The EU made some of the same mistakes with Serbia, in not understanding Serbian identity. The EU does evolve and move on - and its hoped that the Union remembers what the project is about - PUTTING THE PAST IN THE PAST and that is the mistake that the Union makes with the "new" East Member States!!!!
There should be no obsession with "unity" in the Council.
The reality is that Eastern Member States abuse the Community's institutions for vendettas against Russia for something it did when it was the Soviet Union.
The whole European project is supposed to be about putting the past behind - and the "new" MS don't understand that!
