I think "Rave On" is the best of Buddy and The Crickets because it features all of them working together at the top of their game. Excellent work by all the musicians and the back-up singing sets off Buddy's lead vocal perfectly. There is not one dead spot or phrase in the whole song. I could listen to this song all day.
@pat1947100 If I recall correctly, there was a female office worker or secretary who played keyboards on "Every Day". I have a CD collection, 'The Buddy Holly Story' and she was mentioned. I don't know if it was her on 'Rave On', too. I'll have to check it out.
@pulversilva101 Ouch. There is no accounting for taste. If you like rock 'n' roll at all i would expect you to like Buddy Holly. He inspired the Beatles. In fact they named their band as a play on the name of Buddy Holly's band the Crickets.
@cunnidvd ur absolutely correct, friend.. I jst finished peat 10/10 of the REAL Buddy Holly Story (produced by [Sir] Paul McCartney himself,) ystrdy. great musical knowledge!!
Dion never was given the choice of going on the plane. If I owe Dion an apology, Buddy Holly's wife and Tommy Allsup also owe him one. They have both called Dion a liar...and that is history.
@thescribe13 I got some great news: I just had a look at the status of the video and it seems like UMG has taken over the copyright claim and now it's available worldwide! :)
@mschiquitita10 That's awesome. I think more copyright owners are starting to realize that having their "property" available on youtube is some of the best advertising available! If you like it enough to listen to it more than a couple of times on youtube, chances are you'll buy yourself a copy anyways. : )
"On February 3, 1959, a small-plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, killed three American rock and roll pioneers: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson,The day was later called "The Day the Music Died"
FYI: I was only 12 years old and on my way to Duxbury middle school in my big brothers 59 Chevy and this news had came over the radio. I was in "shock," as I had use to play my first acoustic guitar to Buddy's and Ritchies songs! RIP Eric D. Erickson
I was glad to hear Rave On!, but I don't think the laudio matches the video. If you mute the lyrics, the video looks more like a slowed down version of "Oh, Boy". Just saw Dion Dimucci perform several times last week on the Blues Cruise, and he told us that he was traveling with Buddy, Ritchie, and The Big Bopper on that tour when those three were killed. Dion opted not to fly, but to drive to the next town. Buddy chartered the plane, and all the others flew and died in the crash..
@alphadesignerone Dion is a liar. It was Tommy Allsup that flipped a coin with Ritchie Valens for the last seat on the plane. When he lost the coin flip, Allsup had given Holly his ID to pick up some mail from the Post Office for waiting for him. When the wreckage was found, it was originally reported that Allsup had also died.
@kikivr22 I think you owe Dion an apology. The previous poster only said that DION was on the Winter Dance Party tour...which he was.Dion refused to go on the plane cos it was $126 to hire - $42 each. I have a BBC radio interview in which Dion says that his mam had just $42 a week to bring up his whole family as kids so thought it too expensive. BH offered the other seat to Big Bopper. The rest is history. Tommy Alsups story also true. The MUSIC DIDN'T DIE - KEEP IT ALIVE. RAVE ON !!
I actually saw Buddy Holly and The Crickets LIVE at the Davis Theatre, Croydon, UK whilst on their one and only tour of the UK. Fantastic! Unbelievable! Brilliant!.
Hello again dear Youtubers and greetings! Rock and Roll! Why do all the great artistes die so young? Buddy, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Jim Hendrix - the list just goes on and on. What a shame. Oh well, we still have their music. Many thanks for posting.
wow... I don't know how I ended up here but as soon as I read Rave On I knew it was this song. I've heard it from M. Does anyone know of any video or film clip in existence of Buddy Holly and the Crickets performing "Rave On" live? If so, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love seeing it.
@PreCodeMovies ...Yes, I remember seeing a film clip of Buddy & the Crickets singing this song at the cinema in either 1958 or 59 during the news feature between films. That means it was either Pathe or Gaumont news. I was 16 at the time so the memory has faded but it may give you a start....good luck with your search...regards.
Gotta love this music. Just cant get any better. To bad music like this isnt on the radio pap stations and get rid of the garbage they now call music.
@jamiesomersuk Jamie, March 3 1958, I saw him in Southampton, UK. Best concert ever; just the three of them, performing the big hits. I yelled out for "Words of Love", but he glanced around and said they didn't have that one down yet.
@jamiesomersuk Can't recall, sorry. But having also seen Haley, Johnny and Hurricanes, Cliff (in his prime), Everlys, and others, can say that Holly was more exciting than all of them.
@jamiesomersuk yes mate Buddy appeared at the Gaumont Cinema, Wolverhampton on 7th March 1958 and also did two performances at Brum Town Hall on 10th March 6.30pm and a later one at 8.30pm. my mother was at the wolves one, lucky woman
Think about it... that's a 22 year old boy! He didn't even have a chance at a full life, but the musical legacy he left is immeasurable. Buddy is one of the first Masters of the Stratocaster! Thank you, Buddy.

Buddy would have become King if he didn't die.
He wrote almost all of his songs.
And he was only 22 when he died.
