I have to admit i love BOC...but this is a kinda bad song. It has a good a good tune and beat, but the lyrics and kind of retarded. Its nothing like the rest of their songs.
arnoldkevin1; all that non with standing, we are a bunch of jokes becuse we like the music ????? please you moron! OF COURSE THEY DID IT FOR THE MONEY BUT ITS STILL GOOD!!! God help me I could care less about there motivation as long as the music is good!! ...ok stepping off the soap box
lol at u jokes i know the band and it was never about anything more than something so simple ........money they dont even own their own name ..its why they still have to tour to this day, bad record deals by don kirshner
the interesting thing about this early BOC is how well it has stood the test of time ! how many metal groups out there owe riffs to these guys? and not even know it well......at least WE DO..More Blue Oyster Culture if you please....enjoy
One of my fave BOC tunes.. among many!! One of my all time fave bands from way back, underrated would be an understatement. Intelligent story telling and thought provoking lyrics combined with awesome musicality. Sadly, the majority has only heard three of their songs that play in rotation on the radios. Seeing them this weekend again...can't wait!!
the day i discovered this song i was sitting on the floor listening and i noticed the dead dogs on the back and wondered what that was all about.minutes later my daughter burst in my door to tell me a neighbor had kicked my dog and abused him badly....i confronted him and set things right.but i can't help but wonder if there's a crazy connection.
@kissthesettingsun Buy the remastered issues of the first three records to begin with . They are really worth the money as they sound wayyyyy better [if thats possible]. and theres extra tracks and cool stuff. Long live The B.O.C.
I ,like how it sounds like he's singing 'I'm making it clear of people' when he sings 'I'm making a career of evil'. Genocidal misanthropy by the elitists
@Drizzlerman You can imagine death sweeping over the land with this as the soundtrack. Much like the ME 262 pictured on the cover piloted by Grim himself flying around dusting off any living creature on the ground unlucky enough to be caught in his sights.
I got hooked into BOC b/c I stole my older brother's 'On Your Feet or On Your Knees' live two disc record. He'd be out banging is girlfriend and me (I was a kid) would be rocking to BOC! lol
I like the stealthy sound of the music and the mischievous lyrics and how they relate to the runners of the global conspiracy and how they see their career of evil as a petty game
well doom good analization but remeber how many things were being bounced across the atlantic at this time and put down that thing that black sabatth was the only heavy meatal of the late 60ts or early 70ts ....think about paralell development darhma is as least as good as Ioami, and BOC were much more molodic than sabath
Blue Oyster Cult would have never gotten anywhere if Columbia Records wasn't looking for a Black Sabbath of there own to compete with Warner Bros... That being said however, BOC's sound is very versitile, and although some songs do sound sabbathesque (Cities on Flame with Rock n Roll borrows the main riff from Sabbath's The Wizard pretty much), they have alot more to offer, and that is why they are one of the best bands in my opinion.
DOOMMS - BOC and Black Sabbath have zero musical affinity - sound nothing alike or even close. Columbia signed them as a result of psych demos done for Elektra, not because they were looking for another Black Sab....Just sayin'...
Your kidding right? Listen to songs such as Cities on Flame (obviously The Wizard) and Godzilla. Sandy Pearlman wanted them to be a american response to Black Sabbath,.
DoomMetal -" Sandy Pearlman wanted them to be a american response to Black Sabbath,." - I agree with that and know that that is a direct quote but your previous quotes I felt were inaccurate and assume that YOU must be kidding.BOC is no doom riff sludge group like sabbath - much more cryptic, psych, punkish - any slight similarities are purely conjectural.
Doom - say what you want - they were not intended to be the american Sabbath even though that may have been Pearlman's vision. And your view that they sound alike is misguided at best. That's the point. That's like saying Cream and the Experience sound the same and that everyone wanted Hendrix to be the american Cream. Empty argument.
Doom - I can agree with that (though both songs are atypical of BOC) - we're squabbling over details about types of music that overall we both love. Hope you enjoyed some of the odd rare hard rock things sent.
I suppose my perception of this comes from the fact that I was buying Sabbath records by 1970 and when BOC came out in 1972, they were completely different to my ears. (I remember reading your Pearlman quote back then, though.) Now the US band BANG - THEY sounded like an american Sabbath to me and my friends.
@DoomMetalSludge - not exactly true - Elektra had already signed them in 1969 as the Stalk-Forrest group/Soft White Underbelly and although the album remained unreleased until recently, they did release the 45 " Arthur Comics." they were also considered as a backup band for both Patti Smith and Jackson Browne.
my dads, cousins dad broke all of his old BOC records b/c the were seen as the "devils music" I find that both hilarious and sad at the same time. It would be great to still have those records!
The ME-262 was actually a flop. It came late in the war, was too fast to engage in a dogfight, and Hitler wanted to use them as bombers which didn't make any sense. It was ahead of its time though.
I think the top speed was somewhere over 500mph. They were not capable of breaking the sound barrier (768mph). I don't think there's many of them left although I did see once at the Dayton air museum.
I think the top speed of the fighter version of the ME 262 was 540mph. This compared with the top speed of the fastest Allied fighter of the era, the P-51D Mustang, which could reach around 440 mph.
My daughter is with me right now and she's 10! She just loves Career Of Evil... We're in 2009 and I've played this record since it first came out. Just great to see great music reach the ears of the young ones. Good music never dies...
Yes,the jet is an ME-262,which is exactly what the song ME262 is about! Seen BOC about 20 times most recently 3 yrs ago,and it was my 14(at the time) sons first concert.....he likes them now also.
I remember when I was about 9 years old my dad would drive me to my soccer games every Sunday. The trip took about 30 minutes or so and we would listen to Secret Treaties the whole way. Incredibly nostalgic. Great Album.
Its a Messerschmidt 262 I think, the first ever jet fighter. But that doesn't matter, this is a fucking awesome album. Bands today really dont compare.
I remember first getting this on vinyl and I played the **** out of it!!!! BOC was one of the few groups of which I loved every song -- I just wanted to sit through each one, get my "me" out of the way and just let my brain/mind explore each, figuring out, and appreciating how and why they did it, and who and what they did it with! I WILL NOT... APOLOGIZE!
An unsettling, stomach twisting, dubious, lump in the throat, schizophrenic journey of a song. The Nursery Rhyme nature of the casually played organ melody underscores, obscures, yet intensifies the implied dread of the duplicitous lyrics. Eric Bloom's first person perspective vocals give us a disturbing tale of kidnapping/revenge/sadism from a sociopathic, self satisfying point of view, that is probably closer to the authentic criminally disturbed mindset. Patti Smith's greatest BOC contribution.
@genericity hey hes just putting it in an eloquent manor that describes the mind set of the song which in my mind is a perfect description of it. long live The red and the black!!!

I was 15 -- they took me heart and soul. I sent off for their lyrics. I scared girls with my memorization of said same....
ME262 just blew me away........and still does.
I will never forget the first time I saw them -- Buck Dharma in a blinding white suit playing a white, triple pickup, whammy equiped Gibson SG.....
Wow. You can't hide quality and the fact that all these years later, it still holds up better than 90% of their peers at that time.
Thanks so much for this!
