To help battle torque twist I bought a pair of orange Integy springs and placed them in the rear. Preloaded the rear right spring with spacers (side it twists on). Very little torque twist. You can try using thicker shock oil in rear right shock like 80wt to prevent twist.
I myself prefer changing out the pinion gears (takes only 30 seconds!) 16T for crawling torque and 28T for bashing fun! Oh and if your esc can handle it, buy a 3S lipo for torque AND insane wheel speed!
@Evandiego I got one a while back too. What I did was mount the rear shocks on the front side of the shock tower instead of the standard rear side, makes a world of difference to kill off the torque twist. Also I lowered the front CG a lot by screwing the battery box in from the top of the box near the standard lower mount holes. That made the front really heavy though so I mounted much harder (purple) springs. 65wt shock oil feels a bit bumpy on high speed right now.
i have also replaced the servo for a more powerfull one, used the shock spacers that come in the kit to stop torque twist, added weights to the wheels to make it more stable and keep the front end down when climbing. for more traction i have shaped the back tyre foams into star patterns to make the tires slightly softer for added grip. the truck is really good now but not sure if i should put the reduction gearbox on or not?
I wouldnt get the reduction gear box. Adds mass yes but it sits higher and will affect your CG making it tip easier on steep climbs. I got the largest HPI spur gear 96T (more torque part #6996) and have a 16T, 18T, 21T (stock), 23T, and 26T pinion. Less teeth on pinion gear more torque but less speed. For strictly crawling I use the 16T or 18T...the King has gobs of torque! You gotta be careful though cuz if one of your wheels is in a bind and pull to much throttle, drive shafts break!
Ya i took mine and replaced the servo with a high torque metal servo because the stock one sucks and then i put on the transmission upgrade and now it can not be stopped.
how is steering and can you plzz make a review?
