Sobriety, and the struggles that accompany it; such as "slips." Are really captured by this album. Maybe it's just me but, having my share of slips, what he is writing about feels familier (and yes I cant' spell wirth dooky)
the slip is about trent feeling isolated and afraid in a way he never thought he would. downward spiral was concept and exploration. from that point on, trent started to really fall in a hole, and with teeth, as well as this album, chronicles that dark place he really ended up in.
What a badass album... I recently gave it a play on some headphones and really relaxed and let go, I had fucking chills by the end. Give it a try, it's wild. NIN is really doing some incredible stuff lately.
Well I'll admit it's growing on me but probably will never be my favorite. I think it was an unfortunate first impression but those are usually the ones that stick with me. Now that I hear it in context with the rest of the album I see where he was going with it...but yeah...still don't care for it much.
Completely agree here. The more I listen to this album the more I realize how brilliant it is. "Lights in the Sky" is the best thing EVER. The piano melody is simply but strong, the lyrics are beautiful and haunting, and way it melds into "Corona Radiata" is absolutely flawless.
I don't think all the music is suffering. No, Echoplex isn't the best (in fact I hate it) BUT I love that after all these years Trent is still kicking around new ideas. The difference here is that he is no longer under contract and is able to release however and whenever he wants. Instead of being hunkered down for years and years at a time we're seeing how he works in the NOW. I'm all for seeing this side of things even if it means I don't like each and every thing released.
Finally someone else who sees Echoplex as crap. I was beginning to think I was the only one. Perhaps you should check out my review of it from the other day when it was released.
The Fragile was a beautiful album but Trent was in a very dark place kicking some bad addictions. While I would love to hear another album of that nature I do prefer him happy and healthy. What he's doing now seems to be making him happy so I'll stick with it and see where his next revolution takes us.
Wheres YOUR review? Cause when i became a NIN listener, was around With Teeth, but then discovered his old stuff before that album, i was highly impressed with his other work. I wish i was into it now,......but i just dont like it. Probably because it has no feeling and he is making music way to fast and generically. But i still respect him, he can do whatever he wants.
i love and respect trent, but your full of shit. trent had nothing to do with mechanical animals, he didnt produce or write any of it. he didnt write any manson albums. he did co produce 2 of them(portrait of an american family and antichrist superstar) and would contribute some instrumentals to those, the reason why early manson shit was successful was because twiggy ramirez and manson together make kick ass music.
yeah he helped. but everybody has help. trent was a janitor at a rec. company and the owner let him use the studio for free. so the owner helped trent. everybody has help.
I became a huge fan around With Teeth too. I knew a few of their songs before but I don't think I was really ready for the issues Trent was tackling at the time the previous albums were coming out so I avoided them. But don't be so quick to write off this new stuff. "In This Twilight" & "Lights in the Sky" both have the ability to make me cry. "Discipline" is catchy and the lyrics seem very straightforward and honest. Almost seems directly addressed to his fans. And I love all this interaction.
He is rebelling against the music industry....AND THATS IT! He could careless of how his music sounds anymore because......well............hes already a freaking millonare......(am i jealous)..........FUCK YES!
(pt1) That's bullshit. He's been writing non-stop since [WT] & realizing he didn't need to be a fucked up druggie do this & [WT]was still a few years before his break from the record company. He may have been planning on doing _something_ when freed to say "Fuck you" to the record label sharks but I don't think he could have envisioned what's gone down in the past few months.
(pt2)If he didn't care then he could write some Limp Biskit "Break Shit" song & be the petulant child but no, he's keeping the integrity of the music & releasing what he feels is good work to continue on these paths: new experimentation of the NIN sound and new distributions methods without all the red tape bullshit.
Musically, this reminds me of the 80s a bit.

Not a bad song. This song reminds of the two previous albums released. Vocal delivery is like in some songs off WT and YZ.

Can i suggest for him to get back with Manson?
MekanikalVoid 3 years ago
No. Manson may need Trent but I don't think Trent needs Manson. Besides Jeordie's already returned. Let's just leave the family reunion at that.
Manson lost me years ago and no amount him fucking Evan Rachel Wood in music videos is going to reel me back in. UGG! No thank you.

the best album of marilyn manson was wrote by trent reznor(mechanical animal)Trent started his career clearly...In my opinion...
slayerofadream 3 years ago 2
I agree that Reznor started Manson's career but you've got the wrong album, my friend. El Rezo produced "Antichrist Superstar".
PlacesParallel 3 years ago
What? Reznor produced ACSS. El Rezno must have co-produced. Reznor even played some instruments in about 3 songs in ASS.
