when strumming with a pick, use ur thumb and pointy finger when holding the pick ! trust me its way easier!!! :) anyways good first try

When you strum just move your elbow, don't move your wrist at all. The only time you need to move your wrist is when you are playing single notes, not chords. Hope this helps. (and try to let the tip of the pick just scrape the strings, it will sound better.)
