  • Fates Warning is awesome. This song is awesome. Spiral Architect is awesome. This cover is awesome.

I don't know what you're all babbling about.

  • @algiasphere this deserves a thumbs up ;)

  • I grew up listening to this version, and I must say I love how it sounds... It has a lot of soul.

  • The musicianship is profound and I like the fretless bass attributions but growing up with the original in which I bought when it was released back in 84' or 85' I feel the emotion intended has been lost.

  • I like some of SA's work, but this sounds like someone put Fates Warning in a blender. The original spirit of the song was totally frappe'd. I like a couple of segments though.

  • If you dislike this version just listen to the original, fuck....

I like both! Fates and Spiral are both in my top 10 favorite bands, I happen to enjoy this a lot!

  • I thought the whole point of doing a cover song was to add your own sound to a song/artist that influenced you and not play it note for note? Spiral Architect did this perfectly, and this is coming from a HUGE Fates Warning fan.

  • @azal191 Amen!

  • Holy shit. Can some of you guys just not handle a prog'd up version of this song? Listen to this band's album and maybe you'll have a slight understanding of what it is they do. Ignorant pricks.

  • @SapientMetal

The "technical metal" fad will pass in time. Awaken the Guardian was not intended to be filled with wanky bass fills and blast beats, and this cover is a disgrace. All they end up doing is making a classic American power metal track sound like a butchered Watchtower imitation.

  • @oooooooooorly The "technical metal fad"? This album/cover was recorded over 10 years ago. And for everyone's sake, I hope this "technical metal fad" never ends, because I, for one, enjoy hearing how musicians push the envelope and think outside the box. Even bands like Fates Warning know this, which is why they've evolved from a straightforward heavy metal band to a progressive band. Can't please every everyone I guess.

  • @SapientMetal

There's no "pushing the envelope" in this cover, there's simply desecration of a classic track.

Fates Warning's more recent albums are also quite a bit *less* technical than their 80s material.

  • @oooooooooorly That's pretty subjective. I also flat out find it laughable how overly dramatic people are being with this cover. BUTCHERED, DESECRATED this classic track? Don't get me wrong, I love Fates Warning, but I also appreciate how Spiral Architect covered this song. This isn't a re-recording of a classic for the sake of covering it. It's a different spin on a song they clearly love. If this was sloppy and out of tune, then yeah, I'd understand.

  • @SapientMetal

It's butchery because they completely lost the original spirit of the song.

  • @SapientMetal This is one of the main reasons i got into metal and technical metal, hearing the immense amount of skill going into this music is simply amazing and seeing people do it live is something other worldly. long live technical metal. long live music that requires stupid amounts of skill to learn

  • @SapientMetal...I just wish the could've kept the production value they put into this song into the rest of A Sceptic's Universe. Also, the drum fill @ :58 alone is better than the Fates Warning rendition of this song.

  • The one, spiral architect cover

  • Wow, did they rape this classic tune or what?

  • Better than the original

  • Amazing song! I dont care about those stupid Fates Warning purists... go back to the 80's or something :P This is true technical metal and pretty damn amazing like the rest of the album which is phenomenal!

  • @brainphreak You sound as stupid as the "Fates Warning purists"

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow - Wow you call me stupid because I said this is a great band and song... For fun Ill stoop down to your level and call you a doodoo head back.

    Feel good? :)

BTW I thought this is funny that you should be talking shit on a spiral architect video with your channel showing the last update as:

ThazuaBlackarrow liked a video (3 hours ago)

a tribe called quest - Award Tour

    and

ThazuaBlackarrow favorited a video (2 days ago)

    Bashful Alley - Running Blind

    haha. Funny stuff

  • @brainphreak I called you stupid because you are telling people who like Fates Warning to go back to the 80's LOL. Fucking moron; I LIKE this band. But I'm not gonna stop pointing out morons just because they like a band I do.

Do you have a problem with my activities? Do tell, I'm intrigued what's wrong with it.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow - The problem is you didnt read my post well, and misqouted. There is a clear difference between liking the band fates warning, and being a fate warning purist who can't stand another band covering their material. I was replying to the others who had written "This is truly pure blasphemy. A great Epic Fail. Spiral Architect??? Please do that never again. " and "O my lord, this song is a metal hymn and this is pure blasphemy. "

As if fates warning cannot be covered by anyone

  • I like Spiral Architect. And i like Fates Warning. And Prelude To Ruin is one of the greatest Progsongs ever written.

This is truly pure blasphemy. A great Epic Fail. Spiral Architect??? Please do that never again.

  • gera mexico saludos spiral...

  • O my lord, this song is a metal hymn and this is pure blasphemy. The drumming is severely retarded and I think he's throwing off the singer and the guitars or they are just as equally mentally handicapped. This song means so much to me that I should be really angry but this is so riduculous you can't help but laugh! But, the intro was really good weirdly enough tho.

  • Wow, what a butchery of a great song. The singer kind of got the vocals right. Other than that this is one of the most inept bands I have ever heard. Is that a real drummer or a drunken monkey buttf*ucking a lampshade. Sorry, but this band bites ass.

  • @David1173 ROFL DUDE THAT IS THE FUNNIEST SHIT I'VE READ IN AGES LOL

  • @David1173 I've seen some shithead, brainless comments, but this one takes the cake.

  • @David1173 I second what that other guy said. What an unintelligent remark to make. The comparison you made was childish and lacked any sort of validity.

  • @DrVelvetProductions I stand by my evaluation. As a huge Fate's fan, I can't stand to listen to bands who do shitty covers of songs I really like. This band has a few good songs, this simply isn't one of them.

  • @David1173 Is it shitty simply because it's different? It's an insanely technical band covering a moderately technical 80s metal song. SA did a good job adding their own flare to this classic; I simply can't see why someone can't appreciate this cover.

  • @DrVelvetProductions

It's shitty because it's gimmicky and soulless and *completely* misses the point of the original song. I understand full well what they were trying to do, but it's a stupid premise to begin with and wouldn't work even if it were the most talented band in the world executing it.

If I want technical metal I'll go listen to MCM or watchtower or some band with at least a shred of musicality to accompany their technical prowess.

  • what a beginning..the rest is weak...not even close

  • FUG!!!

  • Damn, I listened to this album the year that was released, but unfortunately never got the japanese edition. I love the "Awaken the Guardian"album of Fates Warning and this is a great cover!

  • Just sending "thanks" to the guy who gave me a bit of Metal Info about this song, the band, etc. The email got deleted some how...but if you are out there...thank you!

  • Do you think it would be okay to ask for the recording of this without the vocals in this song? I'd like to hear the tracks before the vocals were laid down. I wish bands would do that, release the songs with and without vocals. God, I've been saying this forever....why has no one done that yet?

  • Well prelude is Fates Warning cover - with amazing vocals; i still can't believe how awesome this version is - original is amazing as well.

  • I know exactly what you mean!! I really like the music from a lot of bands, but cant stand that vocals. this bands vocals drive me nuts.

  • I've wanted the same thing for ages. Vocals ruin so many bands for me, everything else can be perfect but if i don't like the vocals i just can't listen to it.

  • Black Clouds and Silver Linings - Dream Theater.

  • the new Mastodon record Crack the Skye has a deluxe edition that comes with two cds, one with and one with out vocals

  • One of the best covers, excellent.

  • Great song!
