There are three ways to do it. 1st, get an MTS codec like CoreAVC $15 . Then movie maker can edit and covert directly. 2nd, convert the files to a usable format (lots of converters out there). 3rd, use a program like Premiere Elements 7, ulead videostudio, etc..
Yes it is. When I look at the Properties under WMP it shows up as:1920 x 1080 8.19 Mbps
TMPGenc reports the same information.
The Camera also supports 24Mbps, the max that AVCHD SUPPORTS. You have to have a fairly heavy duty PC to handle the load. Also, You can plug the sd card directly into a PC3 and the files play right away, looks really sharp. But to show them from a WEB site, you have to kick it down to 30p for best results. The file I upload was done with Vista Movie Maker, 30i default
