I wish people in the radical Muslim world would hear this and other masterworks of Western culture. Who knows what hearts and minds might loosen their preconceptions.
I think that was the only recording that was done of him as far as I know.Richter's Interpretation is everything that is expected and very normal.I haven't found anyone yet that can make the 2nd movement "interesting".As far as I can tell there is no contrast to be found in these interpretations except for the sempre lagato section.
Thank You True Crypt for Posting this! There aren't too many posts of this sonata. The Horowitz recording is a decade too late. His interpretation was very spiritual but unfortunately his technique was on it's way down.
great master played by a great master, richter understood the music inside out, and was always able to make the listener understand the music as an entire- one spellbounding phrase from beginning to end.
The first movement's lyricism is reminiscent of Schubert, so Richter is in his element! It is the most transcendently beautiful first movement I have ever heard.
4:30 is a boogie woogie!!!!! i dont know why they say that he wrote a boogie woogie only on the 32th sonata...

How glorious. At age 71, at the full peak of his powers! There is no one to match him.
