  • Although some might not believe this, four years truly makes a difference. Vonage has changed a lot of it's policies, including hassle-free cancellation, now. Of course they're going to try to convince you to stay, but they're not going to make you pay to cancel like they used to. The customer service also bypasses AT&T's by far. Depending on which call center you reach, agents will even followup with you until any issue you have is fully resolved.

  • Vonage absolutely sucks. If you want crappy phone service without lying, useless customer service try Majic Jack. Majik Jack phone quality sucks just as bad, but they are much cheaper to quit when you quickly decide that it also sucks.

  • Excellent. I went through this process today. They tried to charge me $79.99 for equipment I already paid for and a contract I already completed. It took a second phone call to get my service cancelled without having to pay $79.99 for MY EQUIPMENT for a contract I had already completed. Vonage is horrible.

  • Oh man, I could not hold myself from laughing. I have little something with vonage. I used them service for more than year. I ship the modem to my family overseas, so my family can keep in touch with me. I was paying $32. Sometimes the sound get bad I can not hear anything. I switched to t-mobile, it much better and just $10. My mom loved t-mobile.

    I cancelled my credit card so they could charge me for stopping payment. They called me but I do not answer their call. Almost 2yr with t-mobile :-)

  • hi im a quality control associate in a call center Vonage Inbound sales. when i was hired it was 30 day money guarantee back. even if you have 2 months free the 30 day back is included in the 2 months free so if you called to cancel after 2 months that is over 30 days that why they will charge you for a disconnection fee

    I called their customer service today for assistance with adding a second line. I was led in circles. Every time I asked a Yes or No question the foreign Vonage call center agent answered my question with another question!

    VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Eventually, I gave up and hung up.

  • I feel for you. I know someone who was charged hundreds of dollars more for services they never ordered. They neglected to watch their bill as I advised them and later found Vonage cannot be trusted.

    While there are people who have had no problems there are probably more who have been ripped off. The do provide a service but they find ways to overcharge in many cases. When they say it's policy tell them that's not acceptable and keep them on the phone. You'll get the supr in about an hour.

  • This is exactly what happened to me today. I hate these guys. I hope you notified your credit card company and disputed all of the charges.

  • I just canceled w/ vonage. Went w/ magic jack. Have had the magic jack for 2 weeks now, no problems. I have a 6meg d/l and 1.5 meg upload, and my vonage would still echo, etc. They were so rude. This video is not a single person experience. This is a very real experience. They are like robots, no dealing w/ them. I paid $ 114.00 to cancel ( $39.99 for canceling and $70 that was waived for their POS equipment.) ...horrible.

  • My family has 9 vonage accounts, and everything is working really good. we were with ATT before we were charged $200 for disconnection fee. I thing $39.99 is better than $200..

  • wow this is nasty, they ported over my bosses numbers, but when i wanted to change a mac address on one of the devices i had, it took them 5 attempts. their service is totally horrible, go with a magic jack folks, they can soon port your number, never go with vonage, it's a complete joke.

  • your experience is bringing back horrid memories of when i had problems with the service. they accused me of misusing the service. i was using the service to call one person in england. and i had their call forward feature set up after like five rings to forward calls to my cell phone. how that is misusing the service they offer and advertise is beyond me. but they can determine at their discretion what "normal usage" is as stated in their TOS. DON'T USE VONAGE!!

  • you did call to cancel your account within the trial period but since it took you more than 10 min you hung up !!, so if your account never got closed, since you couldnt with for more than 10 min... what are you specting then !?!? you also returned the device to the wrong address, even it was a wrong address you should get those 79.99 back, but not the cancellation fee.

  • I live in las Vegas Nv and Vonage has been working since we switch from Sprint I had never had a problem with this baby. I think the problem is the area where you live.

  • Eh, I read all the horror stories with people just like this guy and was scared shitless of even attempting it.

    However I took the plunge and have no complaints.

    I believe most people's problems stem from their shitty internet connection. (besides those that have problems with the company).

    I hope I never encounter any problems. I've had them for over a year now and it's only went out once and that was due to a power outage BUT all home calls were transferred to my cell phone so no worry.

  • Well, I called today, monday, and the rep said he couldn't find my information because they were doing "system maintenance" and that I should call back in 1 hour. I did and they won't give me my money back (I dont know why they even charged me if they thought I wanted 2 months free!) after I hung up on that rep to call my bank, they charged me $39.99!!!!

  • I have had Vonage for almost 2 years and last month it wasn't working for almost a week, I had to keep going to payphones to call them and they couldn't help me at all because I wasn't next to my computer, one rep even suggested that I buy or borrow someones cell phone so that I could be near the vonage device and he could walk me though it. Well, it finally started working again, no thanks to them. My Fiance and I decided to cancel our account and just get regular phone service.

  • Well, I called to cancel and they did not want to lose me as a customer, so the rep offered 2 months free and I said no. She said she would cancel my account. I owed the $29.99 for december and asked her if they were going to take it out of my account, I told her that I didn't have the money right now, she said that's fine, call back and pay when you can. I said "so, you guys aren't going to touch my account right?

  • and she replied "No". I thought that was really nice of them. That was on 12/26, on 1/02 they took $59.00 out of my account! I called them and they said that when I called to cancel, I opted for the 2 free months, I told them that was a mistake!!! The rep said to call back on Monday when an "Account Manager" would be there, I asked if they would be able to reimberse me and she said yes.

  • you followed the 30 to 60 return policy. u returned it back with tracking on box. they want charge u 39.00 terminating your contract. the lady dident listen to u. the money they have taken already is there a way to get it back. if not.   • Vonage is dishonest and should be avoided. Once they have your credit card they overcharge. I know someone who was billed for 2 business lines when he ordered the $39 business and fax. Unfortunately, he didn't watch his bill so he was charged $90/month for several months.

A fellow commente earlier this worked for him in setling a Comcast issue.You know as much money as these folks make you think thy would realize that a little bit of good ol human to human service can save them millions in advertising.

  • To those all read my posting.... Just read the "Terms of service" url in the home page and refer the section which states that 8.7 which states that u will be charged 39.99, if u cancel after the money back gurantee period.. and you will also charged for the router the Vonage box.

    Cancelling is simple... dont call. just keep on emailing emailing on the customer services stating that u need to cancel the Vonage Account. They say everything, but never gave up. I did and fucked off the Vonage...

    It's amazing how the training they give you barely suffices to overcome situations like this one, how a million dollar company's logic is so fucked up that if the last retard didn't leave a memo on the account you as an agent can't do anything about it, and how 60% of the charges are hidden from view...

    Talking from this side, believe me... you see things on a whole new level :(

  • There is a right of recession in the states here it is for consumers who feel buyers remorse. I did cause vonage said you can keep your old number so i ordered.Equipment is about to arrive and they email me 'you cant keep your old number' They lied refund me please.They said in the infomercial, You can keep your old number. They lied!

  • i used to be vonage cust myself and i also cancelled my service since i let go of my dsl.guys lets give this people a break.they do follow certain company rules as explained to me.they disconnect and charge me all those stuff since thats the only way to do it,then refunded it to me as well.

  • Why should I give them a break they have not been giving me or others? I am still waiting for the refund of hundreds of dollars they have taken from me and I never even made one call nor used there equipment once.

Vonage DOUBLE CHARGED ME EVERY MONTH, then IGNORED my calls, emails, and CERTIFIED MAIL until I was finally forced to file FRAUD charges with my bank and shut off their access to my account (after they'd taken an extra $160 and failed to correct the matter). Even today, Vonage still tries double billing me each month. I've cut off their access to my funds. Shockingly bad behavior for any company.

    To anyone reading this: SAVE YOURSELF AND *DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER VONAGE!!!!*

  • most states have a consumer protection bureau or division I have found hem to usually be better than the BBB.Because they are the law and will fight for you and often times get you your money back ,..not always,..true.If vonage doessnt stop making claims they cant back up. Many states will ask them to cease and desist from doing business with their residents.

  • I've been having problems with them too. Defective box I was stuck with for two years dropped calls to voicemail which I should have received. Finally the box went into an endless reset loop and when I tried to cancel the account rather than buy a new one they offered me one free.

    So I waited, and waited, no shipping notice and no box and now they claim they never promised one, I've just been paying for a service I can't use and waiting for a lie. Canceled, if it sticks. Sometimes it doesn't.

  • Get a consumer complaint form usually through your government or states attorney general division/office they will help you resolve this. I too have too go this route.

  • I had a bad experience with vonage also, but not this bad, althought they are very rude people. I was able to cancel my "service" and I returned my equipment but they haven't returned any money to me. The stole only about 70 dollars from me. I immediately canceled my debit card and got a new one. YES, VONAGE IS A SCAM! That is the only guarantee with vonage.

  • if you disco your account w/in mbg vonage will give you a refund. but if you disco the accnt outside mbg they will chrge you $39.99 for a disco fee. that is in their terms of service ok!

  • WELCOME to VONAGE HELL! I tried to cancel my vonage account and it took me 10-15 minutes to TRY and cancel. After about 10 minutes of the rep trying to convince me to please stay I put her on hold for about ten seconds and the hefer hung up on me. Then only to call back to be on for another five minutes with no luck.

  • I shut off my home phone and switched my cell to "Working Assets CREDO," as soon as I found out that they were breaking the law and supporting Bush! CREDO is the only way to go! (smile)

  • What is working assets credo, what areas do they service?Did you know Quest was one o the few that would share info with homeland/spy security,I was proud of them for that to.

  • You need to ask some professional advice to remedy this situation. There has to be a venue which deals with you at least remotely fairly. As a first line, maybe some consumer dept. of govt. agency can give you that advice. Here in Canada we also have small claim courts which deals with these issues relatively simply and quickly if you want to charge back the money, you were already fleeced off, because they reneged on their promises.
