I think Mueck is very talented and he's does these scupltures so well.

Each element of his work has a purpose, including the size, go read up on him! Then you will truly appreciate his work. Not just the aesthetics, the meaning too.

Porn is another issue. In Germany porn is defined as "the direct depiction of sexuality or sexual action with the goal to arouse the viewer". So, nipples alone are rarely porn. And sometimes art takes on the appeal of porn to convey certain messages. So, basically people need the ability stay calm when they see something they don't understand at the first look ^^

The problem with Ron Mueck is that his sculptures emanate a degree of negativity. However realistic and superb they are, watching them, in my opinion, brings people down. Maybe this is the reason why Mueck is not proportionately popular to his skills.

Don't know what to feel about this kind of art.

Besides the ooooooohs and aaaaaahs for the hyperrealistic achievement it doesn't move me at all.

As far as i can see he's still making special effects for the eye as he used to do for the film industy. But not for the brain searching for the the deeper dimension.

I really like his plaster studies. They are poetry as it should be. He's overtopping himself with his hyperrealistic approach.

The sculptures are interesting but no Michelangelo here. Very slick, slightly cartoonish and once you get past the wow that looks so real, there is not much to them. his female figures are better than his males. Anatomy is not 100% right on the males. Rendering something to look real does not a masterpiece make.

I agree. The pregnant female is NOT that realistic either: her breasts would be heavier, the areola (nipple) would be much darker and bigger, and the belly would be lower. But hey. Difficult to not "arrange" reality at all.

Michelangelo wasn't that great,he couldn't get the propotion right.Plus, he was never a realism sculptor. Personaly, I think Bernini is THE best, he could do Greek, Baroque and Realism. No other sculptors had such skills or diverse styles as Bernini did

Michelangelo was a too much of a jack of all trades and sculpted and painted too scientifically. He never understood the use of exaggeration and subtlety in art to create the illusion of realism. Also he was a jack-of-all trades. But he was still very skilled. But Bernini could run circles around him, but bernini did nothing but sculpture.

what are you talking about? Bernini did architecture, painting, and metal work. and how can you say that Michelangelo didn't understand the use of exaggeration and subtlety? One giant trend you can see in his art is the exaggeration of the musculature. You can't take the view that realism is better art, or to judge an artist by his style. All of these artists created in many different ways, not just in the styles of their most famous paintings.

This man has the capacity to define a new aesthetic basis for figural sculpture. Maybe he already has accomplished this.

It comes perilously close to sculpture as editorial illustration however, the risk is that the conceptual narrative overwhelms the fact of the sculptural experience.
