken thumb made it impossible. She would have fallen off closer to the mailboxes. Also, according to an article, the head injury was too severe to be caused by just falling from a vehicle. According to the coroner, she was struck several times on the head. This disproves your theory, and mine.
It's hard to believe the mother when she says someone kidnapped the girl and murdered her when she herself remarks that the body was found in a staged way.
The theory of someone murdering a girl in a quiet highclass neighborhood and fixing the scene in such a short period of time is unbelievable.
So it makes me wonder whether or not she made up that detail, maybe a trick by the mind, as when she recalls that day was "exceptionally quiet". Maybe it helps her not to think of the accident theory.
@rsuarezp But if that were the case, why would they BOTHER to place her out on the road? Wouldn't they just take off in fear of getting caught? If a pedophile or a person trying to abduct you somehow let you jump out of the car, they would just take off. They wouldn't take the time to move your body and lay you out on the road nice and neatly. That to me sounds like something someone who knew her personally would do. No random abductor would do this.
no matter how old ur kid is. you don't leave them alone. to even walk home even if its for a few blocks or nothing. this is why so many kids are find kidnapped and or dead. not only do you blame the person who took them and or killed them. you blame the parents for letting it happen by leaving them alone or letting them walk home alone at a young age. u never go any where alone. always have someone with you. they can't get u both and one can get help.
@stacyviacomsuckss What you say applies even more so in the USA,from watching all the programs where people get shot, raped, mugged, kidnapped etc in the USA.It seems every town, even the tiny ones, have their resident perverts, drug dealers, gang members and gun nuts lurking round the corner. You see a street of houses and there's no way of telling what's in their basements, bondage dungeons, meth labs, personal armouries, and kiddie porn studios. They exist because you see them on the news!
3 things I don't like 1: The mom doesn't see anything wrong with letting her little girl walk alone on a regularly. 2: Mom " I know that's its never a good idea to move somebody, if you don't know what their injuries are... but I just couldn't leave her there..." [having driven to the emergency BEFORE, knowing the way VERY well, I felt confident I was able to drive THAT DRIVE. ..." (why are you taking her there again? & 3: how can appear to be so emotionless?
The little girl on the back of the truck makes no sense to me. Check this: 1. If she fell the mother or the brother would have heard her scream. Note that the windows were down on that hot day. 2. The way the body was supposedly found does not seem like a way a body would be found if she had fallen from a moving vehicle. 3. Isn't it a fact that the mother did in fact see the daughter walking the opposite direction? Her on the back of the Suburban just doesn't seem to me like what really happene

I'm angry at the parent. I can't help it. I just don't like this issue about letting a small, young girl, "feel like a big girl" by letting her walk alone. ~ Another question is, why did the girl have a broken thumb and a splint? What's going on? Did I miss that part?
At 6:16 she said the door opens when you pull on it, however when you put a suburban in drive it locks all the doors even the back so it's possible she could have held on to the door handle.
Hmm I dont know about that investigator....That back door wont pop open if it's locked duh lol. And lil girl like that could fit both here hands on that handle to hold on. I dont think they should dismiss the accident theory....

I'm almost positive she was kidnapped and tried to escape by jumping out and injured herself. It seems like the most likely scenario.

If the mother did do it, maybe she will make the boy mad enough one day (when he is older) that he will black mail her with what he saw.
