@egdrake fascists? im sure your bitching has some foundation in fact, but clearly they (and me as a supporter) are not fascists. but please message me back with a logically structured rebutle. but if you support what we attack i wont hold my breath on that...
I thought after a while the "enchantment" of Luke's voice would wear off, I was wrong! Im more addicted to his voice than before, I just dont get tired if his music cant help myself, what can one do :)
Sweden needs more Joe Hill's especially today...the country is going down, thanks to incompetent politicians and a people that dont know when to say "enough is enough"!
incompetent politicians you should live in n ireland they dont have a clue we have no hope with these bigots on both sides luke kelly is the best later
I think I agree; but Paul Robeson had to prove his conviction with his lifestyle ,not just with his voice. Moreover, the ideals he shared with Joe Hil weren't just sentiments in a song but convictions that prevented him from singing in the West. As you are aware, he was made berufsverboten for his political beliefs.
sebreathnach, are you saying that Luke Kelly only sang this song but didn't really understand it?
Luke Kelly and Paul Robeson were both communists, of different generations, born in different countries, but both with a passion for peace, the end to discrimination and for socialism.
Luke Kelly had plenty of credentials to show his understanding and sympathy for the sentiments behind this song.
I hope people realise that history is happening again.

It is really nice to hear this song again. I last heard it during the 84-85 miners strike. Ex Durham miner.

Why is it that I prefer the real thing, Paul Robeson?
sebreathnach 4 years ago
Paul Robeson was unsurpassable. Luke Kelly is equally brillant. Why quibble? they were both gifts to music. Just enjoy.
