i honestly could not bear to watch that calf being skinned alive. i had to fast forward the video during that part. how in the work did the USDA inspector not punch that guy in the face? i don't understand how someone could be so cruel to these animals. there is an ethical way to kill cattle for veal or steak and this is clearly not it.

Veal calves are the direct by product of the dairy industry. The easiest way for anyone to take a stand against the cruelty in this video is to boycott dairy and meat. The fact is that the dairy industry and this calf torture industry go together. Dairy cows are continually pregnant, meaning their milk is full of female hormones which people ingest. The male calves are useless on a dairy farm, so they are disposed of right after birth, chained up in veal crates, kept anemic and living in their feces and urine for months, then are forced on weak unused legs to hobble off to their brutal slaughter. It's why I'm vegan. I could not watch this video.

Ironically, Hitler was staunchly against slaughter houses for cows; he opposed meat eating entirely out of kindness to every type of animal except humans. He favored slaughterhouses for humans.

I am a butcher, and we do perform humane slaughter. However, anyone, who doesn't think that the happenings on this video are horrendous, is soulless. Workers at this plant broke a multitude of laws, and showed a complete lack of character. The people present in this video, and anyone else who treats animals in this manner, deserves to go to prison. Especially the USDA inspector; since, it is his job to make sure that things like this never happen in the first place, or persist if they do happen.

It is impossible to kill hundreds / thousands of animals every day and no longer regard them as living and sensitive creatures. They also the transport which are a Calvary for them and the cattle markets or animals are horribly beaten. The animals where I work, a University Meat Lab and Butcher Shop, are humanely treated. No abuses them. Also most cattle raised for beef have very good living conditions during the time they are the rancher or farmers place. However, I agree with you that the treatment of animals in other sectors of the meat industry, i.e. poultry, veal, pork, beef after it leaves the ranch, is awful and needs to change.

I've been on the fence for a long time. This pushed me over. I'm not a knee jerk type, and I don't harbor illusions about how meat is processed. In order for us to eat meat, we know something's got to die. This callous treatment goes beyond the pale. You don't have to disrespect or torture an animal in order to eat it. My father grew up on a farm and had to slaughter from time to time. The treatment of the calves in this video was like nothing he'd ever seen or heard of. This sucks.
