I lived in VA for 3.5yrs, NY for 25.5. VA never had to charge 12+bucks to drive across the state, didnt have outhouses for thruway reststops, didn't harp about their budget for yrs and yrs, etc. Suburban Richmond and Buffalo homes differ between annual taxes by almost 4 grand. The services in NY have been declining for yrs while the taxes/fees keep edging higher. When will it stop? We are getting screwed. And, if I work hard and make extra cash at work, it should be mine. thats capitalism

There are two basic things you need to understand about this system and economics in general:

1 In this system we have debt money. Credit created without debt does not exist. So either you keep the debt-thing going or the system will not function.

If costs are not cut meaning NY has to sell off more debt, there would be a high risk of credit default and were it to happen then the crisis would go from bad to really bad as the state government would not make pay roll or pay out benefits, for examnple. The government would be forced to shut. In a nutshell it's like defaulting on your mortgage and your credit rating going to nil - no one will lend to you.
