Hi, I have a 8 year old blue and gold macaw which I have had for 6 years. Up till now I was able to do anything with him. For the past week he has been acting like I am a stranger trying to bite me and he does not want to leave his cage. He eats and drinks normal but has stopped talking. Can this aggression come from him becoming sexually mature and wanting a mate and do you think this behavior will pass?
@ATouchOfMagic88 You are correct. I took him to the vet and he is a healthy 8 year old who was nesting and feeding one of his toys. I removed the toy and within a day he was back to normal. Thank you for responding. Peace
@MrFrank440 i'm so glad you found out the reason behind the behavior, most often we cannot. some doys including mirrors are for the very reason not allowed in my bird's cage.
@wiwolfdagreat1 yes, ringneck parrots can talk, they are actually very good at talking when learn how to talk. However, there is no guarantee that any
use clicker training.. if they can talk then you'll be able to get them to talk on command. It's what professionals use to train all kinds of animals- not just birds but things like dolphins. You can buy a clicker for under $2 at any petstore
@TheCarvingman - They can pair up and mate, but they can never have offspring, since they are so far apart. (The Pionus is from the tribus Arini in South America, the ringneck is from the tribus Psittaculini in Africa and Asia.) If they like each other, let them do it. Most pet parrots today are socially and sexually frustrated from being "married" to humans instead of other birds anyway.
i'm telling u that i love birds and thanks for that atvice about how poeple take care of a birds and of i get a parrot i'll name it chirssa is that a good name for a bird
I love parrots, but parrots are not to keep as pets, they are to be free and fly. Many of this parrots in this video are endanger species and they may become extinct in the next 20 years....
Right, I'm curious where you got those information from because African Greys are near to threatened. They capture birds to breed and that is only about 4 pairs. Only about 8 birds will go to the farm and breed. Blue throated Macaws are easy to breed so they are not considered 'endangered'. They are endangered in the WILD but not around the wrold. Dbl Yellow headed is not an illegal. Quaker, Pionus and Caique are the only birds that is an ileegal in some countries.
@fairfresh Check the IUCN's website, they have a page for each parrot species you can see in this video.
Conservation status aren't for captive breeding stocks, aside perhaps for ''extinct in the wild''. The blue-throated macaw IS critically endangered. The whole point of conservation efforts is to make sure there is a viable population in the wild.
It is illegal to trap and export WILD yellow-headed amazons, not because they are pests, but because they are endangered. Bonne journée.
i have four really intelligent cockateils...i try my best to give them all the time and attention they need...but i sometimes have to leave them alone in the house for around three-four hours...my concern is,would being left alone like that make them feel neglected or any thing?please do reply
@123animalcrazy My 11 month old indian ringneck has a ton of phrases he has learned within maybe the last month. He is still not exceptionally clear, but every day he gets better and better. They can be quite loud when they have not learned to talk, but thankfully in place of the screeches, Pohi now babbles his new words =) They are amazing pets if you are ready for them.
@midaasjamidamida If you get the chance to learn them because two of the same kind of parrots = they choose for each other and so the attention will not go to you but to each other. But if you do spend a lot of time with them and they are a type that can talk, then they probably will talk

your birds are adorable but I don't think a parrot could understand you when you say DON'T INTURRUPT ME SAMMY!!! Unless they were proppally trained to.
what kind is the on sitting on the cage ... its green on teh right side of the vid in front of the african grey. what kind is tht bird?? and how much do they cost?
This ladie or her husband must of spent a fortune on those birds! I know Macaws are expensive. That yellow headed Amazonian is beautiful. I wonder which bird was making that womanly yelling noise in the backround?
oh my gosh! their beautiful! have you only had experience with big parrot or had you owned smaller birds as well? cause i was wondering for someone that has owned others if i should get a lovebird, cockateil, or parakeet?
what bird would you recommend for a cage thats 20x20x25" ?
From the size of the perch thats attactched to it, it looks like maybe a small Amazon (yellow naped/white fronted) would do well, But im hesitating because it seems a bit small for that, so would a Conure be better?
I know many Indian family and friends that have parrot and they speak their home language....
Itz kinda confusing for them to learn 2 languages at same time; however, they like to observe and they listen to you everyday and that's what they pick up and start talking
That's what I thought, but I googled it. The two just have very similar colouring. It's also possible, I imagine, that the species has more than one common name.
hi i love your birds they are so beautifull and you are the only one thatknows what they need because you havehad them for so long i hope to see more videos of yous babies!
Additionally, the only reason a birds respiratory system would even present him with the human equivalent of a sniffle is entirely bacterial, and cannot in any way be brought in by dust motes and/or dander and is a death sentence. While you assume as easily and with the intellectual equivalence of a child, you do not know me. Do not presume anything about me, asshole.
That doesn't change the fact that they are breathing in an excessive amount of it. In the wild it's not an issue, but here they are in an enclosed space where it accumulates instead of blowing away.
Birds aren't that sensitive. they can breathe in dander and still be fine...humans do the same thing, after all. Additionally, the air is probably not stagnant all the time. It's not like the bird is made of glass. He's not going to die, or even get sick, from a little dander.
Take a close look at the video, particularly the closeup of the grey. There is a lot of crap floating about, so don't tell me it's "a little" dander. And yes, birds are sensitive. Their respiratory systems are far more sensitive then those of humans. My birds, especially my cockatoo, produce a lot of dust. I have a $150 hepa filter that does a great job of cleaning the air, even on its lowest setting. Anyone who can afford to keep so many parrots can also afford to keep the air clean.

@TheJsamayoa Birds are bread in captivity to prevent extinction I highly doubt they will ever become extinct.
DeucesOverTres 7 months ago
@DeucesOverTres Just to clear things out :
African grey : near threatened
Chessnut-fronted macaw : least concern
Blue-headed amazon : least concern
Galah : least concern
Blue-throated macaw : Critically endangered, slowly recovering since well protected.
(Double) yellow-headed amazon : endangered, that one actually because of illegal trade.
That makes two endangered birds, none of which will go extinct in 20 years. Protection in the wild does not mean to stop having captive-breed pets.
