As far as I know, X2 and X3 are the only sandbox space games with the vastness that you describe. Though there IS one mission in X3 that requires you to go planetside, but you only operate a turret on a ship that is careening between buildings.

actually in popular opinion only thing better is graphics overall freelancer has a better feel to it and easier to control. X3 is a bit too complicated.

I bought this game but have nt had the time t see what its all about though id imagine its a quality game. Some o the levels ya go on have no briefing on what ya supposed t do. D ya just jump in there and see what ya come across? And is this game moddled around the old classic "Elite?"

the main goal of this game isn't so much to follow the campaign, but more to build a commercial and military empire. So ultimatly you end up with a large fleet of ships

Yes, Elite was indeed the main inspiration for this game. Actually, you are encouraged to just forget the storyline and play it like a true sandbox game. It hasn't those miriads of systems like Elite had, but it's still pretty big. I played the previous title in the serie a bit, X2.

download the patch 1.3 and all the lag goes away, i now play it in the highest resolution and it doesnt lag at all now.

I guess I don't get this. I can destroy a capital class ship by myself in under four minutes with just an M3; of course my Nova is armed with eight front mass drivers and 80 ammunition blocks, a little expensive, but ten times as effective.

What's so special in this video? Attacking other ships in fully armed Nova isn't any bravery ;P. Try to attack ships in a lower class ships, like M4 Buster or even M5 Octopus, then (if you'll be still alive) return back and put a video. Good luck ;)

yeah, i know darkstar one, didn't bought it, kinda scare about the re playability of the game. A little like freelancer... once you finish the single player, doesn't worth coming back unless nostalgic

Not quite, actually. You can try out different reputations and different ship configurations, for instance.

I will admit the shield effects are the worst I've seen, though. Probably the best shield impact effects I've seen are from Haegemonia: The Solon Heritage.

The weapon sound effects in this game aren't that good themselves, though.
