  • Whoops! O2H. He he he!

  • awesome

  • I think this is old. A bit confusing also, considering the water molecules are incorrectly depicted.

  • Those water molecules look like horrified faces. Understandable, since water isn't O2H...

  • ho2 ;> ???

  • Some maniac just sucked up the letter D off my keyboard with his vacuum cleaner and I shear to God the key vanished from the face of the earth!! Quantum field that!

  • nikola tesla harnessed the cosmic rays in the vacuum, thats where most of the energy will come from when making the cosmic ray motor. i made a simple example. tesla made a really powerful device, the comic rays are powerful especially when able to be slowed to a speed where energy can be tapped from them!

  • 2-16 watter is not 2xO + 1xH.. its H20 so 2xH + 1xO isnt it?

  • Comment removed

  • i checked wikipedia and it says that water contains of 2 Hydrogens and only one Oxygen... hm?

  • You are correct. Very silly oversight by the speaker.

  • I believe that simply by expecting to find a smaller particle, or by expecting to find more galaxies, we are literally creating our own universe...anybody dig?

  • careful, not all that is called a particle is a real full particle. Check the life time those "particles" have and you will find the electron as a basic particle and others are more like fragments (parts of particles).

  • the intenity of the empty space creates the mass and the anergy, that explains thos particles that apear from nowhere

  • Now,how dumb is that,not knowing what the molecule of water is !!! :D (HO2 instead H2O)

  • Can somebody answer me this please?

Why doesnt the gluon, photon and graviton interact with the higgs field yet the W and Z bosons do?

Please try and get back to me.

    Thanks.

  • while the photon theoretically doesn't interact with the Higgs field, the gluon, which might have a very slight mass of a few MeV/c^2, does. As a result of it's very tiny mass, it's short range (similar to the w and z bosons) and is confined to the nucleus. Mean while, the photon has no mass and infinite range.

  • damn this guys knows his physics...they are all the same, right? just different vibrations of the same wavE?

  • Theoretically, the higgs(I mean higgs in standard model) term only apper in the Electro-Weak sector and has nothing to do with the gluon. The reason that the higgs doesnot coupling to the photon is that SM higgs is electrically neutral. But keep in mind that photons and gluons can interact with higgs boson indirectly via the vacuum polarization of fermions pair.

  • These indirect interaction makes the gluon fusion a main process of higgs production in LHC and higgs to gamma gamma a hot topic. As to the graviton, I don't know. Graviton is a controversial particle so far even in theories. If graviton exist, it should couple to the higgs directly.

  • I could answer you, but I'm busy packing for Stockholm.

  • I have some questions regarding the "w" and "z" bosons - alleged "mediators" of the "weak nuclear force". Where do these particles live? Inside all atoms? Inside all radioactive atoms? Inside some radioactive atoms? Inside no atoms? Do they pervade all space? Where are they exactly?

  • the entire higgs field theory seems very similiar to the "universal esther" theory... i don't know about all the hype..

  • My aunt esther agrees with this

  • I don't think that there is empty space. The time for which particles exists is just smaller than the planck-interval :)

  • The Hadron Collider will allow Aliean's to enter in as a port hole from a parell universe !!! God help us all!!

  • clipper1194: LOL

  • but don't worry. I'm sure some theoretical physicist, clad in a state of the art hazard suit, will pick up a crowbar and beat those aliens back to zen... er or where ever they might have come from.

Oh yeah, he'd likely have some thick-rimmed glasses.

  • Mystery of Empty Space 1

Logically, there can be no such thing as nothing... Multidimensional space is not nothing. When we try to imagine nothing, all we are capable of imagining is "empty space" because, in fact, we cannot imagine nothing.

  • man, HL2 pissed me off the way it ended

  • Mr. Mackie, mkay?

  • why do most lecturers have beards? i think theres a conspiracy here...:) and why is it called a Higg....why not a scott or a trevor :)

  • a well-kept mustache shows great intelligence, but an unkempt beard shows too much enthusiasm, and a lot of WOW or D&D, but a beard maybe shows genius particles on the smallest possible scale, if you got a long beard you're old and very wise, small beard your mature, unkept beard you are drunk, medium is saved for scientists and engineers, and 24/7 wow players. lol

  • lol is just me or when he is talking about breaking up the ice cube the first molecules showed are HO2 not H2O...

  • he looks like a smarter older, and slightly nerdier verison of tom cruise

  • oh my god yeah lol

  • Good videos even if there bit old

  • Thanks , but we are in 2008 already, a lecture from 2001 is abit outdated, if you ask me.

  • Its a good thing we didn't.

  • Thanx Steve!

  • Yeah, those are not water molecules, they are monohydrogen dioxide radicals or something. Sort of a terrible mistake to make, but otherwise a good video.

  • Dioxygen Hydride, maybe.

  • Duh, its hydrogen dioxide cuch

    jk lol

  • Duh, its hydrogen dioxide cuch

    jk lol

  • How about Oxygen Hydroxide then???

  • Look at the water molecules about 2 and a half minutes in. One H, two O's? It's a pretty slide and all, but sheesh doesn't this guy have an editor?

  • steve, you are a fucking science warrior. thanks for all the incredible videos!!

  • Good.

Over xmas I read "Nothingness" by Hanning Genz. Good read.

Seemingly invisible scaler fields here we come!
