the bass tone on this lap is jangly and deep, and comes out of the PA very true. This is hard to accomplish on stage with acoustic instruments. I like the way he's got his vocal mic positioned in such a way that allows the good angle getting over the top of the fretboard. thank you Mr. Polyester. cool runnings.
the lower register on this guitar is really sweet. Mr. Polyester has an infectious pound and swing that is unparalleled and completely his own. this is what is so attractive about his playing and brings real happiness when it is flowing out! And I thank Mr. Dave for cueing me in on the ironing board for lap steel playing- works great.
Actually, Mister Dave started out playing fiddle. He was winning Bluegrass fiddle contests when I was still in diapers and I'm not that young. I go see him whenever he's in town. We have some common experiences and memories of concerts we both worked.
I love 'king of the bed'. I also love hearing Linley"s introductions and open tunings (we don't get enough of it on his live albums) Thanks for posting this.
David maybe another guitarist who started out picking banjo - esp. Scruggs style and graduated to finger-picking styles on the guitar. The transition is fairly easy, who else am I thinking of? oh yeah Linsey Buckingham, how many others - mostly people who went from folk/world to rock in the 50-60's
you can bet a million guitar players are just watching his fingers,me included and not all of us can make it to santa cruz.
this mans contribution to this style is remarkable and yet no one lives forever and you really do learn a lot more hearing and watching a live performer(who dosent need a backing tape that is)
his agents dont tell him when they give permission to record. then he screams and yells about it when it happens. does lindley know you have this video on youtube? If he did he would tear it down. Seriously dude, he is NOT YouTube Happy about people that post without his PERMISSION. he is a jerk believe me. And no i dont play music but I am a firm supporter of live music and I back what I believe in!
You are miss characterizing Mr.Lindley. Me and my friends have all crawled over the fences to get backstage at his events, just to talk to him, and trust...he is the coolest dude out there. He'll even take the time to show you how he does it, on his guitar, if you ask him about something. He's unbelievably nice. He has always made me, and everyone I knew instantly love him.
Just 'cause he doesn't want unapproved shit on You Tube doesn't mean he's automatically a jerk.
I found out about this show after making plans to visit relatives in Missouri. Being so close, yet so far away... Cadillac is only 45 miles....Dang....
thanks to Jimbo/1 Just seen Jackson Browne last tuesday in Amsterdam Holland. Was great! A pitty David wasn't there. Didn't know yhis song very funny thanks again. Ciao!
he has a very good gun collection too...along with vintage polyester shirts and pants!
