This song is great. I first saw this video on Nickelodeon, before the channel became a total children's channel, and fell in love with that hard bass beat!!! Totally underrated band and song.
I heard this song this morning on my commute 5:45 am in snow and freezing cold. Almost drove off the road for paying attention to the song. The local alt music station will play some good "oldies" sometimes. Had to hear it again. Was shocked by how intense this song is; a real standout with the bass banging along and the voice! Same reaction now. Never hear this song before; heard Saved by Zero. Released the year before I am born!
The BEST version. The profound lyrics are more timely than ever. This could be the signature tune for 2012. Keep hope alive and your eyes on the skies. A Hopeful New Year 2012 to planet earth.
@5litreho The Fixx had a later version of this famous tune. It was nice but I didn't like it as good as this original version from 1982. The later version was from 1987 or 1985.
i saw them in 83 with moodyblues and 2003 with rick springfield...they fukin rock....oh and i get what u say about the 80's ..i feel the same way from 1976 -77 cant bring it back ...but what a memory.

although the fixx weren't a bad band I don't understand why so many ppl wax nostalgic over '80's music, was a horrible no talent decade with so much plastic music, worst decade by far since the r'n'r era started, was more important to be good looking for MTV then it was to actually make good music, I grew up in that decade and save for a few bands like Crue, Maiden, GnR etc the rest was all throw away trash, give me the 50's, 60's, 70's or 90's keep the eighties were it belonged in the trash.

'The Fixx' are totally fucking awesome! they are UNLEASHED! trying to 'capture' their music is like trying to capture 'The Ramones' or a lot of other bands, they're just too powerful, liberating, free, not fake, polished, limited, etc. Today's fuckups would fuckup their music by doing shit to it, no one today understands 'RAW' 'PURE' heart on your sleeve, if you let yourself go, these fuckups today think somethings wrong with you, all this psychiatry bullshit, what a fucked up world it is today
Just saw the Fixx last night. Amazing band. They sounds just as good as ever! And they played a new song too! And yes it was great..sounding just as vital as any of their other tunes! I hope it is marketed right so it doesnt get burried by some Lady gaga/perry trash.
@MrOrionfan I just drew a very nice drawing based on this song from The Fixx and I call it "Red Skies at The Sea". It's a very colourful drawing that I did with crayons and I will post it here on YouTube as soon as I can-U will like my drawing based on this song.
This is the best version I can't find it on iTunes (It's the alternative version. ) and on Amazon there are several but I can't tell one from the other. Can anyone help me out? Thx.
@frsfca I have this on CD and on my computer. I got it in the free napster days. I dunno how I could get it to you without being fined by the RIAA lol.
...what a decieving video clip. Appears to be a second rate "alternate" version with them just singin it on stage.. What it actually is ends up being riveting, rather interesting performances here. The keyboardist is really one of the main highlights. After downloading Red Skies,Saved by zero and One thing leads to another,I listened to them clearly on my ipod for the first time..ever. Pretty interesting sounds and sampling going on via the keyboardist. The lead singing is strange and unique,
Why could'nt they have released this classic version on cd instead of the remixed version i'll never know; this is in a class by itself; killer classic that will stand against the test of time in my book; to bad today's music can't compare but you can't beat the 80's rock; NO WAY NO HOW!!!!!!!!!!!
@snowman8983 they don't release shit anymore, shit they've fucked everything up, all they care about is money, they dont care about the art, the music because most of the idiots today love elevator type 'music' anyways, so they wouldnt know good music if they heard it, they're all programmed, they're assholes, they can't think for themselves, creativity, originality, diversity, - it's all gone, i wonder how much of the world is left, they've managed to fuck everything up...rapture me Jesus!
I have this version on a red vinyl US 12" promo single back in 1982..It's pressed on red wax too! There is also a alternate version of Saved By Zero that was a promo only 12" issue.
I love this tune...as you can see from my name...I'm kinda old! But I tell you what...this is one of the few songs that I can close my eyes...and it almost seems like I could open them and be back in 1982...yeah...I like the Fixx...
It hard to explain to someone born into the mtv days, what it was like back when we had only three or four local channels, then came cable t.v. and mtv my friend in a group of six to ten of us would get together and party and watch mtv even in the beginning they only had handful of video's but got big quick!
If the other Fixx videos are still here in HD, Why isn't this one ? Why hasn't the rest been removed ? Possibly only the VH-1 version was. I may be wrong about Viacom owning it then.
Oh, while Cy might be singing lead, I think the rest of the track is pre-recorded. The second part of the call and response vocal, the part that Jamie West-Oram is miming, has backwards reverb on it, which is impossible to pull off live. I suppose it COULD be triggered samples (which a lot of people use these days), but I don't think that technology existed in 1982.
@amyath Well, I finally found the Shuttered Room version of the song, and to confuse matters further, and I hear differences not only between the vocals on the two versions, but some minor differences between the backing tracks as well. In particular, during the bridge, there's two guitars going during the speed picking bit. So, it's possible the band may have re-recorded the song for this video, and that I know happened at least occasionally on TOTP. Not sure where else that might have happened
saw an odd fixx concert in the 80s, they basically played on a trailer in the middle of a field about 3 in the afternoon. it was cool though. just a different vibe
Amazing BAND At That Time . I Too Witnessed there Debut Performance in New Brunswick New Jersey. Forgot the Name of the Facility. it was off Hwy 1 though. Brilliant Cy N the Rest . TRUE Professional Band. EACH Track I was Impressed to Hear to the TEE. they had a way to make you Hallucinate . and I had only had a few Tokes .Anyway... the FIXX Has Done Wonders to Influence As Well....... Peace Out...
@ 3:08 when they start repeating 'red skies at night' over and over, start counting with the syllables 1,2,3,4,5,6 /1,2,3,4,5,6... You get 3 groups of 6 sets of 6 syllables before the head of the tune returns....a compound 666....I am not a Christian BTW.
This is kick ass jam i could listen to over and over and not get tired of it; the fixx is a far cry better than any of this shit nowadays; the 80's totally rocked out thanks to groups like this; rock on 80's 4ever.
this is my favorite performance clip of this song! i love the ominous melody & lyrics, and the slightly scary voice and visage of cy curnin. also, he's singing this LIVE with live embellishment from the band, too! who does that today?..
@hiekane i know isnt it incredible...........i dont think anything resembles it today, today 'music' sucks so bad, there's little out there and i always think it's a joke when people try to 'rehash' stuff from the past, lol, they suck so bad, it's because they have no new or good material, it's like bono said in the song 'God part 2' 'you glorify the past when the future dries up' and that's exactly whats been going on with these idiots, notice how they've fucked everything up.................
I love this version. Back in the Napster days there was a huge fire in mexico, it turned the skies here red, day and night so I remembered this song and went to Napster and found this version and liked it so much better than the other version such as the one on the greatest hits cd. I still have the pictures of the red skies.
I remember seeing the Fixx in 1983 Day On The Green. When they sang this song everyone was throwing so much trash you couldn't se the stage.....That was one of the best concerts I ever seen....The Police...The Fixx...Thompson Twins...Onigo Boingo...???
Had this song in my head for years, couldn't name the group, knew it was the eighties. Thought it was the band Wang Chung for some reason but when I checked their discography it didn't show up. You Tube is great for solving musical mysteries.
I guess the early eighties were really thirty odd years ago? The Fixx had such a slick sound. Great stuff! I think most that like this might enjoy the Comsat's, if they haven't heard them. "Falling" or "I'm falling" was the big one, I think.....
@ebonerobinson have to agree with you re: FIxx and Comsats. Both are among my favorite groups. "Shuttered Room" is (almost) on par with "Sleep No More", IMHO.
wow...the only version of this i really love..i remember blasting it on my ghettoblaster in 1982 when i was 10...great memories..and MTV used to play the video..this one.quite a bit that year..before the The Fixx really got popular with "Reach The Beach" album ;-)..great post
Why are all the other Fixx videos in HD quality & this and Stand Or Fall aren't ? They also have pulled the VH-1 Classic versions, and I know why that is...COPYRIGHT IDIOTS !
Why is are the other videos of theirs in better quality & this one & Stand or Fall isn't ? They've also pulled the VH-1 Classic versions. The copyright owners are idiots anyway.
Wish this video was on DVD. I guess this vid. is more or less what you call, mediocre, compared to all their others. I kind of figured it wouldn't be.
when my daughter was first born, I would get up for her 2 am feeding...MTV would play this every morning about that time....awesome song...still love it to this day.
@paddywagons104 WLIR would do a lunch hour of new wave. I would tape the songs I liked onto cassette. Hard to clear the station though, when you live in NJ. God I miss that station! I am in Santiago, Chile for a while, and the radio stations here play a better mix than NYC. Go figure.
Can anyone out there help me? I'm looking for a song, I hear at work A FREAKING LOT! Idk the name or the group that sings it, just a few of the words...here is the little bit that I (hope I have it right, then) know, "Time slide place to hide duck reality, all these buildings will be for prophecy, Ah-Hah"....if anyone knows what the hell this is, i'd greatly appreciate a tip on it....the damned things stuck in my head!

Sorry, "Comsat Angels"
ebonerobinson 10 months ago
I guess the early eighties were really thirty odd years ago? The Fixx had such a slick sound. Great stuff! I think most that like this might enjoy the Comsat's, if they haven't heard them. "Falling" or "I'm falling" was the big one, I think.....
ebonerobinson 10 months ago
@ebonerobinson have to agree with you re: FIxx and Comsats. Both are among my favorite groups. "Shuttered Room" is (almost) on par with "Sleep No More", IMHO.

I great and unique band. Really, my fave stuff from the 80s. Haven't heard much of their stuff outside of this decade though.

I love to substitute "Chemtrails at night" in place of "Red Skies at night". Someone should do a remix. LOL. Try it out for yourself.
trademarc66 10 months ago 2
@trademarc66 isn't it kinda dark to see chemtrails? lol. I get it though, freakily enough it makes sense with the whole song.

Why are all the other Fixx videos in HD quality & this and Stand Or Fall aren't ? They also have pulled the VH-1 Classic versions, and I know why that is...COPYRIGHT IDIOTS !
amyath 10 months ago
Why is are the other videos of theirs in better quality & this one & Stand or Fall isn't ? They've also pulled the VH-1 Classic versions. The copyright owners are idiots anyway.

paddywagons104 1 year ago 8

@jmrudd1980 the song you are looking for is E=MC2 by Big Audio Dynamite
