Old man waiting to die alone.. oh wait, wrong movie.. same Soto. I kid, i kid. This is my favorite film of all time. I wanted to live in Feudal Japan so much. Be a warrior of honor..
300 and The Last Samurai the only movies that made me cry....They were incredible....The first wasn't historical but both were about ideas and spirit free spirit
Although humanity reached so many achievement we keep fighting each other....Why does you always hear words like fucking asians fucking Americans Russians whatever
okay so this may be a stupid question but what is that instrument that plays in old japanese songs that sounds very alike to a flute? is it just a flute or another instrument?
Japan forgot who they once were... and they were so honorable. Now... they are just what the rest of the western world is... what a waste, goddamn corruption.
Yeah, but I confess their habit of executing prisoners is a bit hard to condone, to say the least. Not to mention what they used to do, before the arrival of comodore Perry, to foreign sailors unfortunate enough to shipwreck on Japan's shores. Or they habit not to retreat, whereas it would give 'em better chances of winning.
I changed my attitude towards Tom Cruise's acting after seeing him in this movie. Let's face it he did a great job playing in Nathan Algren role. This movie is really touching. Too bad Ken Watanabe didn't win the Oscar he was nominated for(best actor in a supporting role). I believe Americans feared to give him the prize, too bad...
I'm not a scientologist, and i don't support it. But I refuse to hate a person because of the religion they choose. Basically, I hate your way of thinking. It's called bigotry.
"I wanted Japan to be independent, and now we have soldiers, cannons, and western suits... But we must not forget who we are" =D one of the best films ive seen =D
*sigh* If only there were many more persons thinking like you in my country, the sh*t wouldn't have hit the fan and this quarrel about our "National Identity" wouldn't have occured. Alas, nowadays, I feel as if we were forced to adopt a crossbreed "culture". But then, if we all have a crossbreed and diversified culture, what kind of exchange would we be supposed to have with each others ?
@Briselance Yeah, same here. It feels like(I'm American) I'm forced a culture, that I'm not compatible with, down my throat. Then again, it has its pro's. Living in a diverse environment, has taught me a lot about different cultures. It irritates me how some people forget their beautiful cultures. I guess in America, after generations settle in, they begin to lose their past; they adapt to a new one. I'm Mexican to the core, and I am not ashamed of my heritage. I love my people.
It might has pros, but you don't need to change you own culture, you don't have crossbreed it at all to learn about other cultures and respect it.
I'm French, I feel 500 % French, I love my country's culture, but it has never prevented me from appreciating certain aspects of Japanese, Italian, Russian, etc cultures. (I said certain aspects because, in my opinion, apart some few cases, you can't really fully grasp a foreign culture in its integrity.)
@whydoyouask123 it also sounds a lot like his pirates of the caribbean work. lots of his work has other echos of his past works in it... he's awesome, but i dont like that his past works whiddle their way into other works :/
@Crownclown13 I didn't see what happened before this and I'm not the best with geography, but I know Fance is in Europe and I thought Italy was in Europe to. If so you would be classified as being European?
lil of a strech don't you say so he is excellent at the style that he uses but don't forget there isn't just on style of music just like there isn't only classical
it is just hard to hear something as beautiful as this and not have your heart melt and be swept over by emotion these songs hit you in the heart and make you relate to it and you make your own message
So beautiful by: Hans Zimmer who has written songs for the movies: Pirates of the Caribbean (all three movies), Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Prince of Egypt, and Lion King. He is awesome. All these songs from the Last Samurai make me cry...so touching and beautiful Thank you for posting this.
tom cruise is a great actor. he could have only done the action movies like top gun and yet he did so much more with his career. vanilla sky collateral the last samurai jerry maguire minority report eyes wide shut, quality films with rather different characters played in each of themand very well. tom cruise is the biggest star in hollywood and for him to make so many people forget that its TOM CRUISE in his films, i think deserves a lot of credit. i dont see tom in a costume here, i see nathan.

When i hear this song,i feel like my heart is falling...like its ripped apart from me
You know why?Cause i realise how much badness is the world filled with.
How much emptiness lures into peoples minds, destroying them from the inside out.
And that just makes me cry.Cry for all the people who have suffered, cry for all the people destroyed by greed...
