Look at Steve Vai...an example Guthrie has brought up many times as the ideal guitarist gig. Steve runs his own record label! He plays whatever he wants and has his own image, and he's one of the biggest names in the industry. So if there's a will, there's a way :) GO GUTHRIE!!

I'm sure someone as smart as Mr Govan here wouldn't sign any contract that handed creative control over to the record company. But on the other hand - and this is in no way a criticism of his frankly mind-boggingly technical and muscial abilities - instrumental guitar music has very few big stars, and a limited audience. i just received his creative guitar 1 % 2 books in the mail a few days ago... incredibly fun to read.. even if you are a seasoned player already it's still full of bits and pieces of hints and information that is very interesting and very fun to read. it has definately renewed my interest in the guitar a lot, i think those books are going to become pretty worn out

While playing the Gibson he suddenly became a great musician instead of an athlete of fast hammer-offs and quick tapping. Seriously noticed this in other video too when he was playing an SG, sounded way better than all other stuff I've seen so far. Dynamics of glued neck is slower and suits his style better.

No seriously a glued neck gives a slower attack but longer sustain while a set-neck gives quicker response but tone die off earlier. It would suit Govans style to spend some time playing non-trem Gibsons to improve melodic emphase and breathing space. As done he will grow to legend status. His recent Tele playing is ok but tone of ES and SG (seen in other video) sounds more correct. Hopefully GG reads this and gives it a try.
Well, his playing is superb all over but while holding the Gibson you could see him as more likely part of a legendary soulful orchestra of some kind. Shredding is ok too but even Atkins managed to sweep pick a Gretch back in 55! When reaching this level of technique a more relaxed approach could be beneficial etc.
When I met him at namm 2008, he seemed a little wird and grumpy, he's my fav and don't want his personality to ruin it for me. Does any one who met him have anything to say!?

Totally dude, that's what all these guys complaining are doing, frustrated in their inabilities, and what does it have to do with patriotism anyways, it's music, the universal language of the human kind, There are no boundaries and certainly no room for shit like that. Enjoy the music if it's good music, why does it matter that it came from Europe or Asia? Doesn't make sense to me.

I think that the 'Blitzkreig' backing track has a sort of 'Ramones' feel to it and the 'Trial by Fire' is a little like "Burn the Witch' by 'Queens of the Stone Age'. Just guessing mind. They have called it the contemporary series after all!
Wherever they got the inspiration for these backing tracks, I can't wait to get them and get underneath Guthrie's bonnet! Ooh err missus!
