Deuce will also lock up on point like that. When they stay real still the squirrels come back down after awhile. I had a Springer Spaniel that learned this. He knew where to lay next to a certain tree and he would be able to catch the squirrel. That dog was smart as he knew it only took patience.
it took him only 1 sec to climb up this tree :-)

A squirrel made that same mistake at my house not too long ago, but it was fatal.
