I saw these guys at their first show... They opened for Derrick Morgan as the rough and tough allstars and they played a bunch of Lee Perry covers and it sounded great. They did a great job backing him as well... Then I have to admit I didn't like em for their earlier years. Pop the trunk was a deal breaker. But they've gotten much better over time. Now I like them as a band and they represent LA so.... Congrats Aggrolites on all your successes!
@mykeyaccident you're a arrogant bastard if you can't agree that his bass is not in tune. Still a great fucking song, just would be near perfect with a tuned bass. edude29 i can't stand when people can't hear a note that is out of tune... i guess i'm thankful i'm not as dumb or deaf as people like them.
@DrumGoddessIwish i'm the retard? you're hte "drum goddess" i wouldnt expect a drummer to know anything about pitch aha and why the hate i said its a bad ass song its just a lot of these live videos the bass sounds out of tune, at least on my laptop speakers
@mykeyaccident im near pitch perfect, you're the moron my friend. his bass is a little off key, it bothers me, because as i mentioned im near pitch perfect, and the context of other notes only proves it. I LOVE THE AGGROLITES his bass is just out of tune i was just making an observation, if you asked the bass player or anyone else in the band they'd probably agree with me.
@evanparker Pretty sure it's a Vox or Hammond M3... It's a chop and if you look in LA's Craigslist music section... the dude that built an organ or two for Roger (from the Aggros), can be easily found. He sells Hammond Organs and posts a lot of ads. Search for Hammond Organ... and you'll see his ads. If you email him, he'll probably email you back with specifics on the organ. Cheers
Best live band i have ever had the good fortune to see-really care about the fans, been watching live shit for the last 20 years plus including bands like madness,nirvana(reading92-bored the shit out fof me!)rancid(early 90's),bad brains, bad manners, specials, business basically ought punk, ska or similar, cant wait to see em again.
Saw them maybe a year or two ago in Charlotte, NC with Dropkick Murphys. I had never heard of them, but after their set, I didn't give a shit about seeing Dropkick! i was completely blown away. These guys are HELLA-AWESOME!!!!!
I'm not really taking it personally. I'm just not waiting for a know-it-all who feels the need to correct me when all I want to do is point out that I enjoy some band's music; which we obviously both do, right?
And when the lead singer clearly shouts 'COme on Ska!' on an album opener; I call it ska too.....simple as that.
Let's agree this band is awesome, regardless what their style is called.
say all chit you want but these guys are fucking awsome it might be you that dont enjoy the fact that is a reggae soulful rocksteady sound but your just full of chit ...
this band flat out sucks, I saw them open for Flogging Molly in Orlando on the 5th, I nearly left the concert before FM came out, I mean this shit is bad.
ill agree with u spindoctor, and im sure abeytube will talk some crap say i know nothing about what im talking about, its all good. abeytube probably thinks ska came from reggae
firstly reggae comes from ska...not the other way round...do ur homework. and the bass players bass is outta tune for that song. love the aggrolites tho.
heard of the the aggrolites through a member of the rough kutz (a british ska/skin band) and i thought id check em out on here.AND WHAT A BAND THEY ARE!!! luckily they are touring the u.k. and i managed to get two tickets off ebay to see them supporting rancid in birmingham on the 11th nov woohoo!!!give it some boys..how refreshing!!!
So do I... You wouldn't be the first who play untuned.Who cares??? It happens sometimes! AGGROLITES remains an incredible band and the bass player plays really nice bass lines!
ska was one of the earliest forms of reggae which originated from jamaica...mod ska came from the jamaican influnce of immagrants in britain. punk/ska/reggae..its all gud music!
Ska came from the fusion of the off-beat in jazz with the us r n'b of the 50's, together with jamaican music of the 50's ie mento and calypso. It slowed down around 1967 with the hot summer to become briefly rocksteady. Skinhead reggae followed up to around '69 / 70 wherupon reggae took over. Dub (remixes) of reggae and rocksteady tracks using DJ 'toasters' like Uroy was the final phase of the reggae revolution of the '70s. The rest is, as they say, history. Sorry, I went on a bit there.
They are not a ska band, but rather taking what is considered "early reggae" or skinhead reggae and putting a faster beat to it. These lads know their Jamaican music. They all have played in bands in LA before this--mostly ska bands, because ska got big in LA for a long while. If i was to categorize them, though, it wud be funk/reggae.
Actually, romasflame, reggae has incorporated blues and soul since the 50's. It's that style that the original mods and skinheads listened too. They were black AND white. Ska also came from this eventually.
it's not punk you idiot, it's called reggae. They are really good, too... probably one of the few that incorporate soul. If anything the worst days for music were when they decided to make death metal, acid jazz, and justin timberlake...yes, they made justin timberlake lol. But seriously, The aggrolites are amazing you should listen to their others stuff before discrediting them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
true but death metal i think takes alot more talent to do. not vocal wise but guitar and drum wise. vocals they just use voice modifiers which keeps me from listening to it but yes i hate justin timberlake too.
Talent? Nah. Skill? To a certain extent. I will admit that it's really hard to play guitar solos/riffs fast, or drum fast while playing it clean, but that doesn't make you good. First off, as romasflame said, this is reggae, and lots of people like it. And if you don't, then don't waste your time searching for it on YouTube and trying to get a rise out of people by saying negative things.
yea they do have a black drummer i no him his name is corey horn he has a sister named summer horn :). my friends are good friends with the aggrolites. They live in Murrieta and are Jehovah's Wittness's like me. They go to the Togalog congergation. Its pretty cool :) nice ppl
my buddy's know em too. korey is a pretty cool dude, i hung out with him for a bit after the show here in AZ. i love how they play old school reggae for an oncore
Korey was in the original line up. Scott(white drummer) came in for the "The Aggrolites" self title album (red album) and Korey came back. Personally, I prefer Scott's drum style. Scott has more of a "traditional skinhead reggae" 60's style, whereas Korey has a bit more 70s funk influence.
yeah the bass sounds funky, but i think its actually the sound quality of the video, its just not picking up the low ends of the spectrum like our ears would if we saw it live. i dont think its out of tune though. sweet video, it seems old now though, THEYRE COMIN TO CLEVELAND! whoo!
Yeah, Youtube's Codec (like any Codec) gets rid of the highs and lows of both the video and audio while also removing any redundancies in both. But for whatever reason people don't bitch about the video because its expected to be sub-par if its on the web. Says something about their ear if this comes as a surprise.
Saw them last night in San Francisco at the Raggamuffin festival they ROCKED the house!! The music and videos online don't do them justice. they're AWESOME live!! If you haven't seen them and get a chance to go see them. And for the idiot who thinks the bass is out of tune its NOT the bass its your ears....
Ska's normally more fast paced and usually dosen't have the organ as much as Reggae tends to. Just like Reggae dosent have as much horns as Ska does, but the basic idea is the same.
it's a reggae band, douche bag, not ska. don't you notice the organs? They're trying to do the old sounds from the mid-60s. what a noob! I bet you think "skankin' pickle" invented ska.
I love to listen to 1960s ska, I've never even heard of Skankin' Pickle. I believe Prince Buster invented ska, although it's debated. I just can't hear a significant difference between reggae and ska other than that modern ska is faster and has a punk influence. I'm not a musician myself so maybe there's other stuff in there I just don't notice. But it's good music so who cares what the genre is right?
indeed bass is fat and groovy but out of tune as hell. great song anyway. love the aggrolites

Its purely a Ska track, judging by the off beat, timing and tone of the full song. Rocksteady has a much slower almost mellow edge to it.
The only reason of not thinking it was ska, would be if you associate ska, purely with 2 tone etc....
None the less a fantastic track, worthy of a thumbs up. Sounds 40 years old, not 2 or 3!
SLEEPYTOESLALA 2 years ago
its not ska. its early reggae/skinhead reggae. not that it really matters...

If you haven't seen them and get a chance to go see them. And for the idiot who thinks the bass is out of tune its NOT the bass its your ears....

See them live-preferably in a small club. One of the best live acts around. Mad energy!

They need a singer.

It's awesome, I like it when a ska band decides it doesn't need horns. I like horns and all, but people act like you can't have ska without them.
Ashloomis 4 years ago
Its more reggae then ska, but I see the point you're making.

To me Reggae and ska are two words for the same thing. I can't hear any significant differences between them.
Ashloomis 4 years ago
Ska's normally more fast paced and usually dosen't have the organ as much as Reggae tends to. Just like Reggae dosent have as much horns as Ska does, but the basic idea is the same.
AnarchyintheUK1 4 years ago
that's simply because you're a douche bag!
emat737 4 years ago
it's a reggae band, douche bag, not ska. don't you notice the organs? They're trying to do the old sounds from the mid-60s. what a noob! I bet you think "skankin' pickle" invented ska.
emat737 4 years ago
I love to listen to 1960s ska, I've never even heard of Skankin' Pickle. I believe Prince Buster invented ska, although it's debated. I just can't hear a significant difference between reggae and ska other than that modern ska is faster and has a punk influence. I'm not a musician myself so maybe there's other stuff in there I just don't notice. But it's good music so who cares what the genre is right?
Ashloomis 4 years ago
if it's good music, it's fine by me. obviously all of us here like a good ska and reggae beat. i don't get why people gotta be all up-tight?

Check out my channel's v-logs. I go through the differences in detail. thanks
