your c.a.i. is kinda useless in that spot!!! its sucking in all the engine heat, why do you think its called a cold air intake? its meant for cool air, not that hot ass air, pretty much useless, but still clean looking car
You guys are retarded, its not compressor surge at all. You can hear that from the factory bov. Just take off the airbox on a factory srt 4 and you will hear that flutter.
That is not compressor surge. If you had a stock surge valve on this car you would still hear the flutter. I'll bet if you put any other bov on it wouldn't do it anymore. TXS, Turbosmart, mopar, forge etc.
alot of people replace their stock bv(bypass valve) with Bov's. thing is, the stock bv reticulates the pressure to the non side of the turbo tremendously reducing compressor surge.
@stupidplants are you fucking stupid? Your lack of knowledge dumbfounds us all. I actually have a turbo setup, and you obviosuly have never had one. At least do your research before posting comments jack ass.
okay dumbfuck, i will now destroy you since you think you know so god damn much you little retarded ass fuck.
Neither is better than the other. They are just personal preference on if you would like the BOV to be louder or not. HOWEVER, if you vent atmosphere then you must be running a GM MAFT. The reason for this is because the ECU is expecting that vented air to be recirculated back into the intake. If it is not present then you will be running too rich.
@stupidplants SRT's dont use MAF. Dodge uses MAP. In fact, most MAFS arnt effected by adding BOV. For example. The Volvo engines run just fine with a aftermarket bov and blocking or removing the factory recirculating one. I know because my buddy has has 3 turbocharged Volvos. And yes it does make a difference. Obviously venting the air before the turbo can prevent compressor surge rather than venting it into the atmosphere.
@stupidplants not true. cars that are maf tuned"use a solenoid" are meant to have a bov recirced. not a huge deal to vta but u get massive fuel dumps inbetween shifts that bogs the car and jerks like a mofo between shifts. not really a big deal but.
im aware of this, High Performance Automotive Major at UNOH.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between recirculating and venting to atmosphere is a Swoosh sound when you vent to atmosphere, and not so much when you recirculate. the power difference is Nil, the only reason anyone would suggest it is so you dont have to tune your ECU so your fuel curve doesnt turn super rich after shifts. if your car came venting to atmosphere, then there is no difference. learn what the fuck your talkin about before you post something so you dont make yourself look like such a fucking fool when you decide to run your mouth... err.... keys.
yep, this is the same 2.4L engine from a pt cruise, with a Mitsubishi TD04LR-16Gk turbocharger, idk if is from mitsubihi motors though...i dont know why they maked this as a poor comment...
you know the waste gate is on the hot side right? boost is made on the cold side. what you're hearing is boost then bov then the bov shuts when theres still compressed air and what you hear is the fluttering/surge of the COMPRESSOR not the TURBINE
actually if you look on any srt 4 forum you would see this is the anti surge valve you're hearing and comparing to compressor surge, you can hear that flutter factory if you remove the top of the air box and drive open element.
Si escuchas la turbina suena como que esta retrocendiendo un poco, y eso daña la turbina, la hace cantos. Escucha el segundo #35 y #40. Ahi notaras el turbo retrocediendo.
make your bov face the ground on a 45 degree angle towards the rear of the car. bov's on srt-4's can shoot some oil out of them. also, disconect your valve cover breather. just get a tubing to connect the nipple looking part if the intake itself to that instead. everything else looks sweet, best of luck.
its ussually a good idea to flip the bov to point down. doing that prevents water from splashing into the engine compartment and getting into the up pipe to the intake..... also with it pointed down some people will say its the same loudness. others say its a little louder.... i oersonally can't tell a diff but did point miune down.
its a breather for the motor usualy directs oil vapor to the air. without it it would be directed into the intake system. best to get a catch can so the inside of the intake and intercooler pipes dont get oil inside.
my catch can is in the mail on its way actually.. but most catch cans are from the pcv valve isnt it not there out of the cam cover nipple i am lost now.. where do i hook up my catch can from pcv or valve cover nipple
that hose usually connects from the manifold to the intake and throws warm air into the intake for emission reasons, people dont hook it up when htey get a cai and put a nipple or filter on the intake inlet and same on the outlet where the hose is on the intake manifold...
eeeee, suena lindo, perooo tienes q chekiarte los vacuums especilamente de los q van a la arana, se escucha el retrosezo del turbo , y eso no es muy bueno, intenta hacer un boost leak test

the bpv cannot hold high pressure boost... so by change to bov, it will hold the high pressure boost.... bpv will leak at 1.3 or 1.5.... peace... =)
alisadamia 2 years ago
Iwas using the bpv as an example. You can get a fitting for the hks bov so you can recirculate the charged air.

@Thomas0zer
the mass air flow sensor wasnt the point.
theres no difference between venting to atmosphere or recirculating, because the whole point of any BOV is to prevent compressor surge or chop.
and the volvos may have had a BOV stock rather than the plastic bypasses that are on most japanese ricer class turbo cars.

uve deff got a point the boost has to go thru to the turbo to get to the wastegate...
kristoffpistoff8 2 years ago
what?! you've got it twisted the exhaust gas has to go through the wastegate to the turbine which spins it and in turn spins the compressor
drzflyest4 2 years ago
and you should point your bov down..... if a rock were to flip up it could wedge it open.... then no boost.
Cbias1717 3 years ago
